Trying to please everyone is not possible so if you don't like the plan please try to keep it to your self. If you have suggestions on what or how to do things there those a always welcome. But here it is.
WHAT : 1ST RubberDown ride.
WHEN : Monday August 24th -Sunday August 30th.
WHERE : Coal Creek Off Road Park. Tenn.
WHO : Anyone that reads this, you do not need to be a member, the more the merrier.
HOW : Don't care how you get there , JUST DO IT!
The main planned get together is planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
For those that want to ride during the week, try to hang around for the last few days. For those that want to go just for the weekend, Try to plan an extra day in front for Thursday and Friday.
I realize this will not work for everyone but hopefully this gets the most people there and we can cross paths will fellow Rubberdowners.
There are cabins available at the park. It is cheaper to rent them by the week, so if you can hook up with someone to split a week that would be cool.
Camp sites are also available.

Nice, I like the idea of Thursday to Saturday. It lets those with long trips (1000 miles for me) pull it off with just 1 week vacation time spent. Now I just have to con my pops into sliding me the keys to his $150,000 Freightliner motorhome... promise it won't get dirty dad. LOL

Yeah me too, but aluminum has dropped down to $.40/lb here and it was at $.85 this summer. Ah well, just hope fuel prices stay at a reasonable level.
Desi and I talked about this trip a while ago, and she's up for it.
So Nats is now a no-go for me...just can't swing 2 big events in the same year, but it'll be worth it to meet and ride with a bunch of Rubberdowners in TN. Lot closer to home also @ around 565 miles for us.

Just was looking at more pics of the cabins. I wonder if there would be room on the floor in the middle of the bunks just to make a double layer of the mattresses side by side for a more comfy sleeping situation. Hmmm.
800Stealth
11-14-2008, 06:28 PM
I don't think there are showers or bathrooms in those cabins. I asked my pops today about borrowing his motorhome, unfortunately I'll get edited if I repeat his answer and the way he put it. LOL. I was checking around online for prices of motorhome rentals, holy smokes $300+ per day before mileage. Looks like it's a motel for me. Is there gonna be a prize for longest distance traveled? I think I'm in the lead with 1087 miles, it's crazy what we're willing to do for a wheeler ride and a few beers....LOL
Rebel64
11-14-2008, 07:01 PM
Yeah there is. Here's the info from the website:
Cabins (10)
Sleeps 4, bedding not provided, $100 per night
Weekly Cabin rate (minimum of 7 days) $630 + tax (excludes Holidays or Events)
Cabins are furnished with 2 bunk beds, kitchenette and bathroom with shower. Fire rings are also provided.
________________
Looks like a corner type shower from the few pics they have up also.
Too bad your pop nixed the idea of borrowing his ride...that would've been sweet.
And yeah you got a long haul for sure!

$100 a night seems a little steep, I dunno. I'll have to see how the job holds out, but i think I'm still looking into a motel in town.
Rebel64
11-14-2008, 07:20 PM
I haven't looked at the prices of the hotel rooms per night around there, but in my mind the $100 doesn't seem bad at all, especially for staying on site, hanging out next to the fire in the evenings and having fun with you goofballs, no driving after partying, etc etc etc...
800Stealth
11-14-2008, 07:21 PM
I see, I guess I read it to fast, I thought it said bathroom and shower facilities on site. I stayed at a place in Vermont like that, An 800 foot sprint from the cabin through the campground to the community bathroom at 3:00 in the morning really sucks.
Rebel64
11-14-2008, 07:26 PM
LMAO!! Especially with your boxer shorts falling down during that sprint!!! :fear:
But yeah there's the part that you read:
There are 2 bathhouses inside the park, one on the RV campsite and the other on the primitive campsite.
800Stealth
11-14-2008, 07:31 PM
LMAO, what boxer shorts? just a pair of cupped hands and a smile....:bolt:
I think $100 a night is about average, that's what I pay when I go fishing in the white mountains.
Rebel64
11-14-2008, 07:41 PM

Are we gonna hear about the Rubberdown Streakers Club next summer after this ride??
Rubberdown
11-14-2008, 08:17 PM
LOL, I'll have not part of this streaking you speak of!!!
Hey Chad, I wonder if we could put all the youngins on cots or something in the cabin, then me, mel, you and mo could all take a bunk???
We may also tent it, its not that bad, we do it every summer a couple of times, our tent is big enough to fit us, the cloths, and a four wheeler LOL.
Rebel64

Yeah, $100 isn't bad considering it does sleep 4 that'd be 25 a piece if 4 threw in.... or 2 and 2 be 50 a piece...
I'm with ya' mark on the haging around next to fire and all that.... And DEFINANTLY the no driving after partying.....

Well I love you all like bruddas and sistas, but from the looks of the sizes of the cabins, there aint room enough for more than 2 people! Hell our tent is bigger than that, but to have a bathroom and shower right there in it would be very handy for a change.

I'd hate a DWI even worse. Guess I need to look into a spare set of tires. I sold the XTR's a while back cause I got tired of looking at them. I'm definetely gonna try to make this one. Might try to bring a freind or two. That would be one lonely ass drive by myself and I'm pretty sure Tara won't go. Unless you Northside foos are gonna come scoop me up, lol.
Rebel64
11-14-2008, 09:03 PM
Yeah Ryan, a DWI would suck big time, and I sure would hate to see any of us get nabbed like that after all this planning for such a good time.
Maybe by then you could talk Tara into it, or go with the other plan of getting some other guys to make the run with you. Either way I sure hope you can make it.
OR...Ed can get his chopper license and buy a Chinook so he can fly down and pick you TX guys up!

Actually, thats a real good idea. The kids would have a hoot, and if there is any mud to be found, I'm gonna need a shower, or a hose handy.
Hey Paulie, we could pick up a bottle of Everclear on the way through....that would ensure I wouldn't be driving anywhere!! LOL

I actually have found some reasonable ones for around a grand a week. I'll be coming with atleast 1 other buddy maybe more, so after the split it won't be so bad. I definately want to be on site, like everyone is saying a dwi on the ride back to a motel 1000 miles from home would ruin the trip fo sho.

Do a google image search for "blue cane corso", we put a deposit on one of our pups sisters, our cane corso is 2 years old now, but the breader of her just had another littler with the same pair, so we picked out a blue male last week. Were gonna pick him up just after Christmas. Our old dog is 14 now and she cant keep up with all the play time her new companion can dish out so we needed to find her an "equal" to scrap it out with in the yard LOL, not the 100 and something year old dog.

Just thought of an idea...how about a section on the forum just to talk and ask questions about the ride?? Kind of like High Lifter and the Mud Nationals section.
Aint no one gonna get in that house!! Congrats guys!
OH, BTW......After Xmas.....I'm off dog crap duty!!

Are the guys with big, mud tires gonna downsize or what. Would I be the only "DA" to run some outlaws there, or should I "borrow" the neighbors 27" 589s. It doesnt bother me to run the outlaws on trails.

I've been wondering the same thing about what to do with my bike.
Hell in a perfect world I'd get another bike just FOR a casual trail ride like this. I'd put my "old" 27" bi/tris on mine for this trip, but those are going on Desi's bike whenever I get it.

no, not really at all...
The bighorns are more of hard pack/trail tire... They do good in about everything other than thick muck mud... they dont clean well, though they dig good though, if that makes since.. but they really arent a mud tire by any means

www.windrockatv.com and then hit photos on the left side menu. It'll take you to a forum page and just pick a thread and check out the photos. It's trails, mud, hill climbs, i think there is a few river crossings. Mostly trails though. Trust me they have their trails level as far as difficulty goes and from what i've been told you won't not have a good time.

Doesnt take but a month maybe Riv, and if you happen to have travel plans and you can produce a travel itinerary when you go to get it, they can get it within a few days for you for a slighly larger fee, I got mine for Amsterdam in about 5 days.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you all know that I talked to Chuck from the Coal Creek park in Tenn. He was just inquiring as to how many people would be coming and that maybe we could get a discount. He said that by the time we have our ride that a company called Eagle Rider will be there renting ATVs, motorcycles, sea doos and pontoon boats. So there will be more things to do other than riding for 5 days if you want to. He also said that there are 5 good lakes around for fishing and swimming. To ride from one end of the park to the other he said with some stops it should take us between 10-12 hours. There are 10 cabins, lots of campsites and spots for the RVs. I told him that I would get back to him in the spring when we have a better idea as to how many people will be coming and he will let me know about a discount for us. I hope that you guys are all excited about this because we are. It will be nice to put a face to all of our Southern friends. I will let you all know more when I talk to Chuck again. The idea about the flag is great. Rebel I will be expecting some of that crawfish that you showed us back in August. I haven't forgotten. LOL

Outlaws at Windrock = Disaster!!!
The trails there are not gonna be fun and frankly a little bit dangerous on paddle tires. Ruts and roots and rocks all lead to a one way ride down the side of the mountain after getting yanked off the trail. I really do not recommend them. We rode Royal Blue last year, which is another WMA about an hour away by highway, and I would much rather have the worst stock tires around than paddle tires on those mountain trails.
That is my home stomping grounds and with just my luck our family reunion is the weekend before the planned ride, so I'll be there a week ahead of everyone. SHUCKS!!!
Also not sure you want to get caught riding on a WMA with alchohol either. Could be a bad day, as those Game Wardens have little to no sense of humor!!
Just a few on my own personal thought I choose to share.

Agreed, we're not going there to race, we're going to have a laid back group ride or atleast that's what I'm after. I gotta believe that you guy's rollin 29.5s allready know that they don't do well rippin trails at 60+ mph, so keep it a little mellow and you'll be fine. As far as the lift go's I don't see any problems. My bike has over 17" of ground clearence and I ride rooted and rutted mountain trails with a bunch of Honda 450 MX quads most of the time.

I'm guessin those big tires are slowing your speedo way down and your going faster than that, but whatever just cruise slow it's all good. Well I don't think the laws are rough or bumpy even at slow speeds. I guess something must be out of alignment and only notice it at faster speeds maybe.

Not really sure, and never gave it much thought. It happened the first time this summer down on that Vet ride when we had to take an asphalt road for a while to get to another area and I was trying to keep up with everybody else.
Hey Reb... On my outty, it has started to get a lil wobbly at higher speeds also... It did NOT do it before Or after the lift... It happened when I put the HD springs on the front of the quad..... Noticed it the first ride after installing them. Do you have different or stiffer springs on yours???? Noted my tires are not as big as yours but, it nonetheless does it and its not from the lift.. I have thought about changing my springs back, but I do not like the sag that comes wityh the crappy stock springs on the front...

Reb, how is your toe OUT? On the Polaris if you don't have 1/8" toe OUT, you'll get that condition. I have mine toed IN, but I have to just to be able to steer this monster. Besides, I never go over 20 MPH unless I'm in a pit.

So far no problems hard pack, snow, mud, water or even logs. I'm looking forward to some rock climbing. As far as speeds go their great from slow speeds to high. I had an issue on that last monroe ride on the crushed lime stone. The only way to describe it was like hydroplaning on sand.

It's not the springs, I've got Ranger springs and I can still get 65+ mph out of mine without any wobbles. Like Mudduck said, check the toe, also did you have your rims and tires balanced when you got them? A few onces of weight can make a big difference at speed.
Rebel64
11-22-2008, 08:41 AM
No never did have them balanced after I took the bi/tris off and put the laws on.
torkmonster
11-22-2008, 08:48 AM
It may be the toe, as since it sagged so bad before and with the new springs it stands up even a little taller... But.. I knopw it NEVER did it before the springs.... not a wobble one with either the 589's or the Bighorns.. It wobbles and will try to pull you all over the road now, since the install of the HD springs........
I DO think the toe is off, but only like I said the springs jacked it up further than the with just the lift......
Atleast on mine.

I got ALOT of stuff to do on that 04.5 700 popo... Bearings, Tie rod ends, A gooooood CARB cleaning, Prolly new exhaust, AND can, unless I can get someone to weld the can where it slips on to the pipe.... That thin piece has came off that holds the gasket in...... And many many more things.. a few U-joints to be replaced on it.... Prolly time to change oil again...
Much to do this winter! To get everything ready for this summer and hopefully the RDC ride..
Rebel64

Wheel bearings are still ok, hardly any wobble at all when I wiggle the tires around when it's jacked up. Guess I'll start shopping for the tierod ends since I know they're due for a change.
And sorry for gettin totally off topic here!
Meanwhile, I grabbed these 2 comments off of HL from a question I asked there about the place:
1. Definitely take your laws off. In August you will do well to find a damp spot much less mud holes. Keep in mind that Windrock is rocky mountainous trails. There are some mud holes but few and far between. MST's or Bighorns are a lot more at home on the 'rock than Outlaws.
2. yeah take the laws off...mudlites mst bighorns or there nock off that our crew likes dirtamers...something of that nautre not outlaws lol....they'd proly get u around but you want somethign with lots of tire touchin the ground lol....and if it says extreme its pretty hairy lol i got thru everything on the 300 cept the mud..if i had 4x4 id done fine...buddy with a 450 foreman on vamps didnt do so good (lack of experience) but we all made it good..yall check out the pics in the sig photobucket...i recomend makin a trip there to anyone it was a blast..not alota mud..but some good pits ont he sides of trails tho....

It's a visit!! Your not moving their. Because it's mountainous should I go back to stock suspension and change my clutch for 100% rock climbing or just change my clutching so I can lower my RPM's for better fuel economy since the park doesn't offer fuel???
PEOPLE RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG!
Besides the money you might spend on tires and redoing your bike for a 5 day ride could be better spent on hotels, food, beer, a good helmet etc.

Ed you have great tires for the terrain there, along with having no lift. You're set up perfect for it, but I'm not it's sounding like.
I don't mind a scoot through the woods on the trails, but I do like finding water and/or mud to play in also...especially to cool the joints down.

I agree with ya camo.... Only thing I'm gonna do is prolly run the BigHorns, might not even do that....
Lift is staying on and my clutch will be the same as it is fixing to be once I get the Dalton kit in..... Now, whether I flip over backwards or not from having a cklutch kit and going up a hill, I know how to lean WAAAAYYYY over the front of the quad..... If it goes over then, well, I guess it was just MEANT to go over!!! LOL
Ride wat'cha got in my opinion....
Or find a place better suited or has more variety of riding...?????.....
But from what I have heard and some of what I read, Windrock is an awesome place to ride... I dont think anyone will NOT have fun, no matter HOW the quad is set-up....

That means I have to spend almost every penny paying off current loans, getting the Sportsman fixed and parked, and buying a few things for the apt.. Usually i'd be all over this ride because my grandparents are only about an hour or so from windrock, but since this is happening I won't have a dime to make it. You must be lucky. With the 3 inch lift, I did a fast 11 miles with water holes in the middle. I blew 1 front and had a rear barf out all of its grease. I could still touch the fronts, it was just the angle that did them in. The rears were so hot, I bet you could still get my baked on DNA off them from where I touched them.
Maybe its just an aftermarket axle thing, IDK, but they enjoy the water more than the roads.

You got the factory axles dude, thats why, I put on 2000 miles with my factory axles and the lift kit and had NO problems, then I went to heavy duty axles and they seem to be made to a tighter tolerance so they seem to really heat up until they are broken in really good and loosened up like a factory axle.

anyways....we will all be easing along in a slow line, if somebody needs help or is a little uneasy....then the line stops till they are past the obstacle..
all people & machines go home in one piece.
although on some of the trails, laws won't be the best tire of choice. may not even be able to make it on some of them....just depends, rock climbing & mud holes are two totally different boogers....
I just talked to a buddy that rides there some & the park has a little bit of everything.....just depends on how extreme you want to get as to what trail to take......
I think it will be fun regardless.....lets ride & enjoy!

That's good info, after reading that axles were overheating I went out yesterday and pounded the hell out my bike just to see if it happened. I pulled over right after pinning the speedo on a long fire road and the cups were no warmer than the gear cases or the hubs.
