I'm from Pensacola. We dont have many places to ride around here. Kinda gotta do it on your hunting lease or private land. Cant ride state management area's here like south Florida or North Alabama. Really sux. Seems like everytime I find a place to ride, it gets closed. Only thing I can say is because of my job, I can ride closed places and claim its for homeland security. Especially now since I'm a certified Police ATV operator. :peace:

Turk, I just realized, were on the opposite ends of the state. I guess we wont be riding together anytime soon. :mmph:
I'm way down south here outside ft. lauderdale on the outskirts of broward county.I'm off of I-75 on the east side of alligator alley. For me a trip to lets say tampa would be about 3 hours, takes me me about 2 hours to reach fort myers from where i'm at.So a trip up to the panhandle area would take about 5 or 6 hours. It sucks being so south in the state of florida because when you live this far south you relize florida is a long state to drive. My wife and I are going to be selling our home down here soon and moving up to tennessee to be closer to family,i've got just about 20 years in here at the community college I work for so the timing for me to retire from the college is just about right and we are also tired of high property taxes, property insurance and hurricanes, etc, etc.South florida isnt what it was per say 25 years ago.

If you live this far down south in florida like I do it takes and average of 8 hours to drive from down here up to the FL/GA line.I never realized how long the state of florida is until I drove back from NC one year.

I don't mind driving at all. In fact, my buddy and I have driven to Colorado 5 times to go skiing in the Vail area. 27 to 30 hours of straight drivin'!
No I dont mind the actual driving itself I love being behind the wheel and on the road. It's getting me to leave the house.
Well i'm going to motivate this weekend and head to my local riding spot "Holey Lands/3A North/Rotenburger Management areas' and do some riding.I've been testing out the RD lift's I put on my machine around here where I live, there's a few acres up the road with a couple of trails and few small mud holes(very small but rutted out) and everything seems pretty solid so i'm looking foward to getting out and doing a full day of riding and seeing how things hold up.

Sarasota is about an hour north of Fort Myers I think right?.Nice over there i've been there a few times.Whats the riding area's like over your way?
mudsportsman05
11-13-2007, 04:26 PM
yea its about 2 hours north of fort myers.
There isnt really any places to ride up here.
We generally go over the L-Cross, and C&R. Which are pretty good.
We should meet up and ride sometime.
I am also going to the Okeeochbee mudfest in Feb. That place is crazy.

Which one is near or around Lake Okeechobee?? or are they both in that general area??
mudsportsman05
11-14-2007, 10:41 AM
They both are. Buth L-cross is much closer to okeehobee.
C&R is in Palmsdale. It takes us about an hour and 20 min to get there. And I think it would take about the same for you.
I was just looking on the map.L-Cross is Straight up US27 north to Moore Haven and about 22 miles east of 27 on HWY78,yeah about an hour and a half.I used to make it up to Avon Park in about 3 hours to go riding when I had family living there.

Yea that sounds like thats right.
You should definitely check out the Okeechobee Mudfest in Feb. It is off of SR7o. THere was like 20,000 people last year. Its crazy, lots of mud and water.

Hey...just wheelie across the locks at Moorehaven then turn towards Indiantown :thumb:
Ever ride the bombing range at Avon Park? :biggrin1:
Crooms over in Brooksville ....just north on I-75 from Tampa "used" to be a great place in the early 80's....I hear it's not that great any more tho :puke:

Those pesky go fast moto X machines are as bad as the mosquitoes down there!.....even sound like 'em too ........
Seems they just don't get the enjoyment of leisurely riding the trails and actually stopping and enjoying a few mudd holes along the way

And whats even worse, is downhere they take their little racing bikes and try to mud the crap out of them at like 30mph. All they do is get in the way of others, but to each his own I guess.

No dont think i've ever rode there.Used to ride some place not to far from where my cousin lived.I think the local law put a stop to it though, there were to many people going out there.

Same thing up here....we like to camp and ride at Busco Beach (http://www.buscobeach.com/) but seems lately the MXr's and sport quads becoming way too agressive!
While riding to the good back mudd holes, we need to ride by the sand hills and those azzhats like to come out of the side trails WFO :mad2:

Tragic day for sure man.
As of now we plan on sticking it out here unless we can manage to sell our house in this dead real estate market and take the money and leave florida altogether. But it looks like we'll have to ride out the real estate market and wait it out a few years.Wait for it to rebound if we dont want to take a beating on the selling price. The Wife and I both agree that if someone offered us what we wanted for our place tomorrow we be packing as soon as the closing went through.

Where are you wanting to move to?
It's changed alot in South Florida over the last 30 years.Mainly because of skyrocketing property taxes, high homeowners insurance rates and high auto insurance rates.Be different if we lived up in Northern Florida near the state line we stay put. It's just getting to damn expensive to live down here.Put it this way I own my house and with what I have to put away every month to cover my yearly property taxes and property insurance I might as well have a damn mortgage payment.
Where are you wanting to move to?
Sorry I just relized you asked where we were wanting to move and not why.
We are not really set on one particular place yet.We have family that just moved to Tennessee and we have other family that moved to South Carolina so those maybe area's of interest.

Too bad you didnt get to head out there. It was a blast for sure, lots of boobs and beer. Unfortunately, I tore 3 cv boots, and my buddy broke his u-joint, Costa Del mars, and my trailer tongue got messed up, so it was an expensive weekend. But the wet-t-shit contests on every hour defin. made up for it. lol
The next one is in August. ITs not quite as big, but there are still 15-20,000 people.
I think we are going to C&R in 2 weeks. I am going but I dont think my bike is going, I will prop be driving my girlfriends honda :tape:
Thats sucks that you tore 3 CV boots.Did read correctly in the other thread that you tore the boots just going back and forth from the mud pit to the camp??I hope you can figure out why thats happening.

I am going with a bunch of people but we arent gettting there until late friday night. I'm not taking my sportsman this time because I still have 2 broken axles up front and a torn boot in the rear. I will be riding an 05 red sportsman 400. Let me know if your going.:tea:
Heading over to pick up the boot kit today and going to try and get it done today. It's looks easy enough just my time changing one.
As of now I have things apart and am ready to do the boot change but
i've hit a little roadblock and cant figure out how to get the old boot off the axle and the new one on,posted a thread for help in the polaris section, hope someone chimes in.
It looks like a "no go" for me unless I can figure out how to get the old boot off the axle and the new one on.It's all apart and I cant figure out what the heck I'm suposse to do next,am I suposse to seperate the cv joint??if so I need to learn how to and fast because i've never done it before.

Is the old boot slid back so you can see in there? If so you can clean up some of the grease and should be able to see a circlip in there. I used a set of baby sized needle nose to expand the clip and the axle just slid out. Put new boot on and tap the axle back in untill the clip grabs it. Put some new grease and clamp her on. Then again mines an antique LOl.

Thats a smart way to look at it for yourself. For us(me & wife) we have to watch the real estate market it hasnt fully bottomed out yet so I think were down here for at least another 10 years before we sell or maybe longer. We have a nice place so we really dont need to go anywhere fast or sell in a big hurry.

Has anyone ever ridden at Cook an Brown/??
What exactly is that? Is it a place to ride or the name of a band.
mudsportsman05
03-01-2008, 07:12 PM
lol its the name of a place to ride
It if about 4 min off of Bermont Road. It is a lot of mud and water from what I have heard.
about 4 min off of Bermont Road
Is that near where you live??
mudsportsman05
03-02-2008, 01:22 PM
well not really. Its like 45min from my house, but it is the closest riding area to my house.
Is it a legal public place to ride or is private property where you pay to ride for the day/weekend?
mudsportsman05
03-02-2008, 04:37 PM
I heard it is just a public place to ride. Free of charge which is the best part. I may go down there on spring break to check it out.
What dates is spring break at the college you attend ??
The college I work at is closed this coming week for spring break.
mudsportsman05
03-02-2008, 06:46 PM
It is March 10-March 15. Not this week but the week after.
What school do you teach at? FAU?
I dont teach I run shipping and recieving for BCC on the north campus in Coconut Creek, thats near Pompano Beach. Our central campus in Davie has a joint venture going on with FAU.Funny thing is live in west Davie but would rather commute 30 minuets to work in Coconut Creek because the north campus in so nice and mellow compared to central campus.

Broward?
I actually have a friend that goes to USF now and she went to BCC. Small world. lol Do you like what you do there?
Yeah Broward County. Not a bad place to work the job is pretty easy and I run my own department so I am my own boss. They benefits are unbeatable and the pay is pretty fair.I've got 20 years in with the state college so at this point i'm going for the full 30 years of service so I can retire and collect 100% of my retiement benefits I've got comming from BCC and i'll be able to collect full benefits the moment I retire. It's not a bad deal if you play your cards right, thats why i'm very thankful I fell into a good state job.

Turk, Just curious do you know if you have to stay at the same school to earn your retirement in 30yrs. or can you transfer schools?
I think if I stay within the state of florida college system I can take my time with me,have to check on that to be 100% sure.
mudsportsman05
03-04-2008, 10:50 PM
alright cool thanks.
SO your 100% sure it doesn't transfer states?
No as far as I know it is not transferable to other state college systems.

Thank you sir for that info.
So do you still think your going to make the Cinco De Mayo event?
Yes I'm still planning on going.
What days are you going to go.I'd like to do friday & saturday.
mudsportsman05
03-05-2008, 11:04 AM
That is the weekend after my finals. So as long as I dont have a final on friday we will hopfully be there early on Friday and then be there all weekend. If not we will be there afternoon on Friday.
All good then.Gonna try to have my HC kit installed by then, maybe.Still have your cell # let me know if you need mine again.
mudsportsman05
03-05-2008, 01:45 PM
Nice. Hopefully you get it installed. I am hoping to have my bike ready but I have my doubts. If I dont I will have to take the stock bike. I am wainting on my tax money so i can get some axles.
Yeah be nice to have the HC on and dialed in but if not no big deal, stock is doing just fine right for now,no complaints with it.Plus I still need to order a maroon epi spring to go with the HC kit & I want to put on a new polaris belt as well with the HC install.

florida is a really nice place.......to party!!!
lol, I agree 100%.
Most of our events to ride down here are like Mardi Gras and involve an awful lot of drinking. We go out and ride for a while, and then we sit back drink some beers and watch other people tear up their shit.

Sounds like we're all gonna get along just fine at cinco de mayo.
Hey mudsportsman05 I see l-cross has a no bottles/glass rule?? Does that mean we can only bring in canned beer?? Do you know anything about that?? I was on thier website reading the rules section and it mentions no bottles/glass containers.
mudsportsman05
03-07-2008, 04:00 PM
Yea, No Bottles. C&R is the exact same, no bottles. Yea only canned beer. And if you bring any liquor it has to be put into something else thats not glass.
Ok good thanks for clearing that up for me.I have no problems at all with the no bottle/glass rule just want to know whats up ahead of time.
mudsportsman05
03-07-2008, 04:11 PM
Yea, and they actually really enforce the rule. They check coolers when you get to the gates. Thats about the only thing they are really strict on, except obviously on guns and stuff.
Ok no problem all is good. Thanks for the container info,i'm a first-timer going there and want to respect and follow the propety owners rules.

03-07-2008, 07:23 PM
No prob. IS your bike snorkeled?
No i'm not snorkeld so i wont be going deeper than my stock snorkels.
I'm still considering if I'm going to buy all the parts & supplies to snorkel it or if I'm going to go with the triangle kit.I'm still undecided on if I want the snorkels pipes on the front rack of if i'm going to go with an inside the pod type of snorkel kit.So as of right now I dont think i'll be snorkeled for the cinco de mayo run.
mudsportsman05
03-08-2008, 05:52 PM
I recommend in the pod. I am hoping to redo mine, and if I do that where I will be putting mine.
Yeah I'm pretty much sold on the triangle kit.
Rebel64
03-09-2008, 04:51 AM
It even comes with a couple of the Triangle logo stickers! :)
How did you get the triangle shirts? You buy them seperate? Did'nt you mention something in the "why ups sucks" thread about tracking the shirts?
Rebel64
03-09-2008, 05:13 AM
Well they forgot to include the slit tubing that goes on after the plastics are cut out, (windshield washer tubing...no big deal), and when Jake called me back I got him to send me more of the stickers. The next day I was thinking of their tshirts so I called them back and asked Sue about them and she told me that she has a few of them, so I got one for free and paid for a 2nd one.
I don't know if that was a special favor or not...kinda surprised me that they would give (and sell) them to folks that aren't on their crew.
They sound like some really nice folks there.Look foward to doing business with them when the time comes.
Rebel64
03-09-2008, 05:21 AM
They really are. Sue is always helpful, and just the one time I spoke to Jake he was very interested in what my thoughts were on the kit and with the instructional dvd that came in the package.
Very good info to know ahead of time. That'll be my next mod purchase once I get the HC kit and get it installed.

..... ooohhh yea but still i think you could fit more in a bottle than a flask???
mudsportsman05
03-12-2008, 03:18 PM
^^^ O definitely. WE ussually do a mixture of both. We ussually bring the beer in cans, and the liquor in 2 flasks and the rest in water bottles. And a bag full of beads.
Hey how about using 2 liter soda bottles?? bigger and they can hold more joy juice!!
Hey mudsportsman I hope it's not a big deal that my machine might not be snorkeled in time for the may event.I hope I can still hang/ride and keep up with you guys...haha i'm just being funny.
mudsportsman05
03-12-2008, 05:34 PM
lol as you said the bigger the bottles the more the content.
As for not being snorkeled dont worry about it, you should be fine. If its to deep you can always just watch for a minute. This place is diff. then C&R. The mudholes arent as big so you should be fine.

i hope there soo deep ill lose something...
If its to deep you can always just watch for a minute.
Well i'll make sure i'm water tight with everything so I can go deep as my factory snorkels will allow me to,that would be just below on the gas tank where the polaris stickers are, thats where the air intake and belt housing exausts are...does that sound about right to you?? One thing i'll do for sure is at least snorkel my radiator overflow tube, are there any other of the smaller vent lines I need to put into the pod?? like the crab vent tube?? and isnt there a vent tube going into the frame I need to put in the pod also?? any advice you can give me now will help me more prepared for May.
mudsportsman05
03-13-2008, 06:55 PM
Yea the carb overflow tube I would defin. put into the pod, I think that one runs in to the frame. Just pull it out and put an extension on it.
Your front and rear diff. vent lines need to be put into the pod as well.
I think thats all of them.
I would allso do the overflow as you said.
Sticker height seems about right to me you'll just have to watch it and see how its doing.
I can't wait for May!!
Yeah i'm pretty excited for may as well. This is my first time going to any of these places. The only place i've ridden since I got the popo 2 years ago is on public land.
mudsportsman05
03-14-2008, 12:22 PM
Is there a lot of mud and water where you ride or is it just trails?
A lot of mud and water. If it's rains a lot than where I ride then its mostly under water, when it's dry than much less mud and water and just flat dry everglades.

WE HAVE AN EVENT IN FL PLEASE COME HELP OUT !!!
Okay everone. We did this last year for charity and had a BLAST!!!! SO this year since our main charity we are working on is the "Helping The Heroes" Foundation and our goal is $20,000.00 for them with the 2009 calendar sales. We have put a little twist in it.
We will be visiting bases in the Southeast to hand out 1000 calendars for the troops that are being deployed. We already have the okay for two in Florida and I am working on others in Georgia and Hopefully Texas or LA. We thought that we would take 100% of the proceeds from our ANNUAL MUD VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY and buy calling cards to attach to these calendars. This way they can call home! So that is what we are gonna do. If you were able to come last year it was a great turnout and we raised almost $2k
this year is even better. I have all the info and rules up on our site. Let me know if you have any questions.
