how to plug a voltage regulator??

Hi, i just bought a new voltage regulator for a 1975 bombardier elan snowmobile and i don't know how yo plug it, their is 2 wire, one yellow and one black, i know that the yellow one goes on the front light wire but i don't know if the black one is a ground wire or the output one ( if the yellow is the input).

I will check with a buddy of mine that works on the older Bomb's. My first sled was a 1972 Bombardier 350 olympic. 333cc's of raw single cylinder horsepower. For real, this thing was an 18 horsepower monster. And to think, they went to twins and triples.
