View Full Version : A good investment??
I'd like to purchase the Quadovator "Temp. Gauge Kit" and the "Fan on/off light switch".I think these are 2 great investments for a utility quad.I'm looking for opinions or comments on these 2 products if anyone here has them installed.I recall 1 or 2 forum members here have 1 or both of these MODS...how do you like them??
I'm also eyeing the Qaudovator "Reverse Override Lock" as a future purchase as well.

i have the fan switch and it is great. easy to install. it lights up when the fan is one. i also found out that is your fan is wrecked it will light up just slightly. i wouldn't buy the temp guage from them. it is too much. just go to an automotive store and buy a guage.
i also have the reverse lock and it is the best. also easy to install. no more worrying about pushing the button. i got it maining because if i was shaking the bike in reverse with my finger on the button i was always hitting the kill switch with my hand. i think sinse i don't have to hold the button i have better control of the bike.

Their temp gauge kit is way overpriced. It is nothing but an Auto-Gage made by Auto-Meter and can be bought at just about any auto parts store for a fraction of what he sells it for. You can also buy ANY automotive temp gauge and install it on your bike, there is nothing special about it. I bought one made by Equus, cost me less than $30.00 bucks and is 1 1/2" in size. Here is a pic, I also have one installed on the wife's bike too.

The switch on the right side above the temp gauge is the fan override switch. The yellow light will light up when the fan comes on. If you ever want or need your fan to constantly run then you just flip that switch on and the fan will run all the time. I've never needed it, especially with the radiator relocated but it is a cheap piece of mind.
The switch on the left UPPER side is the reverse lockout switch. Just flip it to "ON" and you don't have to push the yellow button for reverse.
Both those switches are worth the cost from them but their temp gauge is way too exspensive.

I was thinking of doing the temp gauge myself but how do you wire it up??
Qaudavator's instructions talk about exchanging the stock thermostat cover for a modified one to mount the sending unit to and running a wire from the sending unit to the guage. How would I go about doing themostat cover modification myself?? The other 2 wires are for ignition swithched power and the other for ground.
I'm def. going to get the "fan on/off switch" and the "reverse override switch" but if I can do my own temp gauge I'll do just that.

Whatever temp guage kit you buy will come with the instructions. I drilled and tapped my own t/stat housing to do the wife's bike, I didn't use his exchange process mainly because I didn't buy the gauge from him plus it's just way too easy to drill and tap a hole myself. It's easy to wire up. If you get an electrical gauge then you'll have one wire going to the temp sending unit, one hot wire and one ground wire, and you "may" have one wire for the light on the gauge but that's it. The hardest part of the whole gauge installation thing was cutting out the little hole for the gauge in the light pod, the rest is a cake walk.
The wiring part I very much understand.I take it that the drilling and tapping a hole is so you can mount the sending unit to the thermostat housing?? It sounds pretty easy to me Tbut the part that i've never done before and am worried i'll mess the the thermostat up.

Seems like it would be.

thats the same with me. i have no tools to do the drill and tap and the cheapest kit i can find is like 50 bucks.
The Qaudovator kit is still cheaper that the HL temp gauge kit and Qaudovator does refund you $20.00 with the exchange program.I think the HL gauge is $89.00 plus shipping.Qaudovator is $95.00 with shipping and then -$20.00 refund with the exchange so it's gonna run about $65.00 overall.

I dont own a tap kit either.I guess if I buy a tap kit and my own guage kit it's gonna run about the same price overall exept that I would have a tap kit for future use and not have to buy one again.
Well i'm going to go ahead and get the "fan on/off switch" and the "reverse override switch" and do some thinking about the "temp gauge kit" before I decide on buying it from Qaudovator or braving it by doing it myself and buying a tap kit,i'm just worried about messing up the thermostat cover when it's time to drill into it.

looks like a wise mod. what is the normal temp range 200?

You can go to Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Napa, etc. and buy a single tap, some come as kits with the drill bit too but if not it will tell you on the back of the package what size drill bit to use. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure the temp sender size is a 1/4" PIPE thread which would take a 7/16" drill bit.

Turk, if ya lived closer I'd drill and tap the cover for ya. there really aint nothing to it, if ya can drill a straight hole. I drilled and tapped a water jacket in my evinrude outboard last year. Easy.

If your not comfortable drilling and tapping the housing yourself, just take the therostat housing to a local machine shop, Probably won't cost much at all, a machinest can do this task in a minute or two.
