View Full Version : Another Snorkle Question

I'm getting the stuff together to snorkle my 'new to me' popo 700 carb.
I'm using 1 1/2" spa hose under the plastic and pvc from the racks up.:thumb:

My question is.....will one 1 1/2" spa hose be enough for the air intake or am I going to need a two??? I know on my Rancher ( 350 ), 1 - 1 1/2" spa hose was enough but now I've doubled the engine size. If I run two, am I going to have to re-jet?

I'd really like to do a neat job on the cutting, and it would be nice to make all the holes at once.

Thanks for the help.

I'm sure Eric (Polaris700) will help you out, he had the same machine I think.

Are you doing a single nut buster in front of the seat for the air or are you running it to the front rack?

LOL. No, I want to have the bracket for the rad re-locate to have a plate ( for lack of a better word ) that will hold all the snorkle tubes straight and in line just behind the front rack. The snorkle tips will be just a little higher than the rad, in front of the head light. I want mine to be a little more verticle than yours ( maybe close to 45 ) with the fan on the underside. This will make the third headlight useless, but I can live with that.

Sorry for the poor description, I've got it drawn up here and I like it, but just can't seem to describe it very well. LOL

I think you will need TWO 1.5's. i know for a fact on my 04.5 700 i HAD to have two of them and think it still needed a little more. bigt gave a good description of how the actual size SHOULD be versus length of tube to run to front rack.
i didnt rejet but it did need it with the two on intake, imo. but if your jets are stock, they maybe alright as mine had already been rejetted due to 800 intake and 800 header, timing advance etc etc.
just my 0.02

I tried to get away with just one for air... it would start, idle. but as soon as you gave it any throttle it would spit sputter cough then die.. and thats with barely increasing throttle.

I gave a good description of that? interesting.

but yeah, you will need 2 x 1.5" hoses

Thanks Tim. Do you still think I'll need to re-jet?

it's too ahrd to say. Depending on how sharp of turns are made, how long the hose is, the couplings used, and how it comes into the front box can all affect how much air gets into the air box, so I don't know. You probably won't have to, but maybe you should. You'll just have to see once it's installed how it affects you.

so you want it too look sort of like Redchicabee's then?

Yah, more like that, only I think I'll keep the fan on the back side of the rad. Where the snorkles go above the rad, I am going to have a bracket attatched to the rad bracket to hold everything nice and straight.

Kinda like this with different snorkles. Haha, even found a blue one!

:bump:
OK, I've been looking at a lot of pics of pre '05 popo's that are snorkled. Almost ALL of them have the 'single nut buster' in front of the seat.

Is there a reason for this that I am not seeing??

If thats the way I'm going to have to do it, I guess from what you guys are telling me is that mine will be a 'double nut buster' ???

Now I'm confused:frusty:

Sorry guys, little more help please :ear:

I had two 1.5" hoses at the front of the front rack, with a stock motor and it was not enough. I now have 1, 2" nut buster and all is good. Also the clucth intake is a 2" nut buster. That's JW Otwell on the blue Polaris. If you notice, he has a nut buster for the air intake also. The other two are for the clutch. I figured as long as I will have the nut buster for the carb I might as well get the clutch the most air I can also, so that's why I have two nut busters. My clutch exhaust is on the left fender about in the same place as pictured above on JW's bike, just not as tall.

if you do the nut buster, you only need one because it is short enough to get away with just one. I am changing mine, I hate the nut buster personally...
