2005, my first contest, myself and 4 other heavy weights and I took 1st place overall.
Farmers walk for max distance in 30 seconds, I got 330 feet with 165 lbs per hand, very light weight. I got fist in this event.

180 pound log press for reps in 30 seconds, I got about 15 reps but only locked out on around 12 of them, I got 3rd in this event, this is by far my weakest event of all of them.

suitcase style dead lift for reps with 185 lbs per hand in 30 seconds, I got 28 reps and got 1st in this event also.

Last event, rope pull with a big tire on the end of it, I got second place to a friend of mine by less than 1 second, I stopped pulling when I thought I had it finished, but I had about 2 more feet to pull so I had to grab the rope and pull one more time, so 2nd in this event.

Overall 1st place finish, felt pretty damn good for my first contest :D

2006, my second contest, lots more guys, with lots more experiance. I think I took 5th out of 14 people.
first event was wheelbarrel walk with a car (no motor or tranny in it) for a timed distance or a max distance to where you set it down, I think it was 50 feet and I placed pretty good, somewhere in the top 5 I think. I did a full walk with it.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20dunnville%20mudcat%20festival%202006/100_2840.jpg
Then a log press, around a 210 lof I think, I only got about 4 or 5 reps...
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20dunnville%20mudcat%20festival%202006/100_2837.jpg
Then a meadly with a carry, a car flip, and a stone load. I have never seen a stone up until this day and it was a 265 pounder, if it hadny been for this stone, my enent time would have been killer. The carry and car flip was done in like 15 seconds, the stone took me almost a minute untuil finally I figured out the trick...

Last was a truck pull, we were supposed to have a pulling rope with this event but it wasnt long enough so it was just the harness, stay low to the ground and gig DEEP, the truck was 55,000 pounds. I actually had the best time in my weight class for this one but the guy that beat me had his 2 friends on the stop watch and they cheated his time....

2006, 3rd contest, LOTS of big boys, I think I finished 6th in this one out of 12 or 14 guys, it was good though, heavy stuff to make you feel like you earned every second and every foot moved...
first event was the axle press for max weight, you only get 3 attemps and you pic your own weight, my max was only 190 I think, its a 2" bar so its a lot harder to get up there. The 2 guys that tied for first in this event did something like 300 pounds and then they stopped the so no one would get hurt.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20Woodstock%202006/100_3024.jpg
next up was the farmers walk, 265 per hand for 100 feet as fast as possible, I think I got 4th in this one, got a full walk, lots of guys couldnt get 10 feet with it so I felt strong LOL.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20Woodstock%202006/100_3021.jpg
Next was whats called the Conans Wheel, you lift the bar at the end and walk the circle for distance, foirst time doing this event, got like 20 feet or something like that, it was just under 700 pounds on the machine, I think I got 4th or 5th...
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20Woodstock%202006/100_3012.jpg
Last event, tire flip with an 800 pounder for 75 feet as fast as possible with a 60 second time limit. I was short by about 2 feet or 1 more flip, I think I also got 3rd or 4th in this event.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20Woodstock%202006/100_3018.jpg
It was the axle press that sent my overall placing back to what it was :frusty:

2007, small contest, tied for first and decided to give the new comer a chance so we did a 5th event and the weight slid off the farmers walk bars on him so I won, I let him try again and his time beat me so he let me try again and I had him smoked but I lost my footing from running so fast with the weight and I wiped out right before the finish line.
Wife didnt do a good job with the pics this time, but heres a few events, truck pull wirh arm over arm rope,
kettlebell press for reps, stand and hold for time...

2007, another good one, 20+ competitors in an open class style event, guys weighing 150 all the way up to a guy that was 330....
I got 5th but again, with this one I think I ight have had 1 place better due to poor timeing of the events.....
Axle dead lift with 395 pounds, 24 reps in the 1 minute time limit, 5th place...
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20woodstock%202007/100_3803.jpg
video of the event...

Next was the stupid log press, 190 for reps, after that dead lift, I had almost nothing left in the tank, I only got 3 reps and 10th place in this event...
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20woodstock%202007/100_3805.jpg
Farmers walk, pretty light with 195 per hand, I placed 7th but my wife timed a lot of the guys and people came up to us and said no way, I should have been around 3rd for this one....
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20woodstock%202007/100_3807.jpg
Last was the tire...again with the time, I got 3rd but I had to stop and tell the guy to look at the finish line, the only 2 guys tha placed ahead of me were by less than .2 seconds and the other was by a few seconds....shitty timers for these events, I was pretty pissed off..
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/rubberdown/strongman%20woodstock%202007/100_3811.jpg
in this pic, you can see the finish line, all you have to do is get the corner of the tire to cross the line, heres where I had to stop and ask him if I was over and then he so OH, yes you are and stopped the time..

Great pics Paul. I like the way yall just put the event on right in the middle of downtown or looks like in the middle of a neighborhood on some of the events, that's so cool. Also, one thing that makes me giggle is those PUNY little guys that are spotting behind you in some of those pics, if you actually did drop the weights or the stone, it would crush the poor fella trying to save ya.

Thanks guys, its hard as hell to complete every event, but I have never not finished something in a comp. That atlas stone was the one thing I almost walked away from after several attemps, now that I know how to do it, I can load a stone pretty fast as long as it isnt tooo toooo heavy LOL.
Lee, they are usually held at the same time as a carnival, or some sort of city event like a parade, or whatever.

I'm spent just looking at the pictures. Very impressive!
how many times a year do you train for this paul ? it looks interesting. and what is the average age the guys are in these events. what is the prize to?

Ray, I didnt compete at all this season (late Spring, summer and early Fall) due to no time for training, but I hope to compete a couple times next season.
I have competed with guys 16 years old, even a 15 year old once, and guys in there 40's and even a guy in his 50's once, he did very well in the light weight class.
As for times a year to actually train, usually if I know a comp is coming up that I do plan to attend, I'll start working on it about 2 to 3 months prior if I know the events, if I dont, theres not much I can do to pinpoint my training. I can tell you this though, any shoulder pressing event and I get my ass kicked in that event, I suck at the log press and the thick bar press. Give me the farmers walk any day, I like that, the stones and the tire flip the best.....well, I had a blast with the truck pull and car flip as well....I guess I like all of them but the shoulder pressing events LOL....
