I know you can burn up a belt, but I didn't think a quad had enough power to break one. I was rolling at 5-10 mph I crushed the throttle the front end came up for about 30 feet then there was a loud bang the front end dropped and the engine hit the rev limiter, I thought for sure I broke the tranny or the rear, I coasted to the side of the trail and started looking for fluid pouring out and I saw pieces of belt all over the right side of the frame and cords hanging out of the belt exhaust. I've never had the belt slip before and the sides of the bigger pieces I could look at aren't burnt or glazed. The motor mounts are all tight. Has this happened to any one else or did I just get a bad belt? I hope this qualifies for Polaris's elusive "lifetime" belt warrenty, I guessing it won't cover for a new belt housing though.

I've had one throw chunks off of it before and it sounded like a damn helicopter inside my clutch case, but never like that. I'm pretty sure that will qualify for a free belt, but I would definatly go after the dealer to go after Polaris for a new cover and have the clutch inspected, mine needed to be rebuilt when my belt started to fall apart. Lucky for me, I was still within my 6 months warranty and it was covered.

double check the cover before you put it back together. theres a good chance it might have some small holes in it.

and also. if you do it yourself, be sure to buy another gasket to go around the housing or turn that one around. mines always leaked if i didnt replace it or spin it around.

Min e did the same thing, only I was headed across a snow covered field in high range, the engine has more power than the belt has strength. They did wty mine but the lifetime belt replacement thing is bs. Mine had a brokem motor mount.

No small holes just one big one. Thanks for the tip anyway. I stopped by the dealer today with just the belt pieces and the junk cover and they said they need to see the quad to cover the warrenty, I said it's out in the woods and I need a belt to get it out of the woods and on the truck, They said "that sucks" After I flared up on the service manager they gave me a used one to get it over there. I'll drop it off in the morning.

Every belt I've ever wrecked blew up like this. In my experience, they tend to explode more than just come apart. It usually comes from a belt being stressed from burning it, or something. But yeah, this is normal.

You may wanna look into them warranting the cover. When I whent through my first belt, it cut a hole in the top of the cover. My dealer sent me a new belt and cover under warranty.........

Not only do we have the same bike they break the same way too, just got back from the dealer and it does have a bad mount. I'm glad I got the extended warrenty, it just paid for itself. They're going to replace all the mounts, rebuild the clutch, put on a new belt and belt cover, they also found the sway bar bushings were beat so they'll take care of those too.
