This past weekend we came upon a very stuck Polaris 800. It took 3 ATV's (my Grizz 700 included), his winch and his quad running WOT to get him out. We broke two recovery straps and one winch (not mine). We also about pulled down a 25' tree trying to get this 850 lbs beast out of the mud. The whole ordeal took about 5 hours (1.75 hours once the Grizz got there). This was serious muck (note the lack of standing water).

At one point we had two winches and three ATVs pulling and it moved 1/2 inch! Ultimately winching it over a tree to lift the front end allowed three of us to then pull him out.

He had 27" XTRs on 14" rims but that didn't help a bit. I am not too sure about that 4wd system either as he was usually only spinning 2 or 3 wheels (diff lock???). He also killed his battery and we had to swap out one with someone else and then jump start his later.

I would say that is stuck....Polaris has to lead the way though....:D

Eric can tell a good story of being stuck in mud like that. 3 of us with winches didn't budge him more than a foot in the hole.

Nice stuck you got there.

This ones a little farther from the camera, it was on our first day at the 06 mud nats and where we first met the Bama Boggers (great bunch of guys too) and 2 of them got sooooo stuck in the mud that it took 7 winches to pull them out along with guys pushin the machines. In the end, one of them had cracked his motor case, I think the other had a couple broke axles and 1 broken winch cable and snatch block on the same cable.

If you look close enough, you should be able to count all the cables LOL

i was in a mud hole just recently, the mud looks to be the same, really thick and gross. anyway, my incline to get out was way less but i was by myself, need to replace gears in my winch again lol.

those mud holes that have always been wet then dry up a little are nasty. great pics.

That is a pretty bad stuck photo right there. I have had my Rincon in stuff similar to that and it took 5 wheelers to get me out. 3 winches and 2 tow straps. It was just gooey slimy mud that caked up my tires in no time. I was trying to go through about a 50 stretch of it wide open throttle and I only made it about 10 feet.:biggrin1: Damn i wish i had a photo of it.LOL

I don't think we would have left any of ours overnight before getting them out.

That doesn't look too bad. But I guess it's true...........It's always worse than it looks!

I have sworn NEVER to go into that concrete looking chit again!

Can't roll enough to get the tires to bite, it will DESTROY axles,belts and as was mentioned before-- engine cases {most likely caused by someone with a BIG throttle thumb :bounce:}

Then comes the clean out/up factor of having to just about submerge the machine in a pond to get it where ya can ride----IF ya don't overheat getting there!{for those of us WITHOUT re-located radiators LOL}

I realise most of us know this ---BUT :tongue1:.....when stuck like that, winching foreward is as usless as boobs on a n....er...a straight axle rear!

He shoulda been yanked out backwards.....all winching foreward does is plow up mudd against the front and will shell the winch gears!

My pic of shame from a couple years back {improper winch use included!}...... rolled up a 7' log under the muck and couldn't get over it.....I'll take it soupy ANYTIME!

Yeah I didn't want to leave it there that night but,, it got REALLY dark Really quick and it is on private property way out and no one else was gonna be as crazy as we were to go out there that day...
but as in pullin from behind we did figure out it was sticking me worse plus the angle of it there was a slight incline the a little down to where they could get some grip so it was just pulling me WAY down!!!!
And from this pic you can kinda see there wasn't nowhere else from behind for anyone to pull... it looks wet from that pic butthats on top... it was some muck!!!! I got some different tires on it now and am LOOKING for some kind of SNORKEL that I HOPEFULLY wont have to CUT into the AIR BOX???? got rid ofthe box too... looking for a smaller one...
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc57/ab_towboat/Suckedin.jpg
We ended up after workin it for awhile got a small tree under the tire to get some grip... I'll definantly get me a shovel for sure.... it was pourin' rain when we were tryin to get it out the night before two of 'em got left there for the rest of the night...
Oh yeah i did replace belt right after that... bout burnt all the way up... that night we went to the house not far from there on same property..... but BELIEVE me I did NOT want to leave it in the mud!!!!!

After a few muddy situations, my team of riders also invested in a MILITARY shovel..
By buddy has POPO 700 TWIN and that sucker aint movin once it sinks in there..The last time he got stuck it took about 6 different Bikes(all Big Boys 500-and up)to get him out..
A good two hours of down-time...LOL

p.s( the 3000 lbs winch he had wouldn't even budge..)

torkmonster
12-11-2007, 07:32 PM
Yeah i got a 2.5 WARN winch and it didn't do much of anything by itself.... Thats probably the worst I've been stuck in the since I couldn't get myself out... It was sucked in and there was no throwin' it around to even try to get me out...

You guyz are funnee :pound:

I am "slowly" learning to avod that concrete looking chit.....I have no fear of rolling my machine to get bite and get out but that muck/gumbo/ etc...usually ends up just high centering your machine and there is not enough water to churn up to get a good slurry going.....all you end up doing is plowing up and packing the mudd and not getting it loosend up.

I have seen too many people try and over power it by excessive use of the throttle and in most cases all that results in is a shelled eng/tranny etc.... and an abrut and costly end to your day!

I ain't skeered ....but I ain't a foolish as I used to be!

Rebel64
12-14-2007, 06:54 AM

Yes it came out forward. And thenn I drove my 800 into and rolled it. As it was going over I stuck my arm out and went down with the ship. Winched mine out Then my Buddy Boyd tryed it anf didn't do much better. When mine rolled everone was trying to get it up right and got no pictures.

Rincon1906
12-16-2007, 01:22 AM
The reason I was stuck so long is because we only had 2 winches and both broke then it ran out of gas and finally some guy came by on a beater came by. He lifted his gas tank off and brought to mine and poured some in and we got another winch and got it out to just get it stuck agin and had to winch agin. Man I was pissed I always help people out and for 4 hours people just drove by and offered no help.

Granted your pics are quite buried--BUT that shouldn't stop people from at least offering SOMETHING!---extra hands, cold refreshment, or even a few lines of wit to take the edge off the situation :bounce:

We have spent at least an hour many times helping others....the favor does come full circle!

Hell we will be laughing our azzs off at you while I'm getting the straps out :tongue1:

Holy crap Rincon, to say that was quite the mess you were in would be a total understatement. That's too bad that you didn't get more help than just the one guy. I can't imagine not offering to help someone out if they were in trouble.

You will enjoy Mud Nats IMO it gets better every year. In that picture you had to cross stuff like that to get back to camp, but now they have decent roads going everywhere and all you have to do is turn off one if you want to get muddy. I hope to make it this year with my new toy.

That's good to hear Rincon. I'm not sure where I'll be camping at though at this time. I was looking at the map and want to stay the furthest away from all the action, such as in the western part of the park, but now that will depend on if I get accepted to join a certain bog team, so if that happens I'll be pitching the tent with them.

And man, that is one bad ass lookin SXS you got!! Hope you can make it down for sure.

You have NO IDEA brother LOL, just ask Dozer dude. He and his bamma boggers (at that time) took me and Souther Test Pilot for a night ride, I think we headed out at around 7 or 8pm. We had one of the boggers piggybackin another guys machine around for at least 2 hours while we were lost, and all of us were runnin hot, and EVERYONE we stopped to talk to was just as lost as us LOL. Hell we didnt get back to the camp until around 4am. I figured it was a great time to hit the bike wash, still waited in line for 45 minutes, and there was even one guy sleeping in line on his ATV so the line just ended up quietly going around him :D

Good times though, seriously good times, I'll remember that ride forever, thanks Steve (Dozer)

I had my 300 Honda setup with true dual snorkels, no airbox, and K&N filters on top of the snorkels and no airbox. I now use the two K&N's up top, with a 2-1.5" into 1-2" snorkel ran to the airbox with a 3rd K&N inside the airbox!! They don't restrict the flow as much as you would think. pics in link below
