Can't find any deals up here, so looks like i'm heading south. Any hassles that i should know about importing a quad? I took a quick look on a few government sites but can't find much. I assume it is the same as a vehicle? A buddy recently bought a sled and needed an inspection for it?? Anything like that for quads?

what were you looking at getting?
I looked at the RZR over the river and it was 10,600 plus freight and setup for another $600, also a fee for exporting it or importing it, I dont know what it was for exactly, but the guy said around $150 give or take, then at around 19% exchange, it puts that machine at $13506.50 Canadian, then the taxes at the border, PST and GST so add 13% so we are now at $15,000+
peak performance would have me in the same machine for $14400 out the door here in Canada, but I got a little bit better of a deal somewhere else.

make sure you have all the paper with matching vin numbers or you will be leaving the quad at the border till you get it. i believe you have to get it inspected or else you can't get it insured.

Looking for an 800, and there is alot more used ones over there then up here. Up here even with 2,000 miles on them they want $7500 and i can pick up the same thing for like $5000 there. Also a certain one listed on this forum i am really looking at. I assume it is no different than when i bring other vehicles across, guess i'll call the dmv and see what they say.

I'm right here...........been on vacation and at my cottage so not much surfing the net being done these days.
Not worth it for the exchange rate unless you get a great deal.
First, RIV is $206 to get a VIN registered here. No warranty on any machine brought in from another country and you'll pay the RIV, GST and $75 for a Form 1 at the border. Need to have the title at the border (unless crossing at a multi area border) for 3 days in advance of bringing in the machine. You will need a recall letter from the Mfg - not dealer, stating no recalls, etc. and once you have that you can bring it with the bill of sale and other docs to customs. Once here, you won't get an ownership from Ontario until you comply with DOT/MOT showing speedo in kph. Take the machine to Canadian Tire who will do an inspection and they have no clue what to look for so I advise you to fill out the form (you'll get it from RIV) and then take the machine there for the free service. Then you mail everything to RIV and you'll get an authorization letter to take to the license office to get your registration/ownership and then pay PST on the converted value.
You'll want to save over $1000 to make it worth it, and then with the exchange rate and RIV costs with no warranty, you have to assess if it is a viable choice. I think you should be able to make a good deal here since most stores are hurting a bit right now.
Used - that's a different story but same process as above.
