Hey
I got the HC installed on my 06 500 EFI with 27" swamp fox's. Right now i have the white primary spring in it and stock secondary. No weights in the shoes. and its only geting to 5150-5200rpm's at 40-45mph. It was at 5000rpm with the 2.5g in the heel. Will that secondary spring make that extra rpm up?:frusty:
Thanks
Brent

That is strange. First off, NO, the secondary spring will not make the rpm's go up, at least not the secondary spring that came with the kit. I run the HC in both my 500's, although I don't run the white primary spring anymore, I just run the stock blue/green Polaris spring but I'm running 28" Outlaws on both our bikes and I can run over 50mph on either bike. Granted I have the 800 clutch in my bike with some tweaking done to it so MY bike turns about 6100-6300 rpm's.

Its now at 5550 rpm's 40-45mph with the maroon primary.

Guess im gues going to have to deal with low rpm's to get the engagment i need. Have the oragne spring in and it brings the rpm's up were i need them but its engaging at 2500 WAY to high for what i do.:noidea:

Just under 2000 rpms. I tried the orange spring, but it was a little too aggressive for me. It was up around 2500 rpms.

How's this for a mix-match, I have the EPI/HL clutch kit in mine, but using the orange spring in the primary. I like it! Took some getting used to at first because of the delay making me think the belt was slipping, but when it goes, it goes! :)
I'm just about ready to buy the HC kit for my 500.Time to look up BigDog800EFI and see if he has any.

Best investment money can buy.
I checked with BigDog800EFI today and he has one for my machine and I cant wait to get it. I need to start reading the "HC clutch kit section" over at the atvquadsquad forum and start learning about setups and adjustments on the HC kit.

thats a great place to learn it at... I get most of it, but some just goes right over my head!!!
I have to read all that stuff real slow and sometimes 4 & 5 times.I dont mind though I'm learning alot ahead of time.

Yeah the more that you read it the more you understand it.. Atleast me anyway... I did see a I wanna say "DIAGRAM" some damn where but cant seem to find it anywhere... It wasn't necisarily a HC but it was just the workings of a CVT period and I found it very useful in understanding HOW IT WORKS..
I'll keep lookin for it..
Ther is also one somewhere on quadsquad that shows the HILLIARD gearcase that was a very good read IMO.

Turk go with the recommended weights and the secondary spring that they send. But get the EPI maroon spring. I have gone with both the white and the maroon and I'm likeing the maroon now. Theres a few more RPM's out of the EPI spring. The white one is a good one to start with if your impatient like me, it's fine.

Ed do you think I'll be ok with running the stock secondary spring, white primary spring, and recommened weights?

The secondary spring that they send is almost the same as a stocker. I know Lee uses the stock spring and his is fine. I did it mostly because if they sent it why not use it. I'm not sure about the 800's though. There are some plastic buttons inside the secondary that are essentially some sort of stoppers or something and my fear is and was with mine that with more torque coming from the primary as the belt grips harder and faster that it may wear stock parts out quicker so I put the HC secondary spring in. As for spring I'll bet you will be fine with the white spring. The weights are the only thing that after a few rides you may want to see if you need more. Especially since your not interested in top speed.

Thanks,it seems the more I read about the more I hear it's best to go with the epi maroon spring so i'll go ahead and order one ahead.Where do i find one?

K thanks for the answer.
Maybe I should ask someone with an 800 also? Might be hard to compare your and Lees 500 to mine even though he's running 29fives.
Either way for now I'll try it out first. (if the friggin weather ever cooperates).
Thanks good idea.I'll check with him.

Amen to that I'm getting tired of the snow finally. As for your secondary just do what I did and drop it off at the dealer and have them do it. They didn't even charge me. My concern fro you is you have almost double the power that I or Lee do so if it were me I would definetly put the seconday HC spring in. It's called an ounce of prevention.

Well damn, we already got the stock spring installed in the secondary yesterday. Oh well, it didn't take a lot of budging, so I might just take it out and get the silver HC in, especially since I don't have the clutch case cover back on yet either.

I can ask my dad what setup he has in his 800... I do know he doesn't have the EPI MAROON less he changed it..

They were supposed to be sending some NEW weights to him not sure if he got those yet or not either... I think with the NEW 800's they already have most of what the HC weights will give you anyways or something like that I was reading over on QS
Well all I have to do is sit tight until the HC arrives. In the mean time i've been reading everything I can on all the diffrent set-up combo's,etc, etc over at atv quadsquad in the HeelClicker forum, lots of good information there.I'm looking foward to my next project/install and can hardly wait to get started.

But with a HC dialed in I hope to take it up a level.I put this Little HO on it's assend and face the sky all stock, guess I need wheelie bars because now I want to go for distance.

I can't wait to try mine out.
I did take out the stock secondary and put in the silver HC spring the other evening.
Man, last nite I even had a dream about goin deep with the nose in the air at Ruffcorns...I can't wait until the 22nd!!
Oops sorry, little off topic there.
Let me ask this now...am I wasting my time with an epi maroon spring or is it good to have it in the "extra springs' box??
torkmonster
03-07-2008, 06:31 PM
Yep it looks like you are turk.. Just that it will pop up ALOT easier and with a little more conrol in my opinion with the kit on...
That has been my experience anyway... The lift DID seem to help alot also.. Guess mabye cause the rear springs were in a more pressed state and not giving as much???

The great thing about the Heelclicker is a very easy system to play with. Try the white one then try the maroon one. Like I said it's an easy system to tune, once the weights are in you don't need to pull the clutch out to swap springs.

So did you get the kit and installed???
Vern(BigDog800EFI) got the check on Friday...damn snail mail...and is mailing the HC kit out to me on Monday. My guess is i'll have by the end of next week.
Speaking of the end of next week,on saturday i'm going to look at an older used sportsman for the wife,it's 2001 SP500HO Duck addition, well cared for and all stock.
