Those HID's are nuts!! We use them on the Loaders at work. Turns night into day fosho!!

Pretty inexpensive mod also. Only $66 for the 10,000K's.

hampster_rancher
07-02-2008, 07:05 PM
I always thought they were expensive???
Did you have to wire in a balast for each light??

And.....Where'd ya get 'em??

Rebel64
07-02-2008, 07:09 PM
Yeah I did too until I started reading up on them.
And yes, they have a ballast (sealed & waterproof) for each bulb.
I'll take more pics after I finish the project up.

I got them from a dealer on ebay by the name of flashplus.
Shipped out of Beijing, and they were here in less than a week via DHL.

I'd like to see some pics when you get them up. See if the lights are the same as mine.

10-4, you know I'll get them up.
....might as well get off my butt and get to work, eh? ;)

That's bad ass Mark. I didn't know there was a ballast for them, I always wondered how the puny charging system on these quads handled the extra load of the HID lights, but I guess now I know. I might have to check into a set of those for Amy's bike. You couldn't find an ebay dealer any farther away than Beijing huh ???lol, lol.

Rebel64
07-02-2008, 09:08 PM
LOL Lee! Actually the main dealer www.vvme.com (http://www.vvme.com) is out of Delaware and I had no idea at the time that they outsource to Beijing, but it still worked out good.
You and Amy do a lot of night riding?

4300k is the best temperature range for the human eye after that you can no longer see the brighter light at the higher temps. They just turn different colors of something like that. I know mine are bright as shit, all you need is a 880/881 bulb or I no the rzr are. Just cut the stock plug off and attach there plug, to plug the stock harness wire that used to run to the bulbs into the ballast.

Rebel64
07-02-2008, 09:26 PM
Yep I got the 880 bulb, but didn't know about what the human eye can see as far as brightness.
Guess I'll just blind the bunnies with the 10,000's, along with sending them into epileptic seizures from the LEDs. ;)

Dirtbmw20
07-02-2008, 09:27 PM
Mark, No not really but when we DO go night riding, the lights ain't worth a crap, especially since you can't use the top center light, maybe some HID's will make up for not having the center light. I went and checked that ebay dealer and he has a butt load of lights out there but none for a Polaris.

Rebel64
07-02-2008, 09:32 PM
Lee, that vendor (flashplus) has them all.
All you need to do is tell them what size and color temp you want after you hit the 'buy now' option.
The 880 bulb is the most popular, but the 893 is also out there and it's an angled output rather than straight.

They will not melt the headlight plastic and they use less power than halogens after they warm up.

I'm sure you could, but they are not near as bright as the HID's.

Looks killer Mark!

have you tried the system fully loaded yet------ how the stator handles the load at night with the sound system?
The specs on their page shows a max draw of 8 amps---anyone know what the stockers draw on low?

Also---where are you gonna mount the ballasts?----I don't think they will like water too much LOL!

AND--- if you decide to mount them far from the bulbs, will the existing wire handle the load?

I know on mine at night after running with the lights on--just the low beams---I can feel a bit of warmth when my hand rides against the switch pod.

Now if I could only find some brighter reverse lights! I have mine rigged thru relays to light when I shift into reverse [and overide reverse]

Thanks George!
I'll finish wiring up this evening and test it all out.
I got the ballasts mounted up in the corners of the box, but they're supposed to be waterproof---so they say---we'll see.

What size buld would need to be used on an 01 Popo 500 and how do they attach to the light housing? Are they the same as stock or do you have to modify them?

hampster_rancher
07-04-2008, 09:43 AM
Thats freakin' awsome!!!!

So you just splice into the stock wires and the new bulbs fit right in the housings??

Keep us posted on the waterproof ness. I think I want these, but I don't have the front box to hide the ballasts in. I'll have to get creative.

I'm not sure what size bulb goes into an 01. If it takes the same bulb as my 07, then you need an 880 or 893.

I cut the plug off of the factory lighting harness and soldered the wires into the leads coming off the ballast. The other lead coming off the ballast goes right to the new bulbs. (hope that made sense)

I liquid taped all of the connectors just for more insurance, but the few guys that I know of that are running this same setup haven't had any problems with the ballasts failing due to water. They ride at Crosby if that tells you anything about their play area!

I went to install the lights, and one of them doesn't work. flashplus will replace the bulb, but they expect me to pay 25 dollars for shipping.

I guess it's just my luck that I'm the one that gets screwed. again.

Will this work on the Rincon??? Are the Ballast waterproof??? How hard is it to install??? Will the light houseing still be water tight???

What size do I need. Should I go with the 8000k in 880?

Thanks in advance for the help. I have been looking for something new to buy for awhile haha.

BIG_T
07-16-2008, 10:35 PM
i don't know what bulb a honda takes, but i wouldn't bet that it's the same.
If you get the right bulb, it will still be waterproof, and the ballasts are supposed to be, but i haven't tested them.

Jonathan
07-16-2008, 11:14 PM
Ok, someone get back to me on the right bulb size for the Rincon and where the hell would you mount the Ballast on a Rincon. The PoPo has the storage on the front. If I mount then under the front fender somewhere I think it would be too close to the Rad. Those things have got to stay under 110 degrees or something like that.

dcfox
07-16-2008, 11:19 PM
Jonathan...could you put them in the front side storage box(under the shifter...I never know what that useless box is called.lol)

Jonathan
07-16-2008, 11:31 PM
I could but the site says to put them where they can get constant air over them. I put a bottle of water in that side box one day and when I went to get it is was too hot to even drink. I think that compartment would be well over the 110 mark.

My friend from work put the kit from flashpoint on his crotch rocket. They sent him the wrong bulb, and one defective bulb, and made him pay to get a new bulb. Anyway, here are before and after pics.
