Planning more of a local ride here on this date. Just a day ride and not camping.
There's a great creek here that I'm dying to test the new snorkels out in.

Who's up for it?

Camo500EFI
03-06-2008, 01:31 PM
When are you thinking?

Rebel64
03-06-2008, 01:40 PM
What do you mean?

Camo500EFI
03-06-2008, 01:46 PM
Sorry I missed the date. I can't make that but I might be getting off on the 16th. My boss mentioned it to me yesterday. A just because kind of day off before the silly season.

Rebel64
03-06-2008, 01:50 PM
Ok you had me a bit cornfuzed there.
Tell him you'll swap that day off for the 22nd, and then bring Tim down with ya.

Camo500EFI
03-06-2008, 01:53 PM
Can't swap... He's gonna be in the Bahamas....... I would love to switch locations with him though.

Would you want to try and get everybody up for a trip to the Cliff's on the 16th? Kind of a warm up for you?

Rebel64
03-06-2008, 02:27 PM
Not a bad idea, but I'll be working here the next 2 Saturdays so I won't be forced on the 22nd.

But yeah that sure would be nice to switch locations with the boss!

mrwilliamsrzr
03-06-2008, 05:06 PM
LOL... thats my plan too mark.. LOL

Rebel64
03-06-2008, 05:11 PM
Cool...as much as I would've liked to tell my boss NO for this Saturday. Oh well, gotta make up some lost $ somehow.
Hey we have a guy from the HL forum that wants to join us...I mentioned our forum here so hopefully he'll join up.

Rebel64
03-15-2008, 03:12 PM
Ok, we're now one week away from this ride and I'm gettin psyched!

I sure hope the weather is nice, but unless it's raining cats & dogs I'm sure we'll all have a good time no matter what it decides to do.

So just a tally here:
Buck, Peach, and a few troublemakers
Tom, wife, and some buds
Skull with some buds
Couple guys that I work with, along with a few of their friends

Am I missing anybody?

skull2002
03-15-2008, 03:15 PM
i think i might need to be moved in with the "troublemaker" group !!! i just cant get along with anybody lol

Rebel64
03-15-2008, 03:18 PM
Hahaha!!
Hell, I think most of us should be included in that grouping.

skull2002
03-16-2008, 07:53 PM
im ready to rock!

mrwilliamsrzr
03-19-2008, 07:56 PM
YA.....um....??? i still need some form of directions to this place...

Rebel64
03-19-2008, 08:14 PM
I gotta get you on the phone for them Buck...
You're not working on Friday, right?

mrwilliamsrzr
03-19-2008, 09:56 PM
friday... they are offering 16 hours.. that is a weeks pay for one day of work... or i can sit at home and collect my holiday pay... 1000.00 $ for a days work isnt bad...

but the truck needs a starter before sat. and i still have to do peaches breaks....

so probley not

Rebel64
03-19-2008, 10:59 PM
Yeah I could do double shifts on both friday and saturday, but you know that aint gonna happen. I'm gonna enjoy my 3 days off.

But the directions are easy...24 all the way to Rushville, then 61 west.
To make it easy, just meet us somewhere along 24. Don't know what way you'll be coming down, but we can hook up and convoy the rest of the way with me, skull, and tchila.

Camo500EFI
03-19-2008, 11:16 PM
Yeah then it's just 4 rights, 4 lefts and 2 u turns.

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 12:36 AM
i am planning to be out of here by 7:30 am sat. just got in from the garage. decided it would be a good idea to go over my quad and pulled the drain plug for the belt cover and there was water inside. pulled the clutch cover to find the belt beginning to come apart. the outer string on the belt came out and whipped around and sliced a hole in the top of the clutch cover at the vent tube. and apparently water from the weekends ride had leaked in there. hopefully the plastic epoxy will hold up and i won't have any hickups this weekend.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 07:44 AM
Whew, good thing you decided to check up on things.
We now have matching holes on the clutch cover! Same thing happened to me a while back.

I'm going to pull mine off this evening just to add some rtv around the gasket seal.

And I'll probably be leaving about the same time Sat. morning.

Buckster....what is your planned departure time, and how are you getting down to Rt. 24 from your place?

mrwilliamsrzr
03-20-2008, 11:25 AM
Im not sure the details of the leaving time... im not sure where 24 is.. LOL.. im just not sure..

skull2002
03-20-2008, 11:40 AM
hey mrwilliamsrzr, you can meet us in canton if you like. we are going to meet up with rebel in little america around 8 or so.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 12:06 PM

mrwilliamsrzr
03-20-2008, 01:09 PM

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 08:05 PM
yeah what a surprise. got to bed about 11:45 and had to be up by 5:30. oh well just glad i found it and was able to get it fixed before it created more work and cost more money. so i think i am ready. it is gonna be a blast. yeeee hhhaaaaaaaaaa

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 09:10 PM
Wooohooo!!!
Glad to hear that you're all good to go now Tom!

I wish the temps on Saturday were gonna be like they were today, but oh well, as long as it isn't pouring down rain we'll be having a bunch of fun there.
Hey along with the liquids, I'm just doing my usual and bringing some deli subs and munchies. Most of the time everybody just fends for themselves like that, unless we're camping out and pitching in for special stuff.

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 09:17 PM
yeah that is what we are thinkin, some pit stop beverages, and some sandwiches or such. you guys just leave the food in the trucks and head there when it is time too eat?
or unless your cooler isn't big enough and you need a refill!!!

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 09:22 PM
Yep we always just leave the majority of the stuff in the trucks and go back there to stock up and chow down.
I just pack up enough brews in the rear cooler to last a while, along with something like beef jerky to munch on if needed, but the main supplies are always left at the parking area, since it's always pretty much a close trip to get back to.

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 09:37 PM
wow are you sure you don't ride with my clan and i just haven't noticed yah. cause the way you talk i would swear you went riding with us on sunday.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 09:39 PM
:) Sounds like we're gonna get along just fine bro!!

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 09:40 PM
scratch that there is no way a bad a$$ ride that your stealth could squeeze by me.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 09:41 PM
LMAO!!!

He was in stealth mode perhaps? ;)

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 09:41 PM
hey where has everybody been, it has been way to quiet around here lately.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 09:51 PM
Hopefully preppin for Saturday.

Poor Buck is at work on 2nd shift at the moment, so I still gotta get that boy clued in on where to point his truck.

And all of the guys from work wussed on the trip for various BS reasons, so looks like it'll be just you, Skull, Buck, myself, and whoever else is out there, which there usually is. I'll probably be riding solo unless things changes with the gf.
I got in touch with some other guys, but being a 'holiday' weekend, some has other priorities, and stuff like that.
*slackers*

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 09:57 PM
tough luck, we will be sure and rub the ride in they're face. jk, ridin solo wth did you piss her off or what?

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 10:33 PM
will be interested to see how it holds up. i have a polaris #2500 and from what i hear it ain't gonna last long. so i may be in need this summer. so far my popo winch has held up pretty good, it has seen alot of use.

skull2002
03-20-2008, 10:33 PM
with mount, 220 shipped, came in 2 days

skull2002
03-20-2008, 10:35 PM
i would like to get it mounted tomorrow, but i dont know if i can squeeze it in or not. so i might just have to "swim" winchless!

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 10:58 PM

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 11:06 PM

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 11:10 PM

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 11:14 PM
it will be ok. yeah i just bought a tandem axle 18', 12,000 lb trailer so next time we can all ride together.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 11:16 PM
Yes it sure will either way.

Sweet sounding trailer there! Got any pics of it?

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 11:19 PM
not yet, won't pick it up till maybe next week. work wants to get rid of it. $500 bucks, i'd be stupid not to buy it.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 11:20 PM
Holy crap, awesome deal!!!!

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 11:48 PM
that's what i thought, lil wifey don't understand. oh well she'll get over it.

Rebel64
03-20-2008, 11:52 PM
:) Hopefully she'll come to terms with a bargain like that.
But then again...it's our territory and we NEED things like that.

tcihla79
03-20-2008, 11:56 PM

03-21-2008, 12:00 AM
how long ya been there. remember when the tram elevator was shut down?

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:02 AM
there was the big oil fire and the elevator machine room burnt.

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:02 AM
I don't know what the tram elevator is at all...but I've been there since July 94...right in the heat of the last big strike.

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:03 AM
Close to Line 4 Liner Blast?

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:05 AM
the elevator on the south east side of the plant where they bring in scrp steel to be melted down.

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:10 AM
Ok yeah I do remember that...I was on 3rd shift at the time when it happened. Damn it got cold in the plant when the heat was shutdown.
Did you work there at the time or what?

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:11 AM
does the name Drew Shar ring a bell?

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:13 AM
well, when then elevator machine room caught fire they decided to do a mod on the elevator. the company i work for did that mod, KONE ELEV. we were there for several weeks working lots of over time. made alot of money those two months.

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:14 AM

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:16 AM

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:20 AM
LMAO!!!
Ok there was a gal that worked over there by that name a while back...thought that's who ya meant. Or at least it was something like that.
I haven't spent much time on that side of the wall though...I'm all the way on the west end of the building on the big block side.

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:23 AM
the farthest west i ventured was to the hardware center where they stocked hardware. we borrowed a few bolts from there. shuut i got to return them one of these days.

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:26 AM
Ah that would be called the 'free access' area.
Not that I've ever been there. ;)

That's kinda right across the main aisle from where my dept is.

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:28 AM
that is about the extent of my stay in the mapleton plant.

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 12:31 AM

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 12:33 AM

Rebel64
03-21-2008, 10:27 PM
Heck we can wait for you if you're only that far behind us.
Or if not we can meet up in Rushville at the gas station with the semi parking lot behind it. I always stop there and top off my tank so I don't have to do it on the way home.

Thanks for your #...got it wrote down and stuck on my phone here.
And yes, I'm still flyin solo.

tcihla79
03-21-2008, 10:38 PM

03-22-2008, 01:32 AM
im driving the $2,000 truck with the $10,000 wheeler on the back.

I think i will be topping off again in Canton before we leave-leave.. Perry is going to meet us there.. Not sure how this truck does on long hauls.. But taking the new truck would be to easy.

I guess we will see everyone on the way... Someone bring the tool kit..LOL

Rebel64
03-22-2008, 01:45 AM
Better not need the tools unless something breaks while we're riding!
But I got the tool boxes all loaded up...just hope they stay right where they are in the truck.

Crashin out in a few...stayed up later than expected, but still plan on being outa here before 7:30.
Gonna give you a shout in about 6 hours dude!

Rebel64
03-22-2008, 08:36 PM
Buck, Peach, Tom, Lisa, Jim, Debbie, Perri, and Tracy...thanks a lot for coming out today!!
I'm really glad you all had a good time there, and it was great meeting you all ('cept for Buck and Peach) for the first time.
I couldn't believe all of the water though...I've never seen it that flooded out. Sure made some of the pits impossible, and also certain areas of the creek I'm used to riding in.

We'll have to do it again when it's warmer and after it dries out some.
Pics are uploading at the moment.

Camo500EFI
03-22-2008, 08:46 PM
Alright so who broke what? And who got stuck??

Rebel64
03-22-2008, 08:52 PM
I have a rear axle issue goin on...boot slid off on the outer end, and it makes a nice clunk every 20' or so. Really hoping there's no permanent damage done inside. I'll tear into it tomorrow to see what's up.
And just about everybody got stuck, (besides me...I knew where NOT to go). Perri almost had a drowning issue, but this is one time we can't be slammin the Hondas...after draining the airbox and sitting the bike up on it's ass, it fired right back up.
I spent the last couple hours riding shotgun in Bucks RZR, and he almost killed us, and drowned me in the first 10 mins I was with him.

Ok here's the pics that I took, but there aren't that many. http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m169/softailrebel/3-22-08%20Ruffcorns/

Lisa (Toms wife) took a bunch, so hopefully they'll get them uploaded soon.

Camo500EFI
03-22-2008, 09:08 PM
Cool pics Mark. There does appear to be a lot of water out there. Sorry I missed it.

Rebel64
03-22-2008, 09:11 PM
Thanks Ed. It'll be a lot better after it dries up some and warms up.
Then hopefully you will be able to make it down again, and also camp out.

Camo500EFI
03-22-2008, 09:14 PM
I'm gonna try and ride tomorrow but I doubt it will be muddy.... Snowy but not muddy.

Rebel64
03-22-2008, 09:16 PM
Ok hope you have fun if you do get out.
And it's just about damn time you quit mentioning that dreaded "S" word.
Nuff of that stuff until next year!!

It is a little to far for day rides! Over all it is a great place to ride. There were alot on nice people that were hanging around but none of them got talkative to us until we were loading up.

Canton, mo....LMAO.. I guess i should have asked first.

Anyway.
I love all the Off-camber trenches, the RZR was made for that place.

Lots of dirt... The dust will suck come summer..

Overall... minus the drive i give to " cool guy " thumbs Up..

And Perry... Your the man.. You get my vote for most extrema rider of the day...

since i cant vote for my self...

Adam, I had an outer band slip loose off of the boot, causing a lot of garbage to work up inside of the cv.
Everything is torn down now and there doesn't appear to be any physical damage inside. Looks like I'll just have to repack the boot with grease and then reattach it.

i don't mind putting mine through some abuse. it's just that it can get a lil expensive to be replacing parts all the time. it is fun but the whole money factor becomes an issue. i don't see giving it up anytime soon. i think my problem was created by me. the big tires the lift kit the snorkels yada yada i believe just create more issues for you down the road. but what fun would it be if no one modified and we all rode identicle machines.

I didn't really get a good chance to get that deep. When I started venturing into the creek after Skull has his incident, I found out that I was leaking water into the clutch case. Kinda sucked having to drain it out several times, then shortly after that the cv issue happened.
The creek bottom was pretty unstable also compared to how it usually is from all the rain we've had making the bottom very muddy.

Rebel64
03-24-2008, 07:09 PM
The place is VERY different from last summer. The majority of the different pits are totally flooded out and you can't tell where they are...made for a couple of dangerous situations.
The creek doesn't have a stable bottom anymore either with all of the rain lately washing mud into it. I sure hope it dries out some before my next trip there.

Glad you all had a good time there Tom.
Trust me, this summer there will be a lot more opportunities for some fun riding, both in the mud pits and in the creek.

Hope your teardown goes well tonite.
I've just about got the cv all cleaned and flushed out and going to repack it and reassemble it tomorrow.
I also poured about a half gallon of water into the clutch case, and no leaks yet, so I'm thinking it might be the back plate somewhere that's the culprit.
There was no evidence of water or mud underneath the front snap in section where the clutch exhaust comes out at, so I can rule that out at least.

tcihla79
03-24-2008, 10:21 PM
bummer there Mark, yeah it could be behind the back plate. i wonder if you could plug the intake for the belt and blow some air in the drain plug just to double check the seal before you dissassemble the clutch. just a thought.
got everything apart on my end and gonna see about some seals tommorrow and a new clamp for the boot i just replaced.
also gonna drill some holes in the cv guards cause man they hold in the mud.

I thought about the air method, but I didn't feel like taking the pod apart to get to the intake tube in there...almost just as fast to take the clutch apart I guess.
I have some extra clamps if you can't find the right ones around here...just let me know.
I'm def gonna drill some holes in those mud collectors too! I think that's where the whole boot problem started out at. Remember us looking at the boot and how close it was to the carrier when it was packed full of mud?

hey i forgot to tell ya. i got to lookng for the seals on my front housing. the only seals i could find where from polaris. the NTI part number on the seal would not cross reference to anything. so i called german bliss in princville and the only way they could get them for me was in a kit with all the seals for the front housing which is $40.00. what a bunch of bs. so i nti and they told me they made them for Hilliard and gave me the number. so then i calle dhilliard and got this nice gal on the phone and explained the situation, and voila. she shipped me out two new ones free of charge. sorry so long, i was just very impressed with their customer service.

tcihla79

a mag drill is kind of like a portable drill press. but it has an elecromagnet. it uses a special drill bit with an aligning center pin inside the drill bit. you line the center pin with your mark or center punch, turn the drill on and turn the handle just like on a drill press. the mag holds it on your mark. we use it for drilling big holes and for drilling on a horizontal plane or over your head. the bits for it are expensive but it is worth its weight in gold.
