This is or was a 2001 Foreman that's been recovered from a barn. She sat covered in bird pooh and barn dust. Probably never seen any preventitive maintenance. It did have some toys, highlifter front disc brake kit, warn front diff unlocker, someones lift kit etc. We stripped it for good look at the drive line. Pretty much every bearing and seal is toast. The proud new owner is in the process of finding parts. The list is 2 pages long. Stay tuned for part 2 to follow as she gets a total over-haul.

Ya, I just did the deal for a good friend that we've been buggin' to get a ride. He's a welder-fitter as well as a machinist. Very talented guy. The beast was riddin' hard and put away wet that's for sure. We're hopeing to get some help from some guys here on your site. I have a 2 page PDF of parts for viewing if anyones interested in helping out. Just waiting to see if Bigdog800efi can help us. Sure hope so.

that would be a fun project.
i got a friend that is sort of in the same boat. he has like a 98 foreman all stick with 26" gators. he went with us on a ride one day which was his first real mud ride. half way through he lost 4x4 and then he drowned it out in a hole. my dad towed him back to the truck. when we got it in his garage we washed it off and found that his front brake lines were broke in half and his front dif was split right in half. we pulled the dipstick for the oil and water cam shooting out. we did one oil change for him. he really knows nothing about quads except how to drive it. so it has been sitting in his garage like this for over two years. i am sure there is going to be alot of parts to fix on that thing.

Here's a place you might want to check out. Parts are half the cost of what they are from the dealers. Its not easy to get it shipped to Canada but possible none the less. Lots of parts fiches and everything too.

Friend of mine as a fixer upper 2001 Foreman for sale, wants $2,000 for it. Probably needs about as much work as that ones does lol!

Hey thanks Mac. I'll pass your info along. I don't feel so bad now because we got that one for $1200 lol. Tires and rims are like new but when we first jacked it up the balls from the wheel bearings fell to the ground LOL.

Here you can see the brainiac job of welding in the swingarm LOL. It's been fixed already and waiting on bearings etc. In the other photo you can see a lift kit that's been rubbing on the shocks for a couple thousand KM's. All 4 corners were like that.

I bet if we jacked up his Foreman more than ball bearings would fall out. He's also a "weld fixes everything" guy. The rear hub came of the axle and they tried to weld it back on. I think this video says it all lol...

My step brother picked up a 98 foreman for $600 and it was in 56,000 peices! Took us three weekends to get it together and running. First ride he sunk it in a mud hole and go muddy water in the engine. Next week we put a bored it out and put in a new piston and rings and runs like a champ with more pep.

It sure is low to the ground though! Looking at making a lift for it.

Well the beast came alive this past weekend. Carb re-build, some fresh gas and a new battery and away she went. Purrs like a kitten LOL. Both front and rear now have a receiver type mounts for the winch etc. Lots of re-construction creating front bumper mounts and rear re-location of support steel to hold it together. Looks sharp though. I'll post up some pics when I see him this week. Most parts have been ordered except the rear brakes.
Does anyone know of a rear disc brake conversion for it?. Apparently HL discontinued it. I'm not a member over there so any help would be appreciated at this point. The owner would prefer to scrap the rear drum because of extensive damage by the previous owner. The front already has the conversion.
On another note: the beast came with a MBRP stainless Muffler{too loud} Looking for a stock muffler, possibly a trade?
Thanks in advance, Rob

check out that for the rear brake kit. it ia a highlifter one. 65 bucks. even if highlifter discontinued it parts canada may still have some in stock from before when they were still making them. all you got to do is go to your dealer and they can order it for you out of that catolougue.

Thanks popo500efi. I'll pass along your info. I was just over at his place on the weekend and he had in his hands a cable operated caliper and rotor set. Being cable operated means he can convert the rear drums to disc easily with a bit of machineing and know how. I'll post pics when he gets to that point LOL. The fronts allready have the HL kit. He's got enough new parts to keep him busy for a few weeks that's for sure.

badmanners or project foreman, I wanted to comment earlier on this, I really like the atv/motorcycle lift you are using in your garage. i have all air lifts in the shop but I really think that lift is neat how it utilizes a regular floor jack. Did someone make it or is it a commercial unit?
Also I coulda sworn it was in this thread but apparently not, someone posted a pic of an old TRX300 all lifted to the sky with independent rear set up. Anybody got a link to that, I can't find it.

CD, He-(Foreman) made it himself, has access to all the right stuff. Used some of perks myself. He's done two other basket case projects(roadbike and beetle/rabbit street leagal dunebuggy) both turned out very well.

Hey CD,the lift was something one of the engineers at my place of employment[i'm a fab.shop supervisor] found on the internet a few years back,it works pretty well, always scares me when i have my Harley on to let down[no control on floor jack descent] but alot easier on the back.P.F

Now has a liquid cooled VW Rabbit motor in it.
Somewhere on there is 2 radiators.

As you can see this guy can build anything with enough time and money.
Just wait and see how the Honda turns out.

so did you guys ever find a rear break conversion kit to get rid of that drum?
PROJECT FOREMAN
03-31-2008, 02:50 PM
No haven't found a conversion kit i'm happy with, sooooooooo,i'm going to fab one up with a few parts from the old drum, a mechanical caliper and alot of engineering[ beers ] to see if i can be somewhat cost effective and have brakes effective.I'll make sure Badmaners keeps track of progress for everybody to see.
badmaners
03-31-2008, 02:54 PM
It's funny you ask that. Yep he's got one. Keep in mind he just made his own rotors for the front because Highlifter never got back to him. Also a couple spares. Very expensive Tool steel. As far as the rear goes, he found a mechanical caliper and rotor set very similar to a go-cart setup. I do believe it has a 1 inch keyed hole in it? He'll probably make or re-use a splined section acting as a filler where the old drum was. Actually when he comes on here the next time he can tell you what his plans are. The benifit in this is it's mechanical so a little machineing to make the existing cables work would be easier than a wet rear. If I get this correct, there is one cable from the right foot and one from a hand lever. Also will be able to retain a parking brake. Like I said, he can answer better than me. I think there are others waiting to see how the rear conversion goes as well. Judgeing by his car and bike he should be ready for the mud soon.

PROJECT FOREMAN
04-08-2008, 12:16 PM
Well i finally got the last of my bearings and seals from my good friend Stevie who happens to work for Honda,on monday.Trying to get them installed this week so i can get this thing [ bare bones ] outside for a good cleaning so i can finish up the drawings/sketches for rear disc before i put the plastic back on.I already know how i'm going to do it , just need more time to draw and machine/fab parts!LOL Wish i could work on it all day long, but REAL work usually gets in the way!hahaha
badmaners
04-14-2008, 12:39 PM
Well, did you get the machineing done? It's gettin' pretty nice out there.
PROJECT FOREMAN
04-14-2008, 02:45 PM
NOOOOOO, i ran into a new problem, bleeder screws have been over-tightened and stripped one completely and other one leaks.SOOOOOOO ,guess i have to weld up holes and re-tap threads.Today i'm glad i have a machine shop at my disposal, but they won't work for me on mondays, hahaha,so i have to wait in line!

05-05-2008, 12:10 PM
Well it's finally alive! Got the wife up early so she could help me with bleeding front brakes, got the rears stripped and painted parts,re-assembled everything, adjusted rears, tightened up all fasteners, put some fuel in her and away she went, naked as a jaybird! Brakes work good, runs good, shifts good, all lights and whistles work, and it goes like a scared rabbit. I will take it out for a short run tonight at the deer pit and then change oil and filter. So really all that remains now is to wire winch[s] and put plastic back on[ although it looks pretty cool naked! ] and should be good for the mud holes!YAHOO!
Apparently you type faster than me!HAHA

PROJECT FOREMAN
05-08-2008, 02:38 PM
You're a funny guy!I took the wheels back off last night to start putting plastic's back on and to check nuts/bolts/etc. when i noticed my repaired caliper bleeder screws were rubbing on the inside of the rims just enough to file the top side/tip in half! To say the least i was lucky not to break both buggers off,my machine shop is making some 1/8" wider spacers to clear [ i have 1/2" now ].The quad runs fine, had it out for about a half hour Monday evening and all is a-okay,stops alright also.I hope to get body back on this weekend so i can get mud ridin'in,i am sooooo itchin to go riding!

Well i'm still not completely done, but i'm gettin' there!I got the spacers done and will work fine.I finished mounting the winch and solenoid bracket[ not many places to mount it,tight fit everywhere ] and ran all the wires.Tonight i hope to get the remaining terminals soldered on and connect the rest of the wires up.With any luck i might be able to get her dirty this coming long weekend.I will have to get Badmaners up for some up-dated photos before i put the wheels back on.

Absolutly perfect...except the fact he was stuck in the first hole. 3 wheel drive and no ground clearance LOL. It started out nice and clean with not a speck of dirt on it. Doesn't look like that any more. We went out for 5-6 hours and it ran great. Just loud as hell with that pipe on it. I could hear him shifting and he was behind me. I think Froogle might have a pic or two and I will post one of the before shots when I remember to bring in the memory card... I think Kelleys quite happy with the end results of the project. I,m sure he'll be on later to defend himself LOL. All in all it was worth riding in the rain on Sunday. Next test will be the 90km poker run this coming Sunday.

Was almost as much fun washing it as ridin'.hahaha.My rear brake set-up is not working as well as i would like it to,so i will have to see if wearing them in will have any effect,so i will keep you posted on that outcome in the near future.Hopefully will not have any trouble on this weekends poker ride, should be fun!

Welllllllllllll, did the 90km [ 50mile ] poker run on sunday out in a small called Markdale,Ontario with the local atv club ,and had an absolute blast! Pretty damn dusty though on some of the gravel roads and old railbeds but quite a mixture of terrain from water, mud, hills, valleys, etc.The Project Honda ran fantastically and gave me no problems at all, very, very happy with my re-built ride[ it is very loud and i will have that fixed by weeks end] except the rear brake is still not working like i want it to,but still has some braking power,i'll keep working on that though.Over all was great to finally get out and put some miles on and not have any major problems. The only problem was with the damn black flies!flying in groups big enough to carry you and your ride away!LOL

Wellllll, this weekend i managed to get the new [to me ] muffler on,wow is it quiet! I love it! No more annoying the neighbors, and i didn't have to jet it cause whoever put the MBRP on didn't either.I also purchased a set of black ITP rims to fit the PXT's and installed them, looks great with the black rims.I'll have to get BadManers to take a pic and load er up with the first re-assemble pics.Went for a short ride with Froogle and BM on sat. afternoon and could here them think,it was that quiet!LOL

How is it holding up Kelley?? Still working out for you??
PROJECT FOREMAN
01-17-2009, 11:44 AM
Yeah man,the old Foreman is holding up great!I have my plow on it for the winter and have one other person i plow for across town [ less than a mile ] and it gets pretty hairy at 40 mph with no weight on the rear wheels. The Foreman sat outside all day yesterday [ about 14 hrs. ] in - 20c weather while i worked on my truck in the heated garage, and it fired right up when i went over to Froogles for a beverage.Other than the rear brakes never worked out like i wanted,i'm really happy with it over all!Gotta like the Honda's.

I guess I could have updated this thread sooner, but things take time!LOL. I recently updated the rear brake system from the mechanical one I designed that filled with mud and wouldn't move, to the Quadrax one offered from Royal Distributing. It went together in no time and the instructions were fantastic and easy to follow with good pictures. The parts all went on without any fitting problems and still got to save my parking brake/hand brake and the foot brake. Going to try them out tomorrow now that I have the pads bedded and my new 27" Bear Claws mounted! Hope it was worth all the work!LOL I'll have to get Badmaners to shoot some pictures tomorrow and post them up for me of how it looks now.

My boy just got a 93' Honda fourtrax 300, that has turned into it's own little project. This thread is inspiring and gives me hope that with some elbow grease and cash......and treats his Honda will be as sweet as the foreman when it's done.
