So far the damage is...:crutch:

Water pump impeller & cover
Belt
4 gears that run the water pump, balancer & what ever.
& it looks like I might need crank bearings as well.

I hope that is it because im up to about $600 in parts alone
.:eek::pout::doh::mmph:

Any one got $1000 they dont need???::peace:

My little popo pulling Rubberdowns broken axle heavy ass popo out of a nasty hole.
Yep i blame it all on him. :boink:LOL Just kidding Paul.

Actually I have no idea about the gears or bearings but the pump impeller is a common popo thing & i did smoke my belt a bit pulling him out but it was not the first time. It was the 3rd or 4th time.

Sure go and RUIN your bike 3 weeks before the Kearney run that i am going to be attending you doink. HEHEHE, J/K hope ya get it all fixed up i know my worst fear is hurting the motor in any way. I know they are very expensive to fix at times.

I was going to offer up the same thing as Bigdog800efi, you let me know the part #'s and I'll see what they would cost at the dealer in NY that I get most of my parts from. I know that some things are a lot cheaper and some are about the same, so if you get me all the #,s, I'll e-mail them for a price list. Then I could either have my buddy bring them up to Kearney for you or I could ship them to you from the Falls.

Polaris700 You still got lots of goodies from the 700 you were parting out? I think everything i need is already gone from that bike, but their are a few bits i would like to have. Let me get the old girl rolling again then we can talk about the extras.

OK got some good news finally.
Only one gear that runs the water pump is worn & the dealer suggests to leave it for now & change it when it totaly goes as it will not hurt anything to run it as is.

I hope this is sound advice. I dont really have the $$ for new gears but i will spend it if i have to. He must be right.

theres no way i would put damaged parts back into the bike and "just wait" till they went out.

even if i didnt have the money right then i would just wait. ive done short cuts like that before and they ALWAYS came back to bit me in the ass. bought a motor for a dodge truck i had one time. put some new gaskets on the valve covers and oil pan and was going to put a oil pump on it but said "nahh. it was working when i pulled the engine" so i didnt. 4 months later the oil pump went out and i spun a rod bearing and had to pull the engine and rebuild it.

Riven
09-24-2007, 06:57 PM
WELL when you all put it like that it does feel kinda wrong to put them back in. Im just tring to get her back on the trail for one last ride with bmdjmd & Hillz in the next couple of weeks. If it was not for this ride i would be happy to leave it in the shop all winter.

Rubberdown
09-24-2007, 07:05 PM
This wasnt Robby telling you this was it? If it was, he does know what the hell he's talkin about, but at the same time, I'd hate for it to go for a shit mid ride, you know.

Riven
09-24-2007, 07:47 PM
Yes it was Rob, just this afternoon!

He said the only gear with any backlash is the one that runs the pump & it would be OK to run. He has no fears on running it.
He knows his stuff & i really want to trust him & not just for the $$$ savings.
He has never steered me wrong with selling me parts i dont need ever before.
I am really tempted to just run it even if it is only for this one ride. But one ride becomes all winter untill i forget about it & then BOOM.

I know what you mean. I wish it was only $300. without the gears & labour its already at $350. So it will be about $1000 or so for everything.
I hate these kind of decisions. Spend the $$$ & piss my wife off to no end but get to ride with my friends one last time for the year & hope it holds or let them down & save up some $$$ & fix it next spring.

Riven
10-18-2007, 07:42 PM
One week later & its still a pile of parts on the shop floor.:ohwell:

Dealer found a missing tooth on the timing gear. So that explains the crunching sound & the loss of top end speed. Lets just hope the valves etc. are not screwed too.:pout:

TWO more weeks have gone by & now my bike is a pile of parts sitting out in the rain out side the dealers shop:yell:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A TIMING GEAR FROM POLARIS? :noidea:
DO THEY ONLY MAKE THEM WHEN THE HAVE A NEED FOR ONE?

6 WEEKS & COUNTING. NOT HAPPY!!!::mmph::frusty:
URGE TO RIDE OVERPOWERING!
Might resort to killing things to help curb the itch :laser:

You are exactly right, I asked for a price on 700 front springs for my machine at the same Canadian dealer Riven uses and also at a U.S. dealer and the price I payed the U.S. dealer was still lower than the Canadian DEALER cost.:frusty:

choPppps
11-02-2007, 11:54 AM
Market size does not make sense when talking Polaris. You can get '08 800's for around $7000 US. Even if you include shipping to Canada your're taking around $8500.......... mine was just over $12,000 OTD in '07!!!!! You can bet Polaris Canada is not paying 9 grand to bring the bike in!!!!

Well my bike is finally mostly back in one peace but....
Now the F'n thing bogs out at about 3/4 throttle. The dealer is still looking at it but he does not really have an idea what it could be at this time.

Any one have an idea what it could be?

To re-cap. The big damage was a broken tooth on the timing gear.

OnlyPolaris
12-02-2007, 12:35 PM
could be dirty carb. plugged fuel filter. wrong jetting.

Riven
12-02-2007, 01:31 PM
I think wrong jetting is out because it was good when i took it in. As long as he has the Dial-A-Jet hooked up it should be good.
I think it might be worth a call just to check & see that he did have it all put back properly.
The bike would be about 2 jets lean without the DAJ. Would that cause the loss of top end?

Riven
12-12-2007, 01:39 PM
The dealer now wants to repalce the whole ignition system for $700 + 2.5hrs lobour. It includes CDI ststor wires etc.

Could this realy be my problem? What else should i be looking at?
I already have about $1000 in to it now & cant afford another $700 just to see if it will work.

Thanks

I would hope my dealer is good enough to find a dirty carb. He is usually a good guy to deal with & knows his stuff.

Its not fixed 100% but its rideale.:clap2:

It makes a whine sound when you start it now? Sounds like the starter is sticking on a few seconds too long. Have not had her out for a ride yet to see what is happening to the top end speed.

He actually cut me a real good deal! only $300 for new belt, water pump & cover & all the work he did do to it.

I am to call them next week. They figure they will have it fixed or at least a good idea what parts i need to order.

Well i get my bike back from the shop once again tomorrow.

Cost me another $600 to get them to fix all the crap the last place broke or hooked up wrong. All vent lines were FUBAR or missing, jetting was WAY off, car boot between carb & motor was wrecked, front end of the bike was out of alignment by 1" or more making front rack not fit. Might be more wrong but i wont know until i pick it up in the morning.

Total price to date is $3100. Im sure it higher but thats all i can remember spending.

Well my bike is home finally. It runs great! Better than it ever did. Guy at the shop told me to stop moding it as it was a real pain in the A$$ to jet properly.

Still need to give her a once over for missing bolts etc. Only found 1 so far & the bracket that holds the carb is missing from the shop that did the rebuild.
