How much do you get burned for duty and tax on stuff that is shipped over the border. I think there is a guy on this site that lives real close to the border. Would it be cost effective to ship it there(this side of the border) and to resend it out. Just thinking out loud.

dont cost me squat because most of my family is American so my aunt lives about 10 minutes away, she has become my recieving house for ebay and ATV accessories for a while now but shes okay with it. I just drive home with it.

Ive bought some stuff from the states, and duty is not bad. If you can get it sent USPS you pretty much pay the GST on its canadian value. UPS on the other hand, charges a HUGE brokerage fee. I bought a 47 dollar part last week, and the duty on it was less than 5 bucks, but UPS charges a 29.95 "brokeragee fee".

I usually talk to seller and get it shipped USPS when possible, as Im not usually in a huge rush to get it.

Most things are duty free for bikes/atv's etc. if made in USA and bringing into Canada. You will pay GST on the value. I was in PA last month and bought over $800 in Harley chrome - declared it at the border knowing I was over the $500 limit and they said no problem. Guess they felt the $18 wasn't worth their time in paperwork. The can tell when you b.s. them, so best come close to what you have and most of the time it's no issue. YES - NEVER use UPS, they charge to the limit and the prices are based on a sliding scale on value, plus their fees for clearing and handling. USPS is great if you have time and Canada Post will charge a $5 fee for handling and then the 6% GST - a bargain.

I own a shipping company and advise everyone and tell everyone that
