Right now I have what I think is a gun slinger boot and mount from Wally World and it sucks, it flops around toooo much. I want something really rigid and strong, maybe something with the longer style mount to keep it from rocking around when riding rough terrain. I want to buy it on line, but unless I see it up close in person, I dont know whats good or whats a flimsy cheesy peice of crap.
So what can anyone suggest?
I should add that where possible, I would have another cheap boot (one of my current gun slingers) bungied up against my new one with either a 12 or 20 gauge just in case we come across something small, like rabbits or partrige (roughed grouse sp?) and I'd keep the 30.06 in the good new boot.

kimpex usually sells quite a bit of that stuff.

Sounds like a road trip to Cabelas is in order!
I just use a rigid case from Crappy Tire and strap it to my quad. It keeps my guns clean and dry.

Doesn't Kolpin also have a decent one?

I don't know if the lock and ride system works with the older models but at a local dealer that I go to they had a two gun boot holder that appeared to be a lock and ride. It looked pretty nice. I haven't seen one online but the dealer has one just sitting there. If you want I could take a picture of it tomorrow and post it.

I have found that the gun scabbords allow your guns to rattle around too much inside. This will inevitably lead to scope and site misalignment, resulting in missed game. Here is what we use.

LOL, let me see what you got Gary.... Actually, my boot is pretty tight on the rifle, but the boot sorta flops around too much.
As for "missed" game, well being that I aint seen a single moose during a moose hunting season in around 6 years so far, maybe even 7 years, I dont think the rifle scope is causing the "missed" game :D

Oh ya, let me know when you will be in town or where you live and I can drop off that shock for you, and thank you very much, you will get the prototypes when I get some time to make them.

I was in town today, twice. (what a waste of gas) But yes, I do need it ASAP. Could you hide it on the front porch or something, that way when I'm in "the hood" I could just swing by.

Will do, its in my truck right now, I'll take it out in the morning and set it on the porch for you. I will hopefully be getting some samples back tomorrow from a local powder coater so if its still on my porch, I can also check to see if the powdercoat is to thick to fit the shock into the lift blocks, but if its gone, I can unbolt the bottom half of the wifes rear shock to check it.
Thanks again, I did make a single spring spacer, 1" tall for the shock, but then after looking at it, and remembering what you said about the clip breaking, this design would only make that risk higher so I redesigned it and will get a set made when I have some more time. Then you can have the first set if you like.
I'll pm you my #'s as well okay.
the kolpin ones are pretty decent

Hi Paul . I use the U shaped gun holders from C.T.C. They have rubber straps to hold the gun down but if I'm not on really rough going I set the gun on to of the straps and it stays there pretty good by itself. Also makes for quick access if you get surprised along the trail.

Long time no see buddy, hows it going up in Gods country?
Ya, I see a lot of those kinds but with the terain we moose hunt in, I would bend the barrel on a tree or something.

Here is mine. It is a Koplin 5.0. Just something to think about.

Is it good and solid Jon? Does it flop side to side easily or is it pretty rigid?

They all vibrate. There is no slipping from side to side though. It is very sturdy. I added a black bungy at the front low point to keep it from vibrating and that seems to work great. It does not make noise when it vibrates just hate to look at it when it is going it haha. Thats the price you pay for a small mounting system. another option is the boot that you slide the gun holder into. They work good but only last a couple of years then the plactic boot holder gets brittle due to the exposure to the elements.
