Looks like I have a broke ring or landing because I lost compression on one cylinder. I hydrolocked my motor the other day with fuel and think thats when the ring or landing broke. Does anyone know if you can pull the motor on the 03 model without taking the front plastic off?

That's a bummer!!! It seems like you spend more time working on that thing than riding it. I guess that's just the nature of the beast. My truck is the same way, wrench on it all week just to use it for a couple of hours on Satuday night and break something else. I twisted 3 driveshafts in as many weeks this summer. Good luck gettin her up and running again.
Its going to be alot easier to pull the front plastic. Then again you dont have to pull the engine for top end work, I'd do a leak down test and try to figure out where you are losing compression though, I was replacing head gaskets on the twins frequently at one point in time.

Yes, you definetly have to remove the front plastic, you have to lift the fuel tank up just a little to get the motor out, floor boards have to go also, you don't need to remove the pod, the front plastics will go over that, they just need to be turned 90 degreez one way. Tough job though, good luck and get yourself some bandaids.

Well I decided to leave the motor in. I have had the head off 2 times before once when I put my Hot cam in and then again when I installed new lifters. Both times I pulled the plastic and tank. I just hated to have to pull the plastic again and the snorkles. But I did find my problem and it was just as a suspected I broke 2 landings on the piston.

Good luck with it buddy, sounds like you know what the hell you are doing so it should be no problem if you have the hours to get it done in time.
BTW, what would cause this problem, too much power or torque or what?

Yeah I hydrolocked the motor with fuel. I drill out the seat in the carb to let fuel flow in faster (emptying the float bowl on a long run) and it must have had a burr on it because the needle didn't seal and it just leak fuel all night into my motor. I have the drain on the bottom of the carb sealed off because boost will come out of it so the fuel had to go some where.

Yeah I finally got the parts Friday and raced it Saturday. I ended up getting beat on my third race by a 700 prairie. He got me off the line by about 3-4 bikes and I almost had him caught at the finish line (225' track). I had a really bad bog on take off. If I had the bog fixed I could have won no problem. Oh and I didn't get to use my nitrous ethier.
