i was mudding tonight and i busted 2 holes in the inside of my type 7 wheel, like baseball size holes, they are only like an 1/8inch thicki can see how they busted, does ITP have any type of warranty ? these wheels are like new, second question if i can grab the front right shaft and spin itwith my hand....... what is likely busted? and do i go with gorrila parts or stock again? feels like it stripped out something, im new to the whole fixing shit..... on this quad.....

itp has a lifetime warranty. if you break it, they replace it.

contact them for info on how to setup a return.

as for the cv shaft, if it spins with the tire on the ground, you have serious problems. if your talking about spinning it with the wheel propped up or with the wheel off, thats normal. polaris does not have a locked front diff. each side spins freely when your not in 4x4 which allows you to turn easy and lets the bike drive/steer better. but it spind free inside the front diff. if your shaft is spinning and your tire is not. you probaby busted your cv joint.

The lifetime warranty is only on the new SS rims as far as i know

WOW, can you post up a picture of that rim for us please. I'd be all over them for a replacement if it were mine. I'm not sure what the warranty is on them but I would think they wouldnt want the negative publicity they would get if there were pictures floating around the various ATV forums.

As for the shaft, when does it spin freely, like Polaris700 said, is it with the tire sitting still on the ground, or is that also rotating?

Oh ya, welcome to the forum, were happy to have you here ;)

I wouldnt ride it with a busted CV in there unless you pull the axle right out. We have done this in the bush before, so as long as you can pull it out of the front diff, and get it all the way off the machine, you can ride it. If you only need a CV joint, I can persoanlly recommend one of our memebers here that sells them, he goes by the name cd and he will give you a 10% discount just for being a member on here. His CV's are the same as the ones you would get from EPI and I just picked up a spare front and rear for the "away" trips.

So its obvious that the cage blew apart in the CV joint because the "star" as I've heard it called is still on the axle shaft, so your axle spline should still be okay. Heres a link to a thread by cd that includes a link to his site, and you could just PM him here on the site. I think I paid $89.99 for a complete CV joint, that includes the grease, heavy duty boot and clamps along with the actual joint.

As for that rim, it looks to me like maybe you got a pretty big rock turned around inside the rime while you were riding and it ripped the shit out of your rim, your caliper, and your CV joint.

For the caliper, there is another member parting out a machine on here, he just might have what you need, and probably a lot LOT cheaper than a brand new one. Check this thread here for that....

Now I dont know if it will fit, but I do know that polaris isnt know for changing there parts all that often, so you may be able to use it, your machine looks newer than an 03, but your dealer should be able to tell you if it will fit. Hell I might be able to run the part # for you if you give me your year/model and the side it is????

sounds like a rock got wedged between the caliper and the rim and VOILA you have a busted rim, this is actually more common than people think. Yes the only ITP wheels with lifetime warranty are the SS line.

the CV and the rim/caliper issues are on 2 different wheels lol, thats where my shit luck comes in... it is an 06 700sportsman im pretty sure the 03s had different brakes , not possitive, pretty much figured it was a rock when i saw the caliper, i have a new wheel on the way already and im in the process of contacting cd on the CV and im gonna check ebay on calipers

By the looks of the rim, I would guess that your caliperbroke first and was draging and grinding into the wheel. That looks really wore on the inside of the rim. That axle break is a very common cage break. You could do just a rebuild kit or buy a compete out cup assembly.

You could do just a rebuild kit or buy a compete out cup assembly.

Although the rebuild kits are readily available, and less money than a complete CV joint, I persoanlly do not recomend it. I have done a rebuild and it didnt last a single ride, and heres why I think it didnt. Although it might have looked like the inside of the cup was okay, I would guess any wear or damage that was inside the cup that was not noticed probably caused almost immediate bearing damage and therefore caused the joint to fail.

HOWEVER, it could have just been my dumb luck, but in any case, the rebuild kits were listed at around $75 from gorilla, but cd has the complete joint with a 10% discount for $89.99 for the ones I bought.

so i got it all back together, something still makes a funny noise, i didnt ride it very long so i dont know what it was or where it was coming from, the CV went on rather good, besides getting the stock clip off on the splines...i pulled pretty much the whole strut loose and slid it in wham bam shes done, is it a sealed fit around the shiny side of the CV (where it slides in the hub?)i know there was dirt in the hub(in the back bottom of the strut...) and i was wondering if that was a tight enough ffit that i should take it back appart and clean in there... or if there is an air gap ?

well i crawled under it and looked and im pretty sure i answered my own question... there is still a slight rattle but i dont think its drivetrain related...... man i put like 10psi in my 589s and she turns mint! so much less tire on the ground to turn, it'll prolly ride rough but if it turns good i can deal with it
