I wash mine with Warm soapy water once a year, or if I sink it.
When installing the cover on a bike with the HC you need to push down on the cover while tightening the lag screws

I saw some actual clutch wash stuff but not sure where it was. It was probably dish soap in a new bottle.

Does it really help to do it once a year? I have had swamp water in mine a couple of times but it still works good.

I honestly couldnt say if it helps.
When I do clean it the water is pretty dirty
I figure it cant hurt.

Powermadd makes the cleaner, its like $8.50 or so a bottle, I keep a bottle around but don't use it alot, nice if you get oil or something on the sheeve, a good brake clean should have much the same effect.

Yep its on page 276 in Royaldistributing.

So how do you clean the clutch exactly? Does it have to come off the bike?

well alot of the external dust and dirt could be washed out with some kind of pressure hose and soap, scrub brush, etc, while on the machine, as dirt inside the clutch system does alot of the wearing, the aluminum may become discolored by dirt so that it doesn't come totally clean, thats ok, just make sure you get the buildup, then clean the sheeve faces with the powermadd cleaner that removes any contaminates and oils so the belt isn't harmed. if you have it apart I always like to take the secondary off and depending which one you have , check the buttons and clean it, while your doing all of this wiggle the clutches to make sure the bushings are good.
