I washed my moter down with break cleaner to get all the crudd off the other day & tonight when i fire it up it leaks BAD at the O gasket on the Y pipe.
Its not just smoke like i first thaught. You can hear & see it blowing out.
I would have hit it with some over spray when i did the front of the moter, could it dammage the gasket?

:shocked:I have heard the 600 and 700's are hard on the gasket there. I havent had any problems with mine though.

i wouldnt think it would but those gaskets are organic. they are not all metal. so i could see where some heavy solvents such as brake cleaner would eat them away.
i use purple power or any type of cheap off name degreaser to clean my bike. walmart sells some of their brand in a gallon jug for like 5.99 and i usualy buy that. works great. and it does wonders to get dried mud and stains off the tires and hoses.

I have to pass the dealers shop for my ride on the weekend. I might just pick one up & swap it out before i ride.
I will play with the springs as well. Maby i can tighten them up some & help it seal better.

I fired it up quick tonight & it looks to be much better than last night after i adjusted that rubber pipe holder.
I might need a new gasket but it should be ok to get me through the weekend.

New springs and a new donut make sure that the donut sits tight on the Y pipe, if you were running it blown out and the pipe rattling around, the manifold gets a little pounded and the seat the donut sits into on the pipe gets egg shaped, make sure the manifold ts not cracked in the center between where the 2 go into one. My 02 was cracked there. Have you thought about putting the 800 header on?

I welded it up last fall when it cracked it is still holding up. I will look into gasket & springs. They cant be that much
I have a full MBRP Power Tec-4 stainless header system but it needs some welding to make it fit properly. I got it for $50 because one bend is out of wack a bit. It looks just like the 2 peace 800 pipes.

Is a 800 header really worth it? How common is the 700 "Y" to crack?

Is a 800 header really worth it? How common is the 700 "Y" to crack?Yes, I put it on my 02 700 and a dynojet kit and K&N a noticable difference. I put the header on my 02 700 b/c it was cheaper for me to buy the 800 header with all the heat shealds than to get a new Y with 2 new springs and a donut. It is very common for them to crack especially if you are in the H2O alot.

Status: offline True they do run hot but i've had a couple if instances where my '03 ran hotter than normal. The first was the intake boot between the carb and head. There was a crack letting extra air in causing the engine to run lean and therefore hot. The second was the exhaust "donut" gasket (from exhaust "Y" manifold to exhaust pipe) had worn out. Not really sure why this really made it hotter but it was very hot. The only thing I could see was that the backpressure was affected causing the engine to run lean again. The engine would also run bad, no power and would nearly die in water. The exhaust gasket is available from any parts store for $5-6. A GM part #. If you need it I can look it up.
