Okay, I just put a new CV on the front of my 04.5 Sportsman 500 HO and it comes with the joint, the bands, the circlip and the package of grease. So I put pretty much the whole pack of grease into the joint and boot and now I have all kinds of new light blue CV gease all around the large end of the boot. No rips or tears, it just looks like it squished out of the boot along the seam. Maybe I didnt get it tight enough, should I pull it all apart again and replace the band with the new banding tool I got and see if I can get it even tighter????

nope.
every joint i replaced did that. but i never used the grease that came with them. i packed them slap full with as much grease as i could and put em back together. after a little riding it always squeezed out between the boot and axle past the clamps.
if it aint busted, dont worry about it.

Yep CV grease is different than regular bearing grease. Very sticky

Paul you can buy just CV grease at Parts source, it in a tube and i had it recommended to use a third of a tube.

Yep, made for CVs. Regular grease would sling out of the cup and would just stick to the inside of the boot.

A little off topic here:
I saw a neat trick to packing bearings the other day on TV (Extreme 4x4 on Spike) that I had never seen before. If you have a vaccum sealer (most hunters do) pre-grease the bearing, put in the vaccum bag and seal it. The vaccum actually pulls the grease into all the nooks of the bearing. On top of that, if you have spare bearings that you keep around the shop, they are ready to install and in a nice sealed bag. You can also write on the bag for the size and type of the bearing that's in the bag.
Just a thought...

Works good for dry underwear and socks too.

yeah. i saw that too.
pretty good idea. if you have one of those machines that is. you can keep new, pre-greased bearings in your tool box if you ever need them.

I think it was one of the best investments I ever made! If you store a lot of meat/seafood in the freezer, it keeps it about 3times longer than zip-locks. Plus what I mentioned above. That aint bad for a $200 investment...

the only way grease will come out like that is if the lip on the boot , axle or cv cup is not clean when you tighten up the clamp, can you push the boot off the cv by hand? don't go crazy trying, just see if it moves, if so , clean and put a new clamp on, if not then your good, factory polaris axles have a groove in the axle shaft for the clamp where aftermarket axles, gorilla ect, do not

Hey Scott, the boot already ripped, it must have all leaked out or something, I'll take it off and inspect it to see if the joint is still any good, I got a pair of gorillas on the way so I hope this will not be an issue with them....
