Anyone know if the 6 gal tank from the X2's will fit in a standard bike? i.e. tank from 800 X2 to '06 800 EFI????

unless they did something different with the front of the bikes i would think it would. you would have to call polaris i guess.

One thing that sucks, is the fuel pump & tank is one complete assembly. You cannot just replace the tank. I bet that's a few bucks!!

yeah. its not a complete assembly, polaris just sells it that way. you can replace just the pump if it goes bad.

You can swap the fuel pump between tanks if you have to replace the tank, but the X2 and SPMN don't use the same pump assembly.
I don't think the tanks are interchangeable, the frame rails are a bit different and where everything sits is likely to interfere with things.
Polaris is not in the habit of making new parts unless they need to, so the fact that they have different fuel tanks most likely means they won't fit.

I will have a look at my buddy's X2 on the weekend. To bad if the tank can't be swapped. Doesn't make sense that you have a 4 gal tank on an 800 Sp (or any of them at that rate). Would be nice to be able to go 160Km (100 miles) on a tank of gas.

buy one of those kolpin external cans. i hear they do pretty good.
ive also thought about removing the rear storage box and adding a secondary fuel tank.
that box is worthless for anything but getting tools rusty and holding extra muddy water.
I never use my rear storage box,it just takes up space and yeah good for getting tools rusty.

the only thing mines doing now is holding a waterproof container with a 400w amp for my stereo.
Yeah you cant put anything in there unless it's in something watetproof.

I just thought that with a larger tank there would be no need to carry extra gas.
I wish my 500 came with a 6 gallon tank. How much more weight does 2 gallons of gas add ??

how can gas be lighter than water?

just found this.
Water
# Weight: 62.416 pounds per cubic foot at 32°F
# Weight: 61.998 pounds per cubic foot at 100°F
# Weight: 8.33 pounds/gallon, 0.036 pounds/cubic inch
Gasoline
the typical weight of gasoline at 72 degrees F is around 6.25 lbs per gallon.
As it gets cooler it becomes more dense and thus weighs more. and above this temperature its less dense and a gallon weighs less.

must be all the oil in the gas that makes it lighter.

That water weight is US gallons as well. In Canada our gallon is larger thus the weight is 10 lbs.
