You might want to check their schedule. I don't believe they are open every weekend anymore, I think they only open one day out of the month now. Like my wife mentioned above, they are having a ride in September sometime then they are having the Mudders Magazine / Highlifter mud bog on the third weekend of November. We will be there for the whole weekend for that event.

Dan its 1776 kms or so according to yahoo maps. 2 guys could make this drive in one day.

K, now you guys got me and the wife interested, Brian, you drive a truck right, any chance you could get a big rig and a trailer to load multiple machines into or on and we could try and do a "CANADIAN INVASION" if we all split the cost to get a truck and trailer big enough to haul all our asses down there? Then we could all just drive cars down behind you to save on gas and car pool it up.

bmdjmd
09-09-2007, 11:16 AM
Weeeellllll i dont think they would just give me the truck and trailer BUT i also dont know if they would rent it too me also. i would have to ask. i'm not thinking it would be cheap though, might be easier/cheaper to rent a enclosed trailer or flat bed and truck to run down there and share the costs of that, depending on the numbers of people maybe be able to do it with a passenger van also. Im liken the idea thats for sure and am into sharing the cost, i think we need to get some numbers in place of who all is going and that might make it easier to decide.

Rubberdown
09-09-2007, 11:30 AM
Well if I can get my 2 machines and me, the wife and the kid down there and back for a decent cost, I'm in. Would you ask if you could rent or borrow a truck off of them, hell maybe they would need something sent down that way and you could do it as a favour also??? I dont know, I dont drive a big rig so I'm just tossing out some idea's.

Well one of the big containers, so we could put a whole shit load of ATV's inside and ya, probably camp/sleep inside. What do you think? How much do you figure fuel would cost to drive that far and back in a big rig?

I thought van also, but it wouldnt be very comfy to sleep in i would think BUT hey i would have a bed hehehe. Also need to make sure that we can park this son'o'bitch as they sink like a stone in mud.

As for fuel wow im guessing here but i would imagine 1200-1500 dollars for fuel in one of these things, its about 1200 miles one way, i can almost do that on 1 tank which is about 1200 miles yes miles not kilometers. One fill up is usually around $600. And then there is the cost of using/renting the unit for that time period. thats where i have no idea. hmmm does that scare anyone yet??? it may be cheaper to rent a savana van and a trailer that will hold like 6 or so quads. and im not making excuses i really reallly really want to go so im trying to be helpful here.

Did i mention i really really really want to go????

PoPoRZR
09-09-2007, 03:53 PM

If it was me and i lived that far I would rent me a ryder truck...Load them things up and take one car and car pool....

exactly what i would do. rent the biggest ryder/u-haul truck i could find and cram as many quads you can inside.

then which of you has the biggest vehicle or van or suv could car pool the rest.

Rubberdown
09-09-2007, 04:46 PM
hmmm.... anybody know anyone at a u-haul or rental chain to get us a good deal, I'm sure they also bill you buy the mile used and its probably about 25 cents or more per mile/KM....

As for the fuel for the big rig, if you split that up between lets say 10 machines, thats only gonna be just over $100 each, that aint too bad. Then lets say the rental or usage is about the same, so every person is at around $250 each and we can either bring tents or crash on the trailer. Thats a pretty good deal so far to go to this place in my opinion.

"Bankrupt"
09-09-2007, 04:52 PM
cant help you with the rental truck. thats not my cup of tea. nor with finding a rig.

im good for suggestions. but i have no contacts in either of those areas.

but whatever it takes for you guys to make it. ill try my best to help.

Rubberdown
09-09-2007, 04:56 PM
Well a one way trip with a U-haul 27" truck is almost $800 milage included, they dont let you select a round trip if you are heading out of town, and for in town use, its only got up to 24 hours of use listed to get a price from them.

"Bankrupt"
09-09-2007, 05:05 PM
well rent one for the trip down, then setup one down here for the return trip.

how many bikes you think you can get on 1 truck? you could always stand them up on the back bumpers.

PoPoRZR
09-09-2007, 05:05 PM
WOW....If any of you guys that has like a fifth wheel flat trailer and a f350 or something that would be the cheapest...or maybe just rent the uhaul trailer....and pull it with a truck...

bmdjmd
09-09-2007, 05:45 PM
Hey paul its a cheap way to get the machines there HOWEVER you also have to keep in mind that all the people for those 10 machines have to get there also, there in lies another cost.

I will ask at the end of the week when i get home about the cost of using the truck and a van for this trip and see what im told. i will also have a bud make some calls and see what he can find for pricing on renting a similar setup would be or at least as big as we can get a hold of.

HMMMM now that i think of it i do have a buddy with a fifth wheel trailer and a truck to haul it, wonder what he might do the trip for?? now i got me thinking......

Rubberdown
09-09-2007, 06:03 PM
Well buddy, lets try to make it happen. I hate to say this in public, but the 06 mud nats was friggin cool, its like nothing a Canadian has ever seen before, so if this is something similar with like 5000 people and bog events, it will be a gauranteed good time worth the money spent to be a part of it.

As for those 10 machines and people to go with them, you would need seating for about 10 people, so 2 SUV's to follow and we would be golden, split ALL the fuel equally and away we go, take off early EARLY on the friday and head her back early Monday morning?????

oh oh I think I started something....WEG.....not saying I ain't going.....cause I sure taste the craving as this thing expands...

Last December I rented a Penske.....26footer....went from Kingston to Ajax, up to Lindsay...then back to Kingston.....can't remember the mileage....but it cost just over 70 bucks in fuel.....and 225 and change for rental....

http://www.pensketruckrental.com/business_rental/select_a_truck_specs/straight.html

clean truck.....holds up to 17k payload........

Lets say 6 machines....50 inches wide....2 wide....8 feet long.....there's the load....cab....holds two comforably....and one tracer vehicle...following or

unless you stand atv's up on end.......that's 3x4'....then park tracer vehicle inside....12 feet = 24feet + or - a few feet....rest of the crew and supplies in vehicle.....

3 tanks of fuel= 180 bucks...x 2 = 360 divided by 6 plus 10 percent for margin of error = 400 bucks.....return...not bad 70 bucks a head....for trip down....

just a thought.....

Only problem we might occur is how to load and unload vehicle and machines....

bmdjmd
09-09-2007, 08:12 PM

Well a major invasion seems less and less iminent, cost will be more than likely to high to use a truck from work. the president, yeah i dont fool around, says if i was to higher the truck to do the job it would 2.10 per mile return.

Rubberdown
09-15-2007, 10:20 AM
how many miles is it buddy, and how many machines can we fit inside a van style trailer??? It might just be doable, i could talk to Pete with ATTV and see if hes up for it, we could do an episode on it maybe if hes interested. Lets say we get 10 machines to go down and 2 cars/trucks to follow with people, thats not that bad, maybe a few hund per rider for fuel????

bmdjmd
09-15-2007, 11:00 AM
its 1200 miles from toronto, its an extra 108 miles to the bracebridge yard. thats 1308 total one way, that makes 2616 both ways

2618 x 2.10=
$5497.80

As for how many thats unknown to me, if they are stacked wheels of one on the one in front if it maybe 14 if they all sit on the floor maybe 10. The president said he would think about it and let me know something on monday, see if there was a way it could be done cheaper. im still thinking NO.

bmdjmd
09-16-2007, 11:57 PM
102" wide and they are 53' long, so a pair of narrow machines might fit, they would each have to be under 50" to fit side by side, at 7' long each roughly thats 7 down each side totalling 14 IF THEY FIT SIDE BY SIDE.

"Bankrupt"
09-17-2007, 06:55 AM
all atv's have to be under 50" width. its a law. if they go over 50" wide then they get classified as a RUV and are limited on how much HP they can have from the factory.

so unless your going to bring some rhinos or rangers your good.

bmdjmd
09-17-2007, 10:21 AM
True enough there Polaris700 BUT with aftermarket rims and tires the machines easily stretch that limit, i know mine with stock rims and tires is 46" wide and with itp c-4's and bugs it was 48", with the ss12's and 28 MST's its 49.5" wide. SOOO not to be a smart ass but anything like a cat or PO-PO with aftermarket rims and tires may in fact get closer to 51-52" wide

Okay, so if this all comes to happen, we can put them in there with a wider machine next to a more stock machine to make sure we CAN fit them 2 wide and then 7 long. Then if you have 14 machines, thats total cost / 14 = $393 per rider, but if your boss is a good guy and he can do it for a little less, then its even better because we should all share fuel costs for the following cars as well which might end up costing another $50 to $100 per person. Now if he let you rent the truck for $1.60 per mile, thats about $300 per rider.....

Talked to the Pres on monday there is no chance of a better price, AND i dont have any confirmation that i will be the one hauling the trailer, its a first time a driver has asked for this type of thing. SOOOOOO i dont know what the concensus is with y'all BUT for 500 a piece assuming there is enough people to make this that cheap, yes thats alot of yes to confirm and get deposits from, i personally cant afford more than this so wouldnt want a surprise all of a sudden 2 days before the event. There has to be a cheaper way to go about this in my opinion. Not backing out just speaking out now while there is time to look at other options, or at least look into other options, ONE more thing IF a tractor trailer goes it will be a 2 day journey minimum just due to driving laws for a commercial driver, ie the truck would have to leave wednesday evening.

but in all sincerity......if people are going to talk the talk then the serious ones will have to put a security deposit down(to be serious).....

I guess the best thing to do is setup a time to chat in the chatroom on the forum......to come to a concensus on everything.....just a thought....

Well we would need at least what, 14 machines/riders to cover the big truck and trailer, then we would need about 3 following vehicals that can sit around 4 to 6 people per vehicle in case anyone (Like me or anyone else) would be bringing a kid along and then those 3 vehical's would need to all pool up the fuel cost and split it per person with EVERYONE included, kids and all because, lets face it, they take up a seat too. What do you guys think?

bmdjmd
09-22-2007, 09:07 PM
sounds like it might be more than everyone bargained for?? just my thoughts, i have asked everyone i know that might be into something like this and cant get even a maybe from anyone. If there is only 4 or so of us is it not more possible to just rent a F-250 and a trailer to do it??

DAN-O-MITE
09-23-2007, 08:29 AM
A few years back I use to do the Casino Rama Charters(AZ Bus Tours)....and for me to rent the bus for the day....we're talking 1200 bucks.........now it sits up to 56 people....has all kinds of luggage compartments.......and there are units with a hitch system....

Now when I was inquiring....there are smaller companies that were willing to do it for about 8 bills...and that's everything.....insurance....fuel.....driver....

50 people to go....50 bucks a pop....2500 bucks........now I know there are different bus companies that travel down towards Kentucky all the time...perhaps this might be the route to go.....see the cost....with a cargo trailer in tow.....see what final cost would be....for the Charter bus....driver...get a feel of how many folks are going......and see what the breakdown would be....this way let somebody else take care of the driving....we enjoy the trip.....and I am sure a few families wouldn't mind coming if it was approached this way....

$6000 complete package....for tour bus...driver and trailer...plus accomodations...lets say.....divided by 50 passengers = 120 bucks a head...

I think this is the best way to go....lets headache at the border too

Rubberdown
09-23-2007, 08:44 AM
That all sounds pretty good Dan, I hate to drive long distances, but how many ATV's would you get on a tow behind trailer for a bus?

Rubberdown
09-23-2007, 08:45 AM
I would have 2 ATV's, myself, my wife and my 11 yr old.

DAN-O-MITE
09-23-2007, 08:50 AM
I really don't know....I do know I have seen coaches pulling trailers before....but I am sure there are alumminum flatbeds.....I am sure coach companies would have a better idea or perhaps suggestions.....personally I think this is the better way to go.....let them do the driving....let us enjoy the trip....

Rubberdown
09-23-2007, 09:06 AM
Have you done a long bus trip like this before Dan? My work took everyone to Chicago once in a bus, what a good time, I think we were on the bus long enough to get drunk, then sober, then drunk again LOL, no not realy but we had a great time, and we were all feeling NO pain 9 hours later ;)

I posted up our interest into having a Canadian Invasion trip on the Canadian forum here, the Mud Hole and on the Time, so we will see who else has any interest in going. I seriously think if we get enough people, it can happen.

homer905
09-23-2007, 10:27 AM
Hey guys. I followed your link from the Time. I have read through everything posted here and it seems to me that the question of how many quads and how to haul them is the possible problem in this. If you are counting on 50 people or there abouts. How many quads would there be with that number of people and what size trailer would hold them?
This sounds like it could be quite an adventure. I wish I could go. Maybe Mr. Viscolock and the Mudfockers would be interested.

DAN-O-MITE
09-23-2007, 11:20 AM
yes I use to do tours.....on the weekends I use to average about 1000 a day.....was a long day definately.....did 3 years of it....

Mostly Casino Rama charters.....then again.....Mount St. Louis(ski charters)...Niagara Falls.....Quebec.....these kinda trips....personally I don't think I can handle the distance driving anymore but I am kinda familiar with what they are about.....

We might want to look at Great Canadian Coaches out of Guelph.....Coach Canada(Trentway Wagner)....Angel Tours.....there's all kinds......but its worth it to stick to a well known one.....in case there's a mechanical problem...its resolved quickly...it does happen........yep I know about the party's...been there done that.....treat the driver well ..and it can be a great trip....for both parties...

Dan, you have absolutely NO IDEA what its like in the south with ATVing. I'm not a big fan anymore for obvious reasons of the staff over at highlifter but the 06 mud nationals where quite an event. I had the best time and met some of the best people down there. They ride 24 hours a day man. One night me and SoutherTestPilot when for a night ride with the Bama Boggers (GREAT FRIGGIN CREW BTW) and we started out around 9pm, I got back to the trailer for bed at around 5am, and I got to the quad wash station at around 4:15 AM thinking no line up, 45 minutes at 4am dude, I'm tellin you, its insane down there. Kids 10 and 12 years old riding lifted, clutched big wheeled full size machine like they were born on the damn things.

I put it like this when I try to describe it, it looked like woodstock but instead of hippies and drugs, it was red necks (no offence to my souther friends) and 4 wheelers EVERYWHER ethe eye could see, miles and miles of it. And I think I picked up a little red neck myself being down there meeting soooo many good people. And talk about southern hospitality, I wish my kid would call people sir when addressing them or answering a question from someone.

Dano, its like nothing else you will ever experiance with an ATV, I would like to go again but bring the family next time, they would have a blast too.
