View Full Version : New and improved RUBBERDOWN CUSTOMES Rincon Lift Kit
Rubberdown

This is my latest revised Rincon 650/680 full front and rear lift kit!
I made about 4 of these a year or so ago, but I never got much interest from the Honda guys. I had a slightly different rear set-up than whats pictured here, but as you can see, it is now 1 large solid bracket to lift the rear, one shock on each side. The front is pretty standard stuff with my style of lifts. I also used something called Black Oxcide to treat the steel, it is a chemical process that actually penetrates the surface of the steel and it is used as a rust inhibitor in the machineing trade.
This kit is already sold, but if I get enough interest, I will put it back on my product list for you Honda guys that like to play in the deep slop ;)

Looks good Paul.:)
Will all your steel parts be in Black Oxcide from now on?
How much better is it than paint?
Rubberdown
08-01-2007, 10:13 PM
Not sure buddy, I am going to do a couple pieces and leave them out to weather for a while and see what happenes. The black oxide is a rust inhibitor, and whenever we get tools back for repair, they are never rusty, but they are usually used in some sort of coolant conditions and the coolant is always a water/oil type mix so its hard to say how it will stand up to rain and mud.

You might want to put a couple of scratches on one part so see if the rust will migrate fast once it gets through the finish.

Welcome to the site dude, please let me know everything you can about it once you get it in, like any improvements with the instructions (I still have to make them available on line for you), the design, your likes and dislikes, etc etc. All feed back, good and bad is good to get.

I have a 1" Perfex kit on there now, which isn't too bad. Not really strong or high enough for my liking. I'll compare the two and let you know what I think. From those pics I'm liking it already!

Nope lol, I don't need it. Do the front brackets go on the top or the bottom of the shock?
I got the rear lift on, I had to grind it down a little bit with a grinder for it to fit, and I still had to pound it on with a hammer, at least I know its not going to move around :D Gained about 1 3/4" over the Perfex kit, rear is at 15" of GC now with 26's, it will probably go down slightly when I put the front kit on. I took some pics to compare the two, I'll post them tomorrow.
BTW, Thanks for the key chain

Okay, so in the rear, the hole spacing was okay, or was perfect? Where did you have to dring, the thickness that would fit up intyo the frame pocket for the lift?
mac102004
08-08-2007, 08:49 AM
The hole spacing was good. I had to grind the flat part of the lift so it would slide up into the frame pocket.

Hey Rubberdown. I emailed you about 2 hours ago with a request for a lift kit. I want to get one like in the pics above. Is that the one that Mac102004 got??? If so then hook me up with one man. If he gained that much over the Perfex kit then I want one for sure.

Can you build me one of these lifts? Also I have 3 wheeler with a 4/130 bolt pattern and I would like to make it a 4/110 can you do that with your spacers?
Rubberdown
08-13-2007, 04:50 PM
Sure, the lift kit will be a couple weeks, as will the spacers, I assume you only need 2 spacers right? They would be 1" thick
And Welcome to the forum :)
Rincon1906

That will work, and yeah just 2. What will all that run me with shipping 75570 is my zip. Thanks for the welcome.

08-13-2007, 06:36 PM
The kit is $135 U.S. shipped, and the spacers will run you another $120 for the pair of them for a total of $255 U.S. shipped and insured. I'll need payment for at least the spacers before I start them as they are a lot of work and the blanks are kinda pricey. I will need to know what your wheel stud size it, the diameter and the pitch as well as how far they stick out of the hub so I can get the same size wheel studs for you. Or if you have a preferance with what size stud you want since you seem to know what rims you will be using, that will work too, just let me know what size you want me to press into them, you may already have the lug nuts right, so we can try to match up the studs so you dont need new lug nuts.
Paul.
Rincon1906
08-13-2007, 07:38 PM
It will be some wheels that fit my rincon so you can use all the dimesions off of it, if you have one you can look at. And I have the lug nuts how do i measure them I think there is a number on them though. It will probably be next week for I could get the money for the spacers, as I want to get the lift first how do I send you a payment.

Man I got mine and what a difference. It was all I was hoping for. The lift itself is top notch and the height is just right. Thanks Paul. I did have a little trouble on the rear with the holes lining up but it was just tight and needed a little help. Not sure about the factory specs but the right side was the bad one. The factory bracket was hitting the spacer before the hole would line up. I slipped a drift pin in to line it up and it worked fine. It took a little work to get the shocks in but a little prying and cussing and I got them in.
I had a 2in xtreme lift on that I had to take off and I remember the xtreme kit way harder to install than the rubberdown 3in. The rd lift was about 1.5in taller than the xtreme and the rear seemed a little more. Thanks again Paul for a great product!

mac102004
08-24-2007, 08:35 PM
No problems with the lift, or the lift and springs together, just the springs.
If you remember the recall they did on the rear springs, where the spring was slipping over the retainer. Well mine had this happen, and they also bent. Called up HL the great company that they are and they got me to send pics of them yada yada yada they called back, nope not going to replace them warranty only lasts 3 months. Needless to say I will NEVER buy anything from, or made by that company, nor will I ever recommend any of their products.
Also, when they slipped over the retainers they DESTROYED those plastic sleeves, which can`t be replaced without buying new shocks $300+ each.

I love my RD lift! It is a little more tippy but not too bad. As far as the install I used a prybar and the rubber handle of a hammer to tap the shocks in. I had some fitment issues on the rear but a small drft pin and a little tapping got the 2nd bolt in within minutes. I thought that I was going to have to grind but I made it work.Seemed like the ears were hitting on one side. The rear stance has a little camber on mine but is hardly noticable and dosen't seem to affect the handling any.

littlegrasshopper, the 4 kits I ust made should not interfere with that ear part on the rear now, I moved my cutter about 0.050" more into the shoulder of the part so it should be good from now on. thanks for the info though, much appreciated.

Hey Paul, the only other thing I saw was that if you are taking another lift off and using the RD lift then you got to use the stock front shock bolts which I had a time finding. Anyone that is upgrading their lift with a RubberDown lift needs to be sure to have your stock shock bolts for the front. I tried some other bolts (I think they came off the back ) and they were too long and wouldn't tighten up.
I'm sure alot of others are going to be changing out their old crappy lifts and should know what they need to finish the job. I was curios if it would be easier to install the rear shocks if you pushed them in before you installed the bracket then pulled the shocks into the shock brackets? I did it the other way but it looks like it would have been easier......Just a thought!

My Perfex kit used the stock bolts, same as the Rubberdown kit.
littlegrasshopper
08-29-2007, 10:59 PM
I had the xtreme kit and they had some stupid long spacer that went from one side to the other and came with some longer bolts. No Paul I think just having the fact that you need to reuse the factory shock bolts in the front is enough. I don't want you to have to include more parts b/c most will probably have stock suspension set up. I think the xtreme lift is the only one that uses this method and I just had a hard time finding my old shock bolts.

Yup They Are Independent. Just Hoping It Will Work With Those Shock Spacers. Do You Know If This Will Change The Angle Of The Axles Dramatically,
Hey RINMAN I got your PM. I would just put the Rubberdown lift on your bike and nothing else. I am running stock springs on mine with just the RD lift. I don't want to push my CV angles too much even though I have Gorillas. I don't like the shock spacers from the HL lift kit anyways since they tend to make the springs sag in the middle. Honestly if you are going to run 29.5's or 30's on your bike with the RD lift then I would invest in some Gorillas. I think tire size has a lot to do with breaking axles along with the CV angles. I think the RD lift is perfecto.LOL
Got some pics for ya'll. Enjoy and thanks again Paul. I'm going to break in this lift kit tomorrow all day long.

Payton I see you got the snorkel for the swamp series. How do you like it? Looks good and it comes out the back. I see you had to trim the plastic a little. I have been thinking hard about getting one and can't deside.

The plastic is trimed from my previous snorkel, you would not have to trim as much as that maybe not at all. The pipe still let in water so I bought some gasket material and some muffler crack filler stuff and fixed that for 17$. All in all it is good exhaust, i just wish it was louder. It is very quiet compared to the utility series that I had.

PM sent, your kit is in a box awaiting payment ;)
Looks great Rincon1906. Yours looks like it sits higher than mine though. Maybe its your HL springs. I'm not sure why because we both run 27" Outlaws.

I would think stock would be fine if you are running something like a 27'' tire. What are you running? On the other hand, try it till something breaks and worry about the axels then lol.

Depends on what tires you are running, how hard you are on the throttle, etc.
Alot of other things factor in on axles besides a lift kit.

I have 4 kits that should be ready by the weekend, and you would make the 4th guy on the waiting list if you want one. Let me know either way, thanks.
I think you'll be fine with stockers. If you happen to break one then just replace it with a Gorilla.

Here ya go RD the pics of the rear block installed into the rear shock mounts. Before the shocks were re-installed and after. This is a great Lift, It sits higher than I expected. I have taken pics of before and after next to my stock Arctic Cat 700. Both wheelers are completely stock in the pics so it will give people a true Idea of what the lift actually does. NO HL springs NO Bigger tires just my stock AC with stock tires next to my Stock Rincon with stock tires. Before the lift then after the lift. Those pics will come a little later. For now here are the ones you asked for.

I got to test the Rd lift out big time today and the subject was rocks. We down here in south GA don't know alot about rocks so it was new to us. The Rincon with the Rd lift outperformed the other atvs hands down. While they would bottom out and get hung up I never touched a rock (except with the tires). The stock axles held up fine with no popping or troubles. The ride was less tippy than the others (except a stock Rincon that was getting hung up more than the sra bikes). I can't say enough about how happy I am with this lift. Thanks again Paul fro a great product!
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb114/ABROWNING680/riverride09-22-07012.jpg
The ride on the rocks was about 200yards long and took about 20-25minutes to make. The rocks were about basketballs with some of them being twice that size. Climbing out was the big task as the hill was about 20ft up and at least a 40 degree incline.

My dealer is awesome. I've bought 6 bikes in 1 1/2 years. I was already quoted $11300.00 for an 08 800XT, but now I'm thinking a Renegade.

Wow, thats more than I paid for my 05 brand new.
I have over 500kms on my lift so far with 0 problems. I did snap a rear CV but it was not caused by the lift in any way.

10-27-2007, 11:50 AM
It was on its way out for awhile, since the big end of the CV boot sliped off the cup and I put about 150kms of swamp riding on it as it was. It was clicking for about 2 weeks. What finally did it was there is a trail made of guard rails across a swamp, got the left rear tire wedged between two rails trying to pull out a 08 Grizz from the swamp. Snapped the CV like a twig.

Icarumba... Mac Are You Shredding Axels Again... We Just Went On A Major Ride In Nh. And My Rear Outer Boot Ripped.. It Had A Little Click Then It Was Gone.. Do You Think I Should Take The Chance And Re-boot It. Or Should I Buy A Half Axel.. Thanks Man!!!!

Replace the boot first, and if the CV goes replace it. There is a good chance its alright, just pack it with lots of grease. Its not a hard job either. I tore my right outer boot this weekend, replaced it in 30mins flat.

I would not run anything over 27's on a Rincon unless all you are using the big tire for is in water alone. The Rincon without major mods will not turn the 29.5's in mud.
The lift is still working great on my ride.
