I've had one for the last few months.I'm not to sure on the year but i'd say 03-04.It belongs to my cousin and he's been pretty gentle on it over the years, never taken in the mud only trail driven and he's kept up on the routine maintenence over the years. There is a chance he may sell it to me and I wanted to know what the yamaha guys think about this machine. My opinion of this machine so far is thats it's a pretty darn good machine and i'll scoop it up the second it's offered to me.I'm gonna buy it for the wife to ride becuase it's all stock just like she wants and it's a good machine for her to start with for her first qaud.

i had a 02, i loved it, it had good power, and a decent ride. i wish i still had mine. the only real problem with the grizzly is that it has weak axles on it. keep the tires around a 26" and something light. buy it. thats what i say. great quad for work too. imo

Right now it's on stock wheels with 25" ITP MS 589's.If I get to buy it it'll stay on the stock wheels with the 589's until the tires wear out...if the 589's ever wear out.I read somewhere that these tires wear like iron and so far I find this to be true about these tires.I gone over the machine with a fine tooth comb and it's pretty solid not to mention pretty fast for a single cylinder big bore.

My buddy just bought an 04 I think it is... He loves his... Biggest bike he has had.. his other was a 350 rancher i think.. 350 honda anyways.

I really like the machine a lot and the fact that I know the entire history of the machine just makes it even better.

My buddy just bought an 04 I think it is

Do you happen to know what he paid for it? I've done my homework and looked up the bluebook value but i'm curious what your friend paid for his.I think i'm going to make carries cousin an offer and want to make a fair/reasonable offer.I'll look up the hours and miles in a moment.

jasonch

let me know, ill tell ya what i paid for mine, and sold it for

torkmonster
07-27-2008, 10:14 PM
Yeah , i'd have to ask him turk..Ill try to get a hold of him... I thought he paid a decent price for it.. a lil bit high but then again I dont really know what they go for..
Only reason I thought it was a little high was you could tell it had been rode hard and I KNEW that thefront right axle was a little worse for wear and sure enough bout his 4th ride o it the axle came out of the cup!! I told him to look into it!!! lol!
But other than that it is a pretty sound bike and does like you said have some power to be the single cylinder.... That thing will go through some stuff!!! He rides mainly ALL water and is snorking it or has it done this weekend..
I'll get ahold of him and ask though for ya'...

I had a 06 just traded it off great speed and take off only thing was i broke 3 axles jumping it and the when not breaken em they kept pulling out of pumkin but i was very rough on it so really depends on whos riden it !

Turk

It's got

414 hours

2344 miles

all stock except the 25" 589's and a warn winch, nothing but trail driven.I dont even think my cousin took it through puddles.

I agree I jumped it few times and so has my wife and we both agree it's a hard landing. We both jump the SP 500 on a very small hill in our yard and there is no competition when it comes to the landing. The popo lands and squats like a monster truck. The grizz lands very hard and blunt and has no rebound what so ever, not that the popo doesnt have any rebound but it absorbs the impact just right.

You will enjoy the power thet for sure, mine had the power, unlike this new Rincon i just got ! Not real happy about power, but speed is unreal 72 mph! what year is that Grizzly ?

jasonch
07-28-2008, 10:18 PM
mine was an 02, 1300 miles, 260 hrs, green like that one, winch 27 inch 589's on stock. i sold it for 3200, i wish i had it back. it was a good quad, lots of torque, imo. i love climbing hills on it. anyway, maybe everyones info will help you out. the axles are the only down side to this quad, imo. great workhorse!

I love my new Rincon but not the power the Grizzly had, but my Rincon is faster, Far as the creek goes Rincon hands down no darn belt to worry about alos when the Grizzly tail pipe is under water it killed out Rincon will idle under water Rincon rides better smoooth. Axle system much better on my Rincon. So my choice Rincon !!

jasonch
07-29-2008, 01:50 PM
def. the rincon when it comes to water, but i like the torque of the grizz for the trail, also to work off of. jmo

you might also check around, like ebay, or some local shops to see what they are going for else where, but i didnt sell for 02 for much less than that, i got 3800 out of it, it was in great shape as well.

Turk
07-30-2008, 09:41 AM
He doesnt want to sell it but I know he's going to need the money in the near future so I'm hoping he will change his mind.

08-01-2008, 07:35 PM
What size tires are those Turk?? They look small.

Turk
08-01-2008, 07:51 PM
The grizz has 25" 598's and they are almost as old as the bike.Yeah they do look small.

torkmonster
08-01-2008, 09:21 PM
Looks good Turk, like it's been well taken care of... I like the looks of it better with those 589's.. Most grizz's I see have mudlites on it.. it is nice to see it with something else!!! and there isnt anything wrong with them being 25"!!! Robs less power....Less mass to turn = Less stress on parts!!!

850PoPo
08-02-2008, 03:41 AM
Thats why there has been no problem with axles yet i bet . Probally why mine had so much trouble 27" ITP XTR'S i had!

Turk
08-03-2008, 02:17 PM
Confirmed today that is a 2003 the blue book value is $3900.00.I think i'm going to make an offer of $3400.00 and feel the waters from there. Also found that he is interesting in selling it.

Turk

Yeah I agree with ya on that. The 25" 589's are going to stay on it if I get because it's going to be the wife's machine and she likes it just the way it is.

Turk

So what is the other one??? I thought you was pretty set on this one!!! lol

I was dead set on the grizzly but there is a "title" issue, his soon to be ex-wife has the title...so no title no sale. The other one I'm intersted in is a 05 SP700 but I think the person wants a little to much for it but i'm going to look into anyhow.I'm in no hurry.

torkmonster
08-05-2008, 07:30 AM
Cool man, the performance you would get ut of the 700 would be far better than the Grizzly.. Plus you are use to the Polaris with the 500 you already have....
I don't blame you a bit on the title issue.. I wouldn't be getting it either like that if it was me...
The Grizz's are a good bike, but IMO if it was me I would go with the 700. Again JMO
