jonathon lilgrasshopper ds and payton kept talkin about rubberdown so I figured I would join. sounds and looks like a nice place. I ride a 2007 honda rincon. modded a lil nothing major. stealth snorkel 25" mudwolfs and 2" tip is the biggest things. future mods when money and time become available detroit gearless locker front and rear bumpers and maybe the BRGR. I ride a bunch of different types of terrain. mostly trails but like doing rock crawling and muddin. Not really a hill kinda guy at all. fortunately I have been videoing alot of riding so you all can see what kinda areas that I ride. to view my videos go to http://www.bigbenshaus.com/videos.htm click on the words that describe the video and windows media player should open it up. among atv riding I also like to hunt fish and camp. during the summer I am normally at the races watchin dirt track racing or at my creek lot downin beer. I have only been riding since june of last year. but try to do something new each time I get out. questions or comments let me know. takereasy ben smyser

Thanks for the welcome fellas. not sure if the ride is gonna happen this weekend now. the forcast went from a thundershower in the afternoon to thundershowers all day saturday with gusty wind. :/ not really good riding weather. rain would help out on this trail system because of the black coal dust that the trail has on it. but hail and thunderstorms that are big boomers are not my cup of tea.

I am not familiar with the old gravity railroad. us pa boys are gonna have to hook up for a ride sometime. I know where there are some pretty wicked mud holes at ssrt. one I still have not been able to make it through yet. extremely thick sticky mud

Ben,
So where would be the closetst place to camp down that way to be able to hit the SSRT? I've got to hit that tunnel and viaduct!!! I'm guessing most of the trail is old rail bed, correct.

actually at the trailhead you can camp. there is not water or electric but there are bathrooms there. and yes most of trail is flat railbed.

I agree we should hook up on one of these weekends for a ride. The niagra falls boys are not that far away either I am guessing maybe 3 - 4 hours most from me and Iam about 2 or so from you.

I also forgot to add there are grocery stores, gas, and bars within a few minutes drive. there is actually a market you can ride too on the trail to get food and there is a bar off trail you can ride too that has good food also. no drinkin and drivin though.

Sounds liek it would be a fun place to ride. The tunnel and viaduct is actually on my Quad "to-do" list now. camping at the trail head would probably work. Although, having electric hook up would be better. Might get some buddies to look at doing a show up Friday evening, ride Saturday and head home sunday deal. Are the trails dusty when it's dry? I take it it's 2-way trails.

yeah it is dusty. coal dust too. and yes the trails are two way. generally though most everyone is pretty decent about letting you pass them if they want to go at a slower pace and also most of the time whoever see the other first is who gets off the side a little bit first. common courtousy is what most of the general rules are. I have not ran into a rude rider up there yet. if you guys wanna come down for their chicken dinner ride it is aug 1st I will more then likely be there camping with a atv club that rides that area a lot. if you guys want to come down for that you are more then welcome. the trails are pretty packed for that weekend but maybe we can do it later into summer when there is no one there. less traffic on the trails that way. you fellas let me know then and we can setup a date and go from there. I am getting to know the trails alot better now.

Yea after watching those vids I would to like to check that out. If you all settle on a date either post the ride up in the USA section of the forum or drop me a line. I am heading up to Tug hill NY this weekend coming for the 22- 23 if anyones around. But after that I am game for anything and can pull most trips off.
