Hey y'all!

I'm Jon from Georgia.

I usually ride a '07 KQ 700 but recently picked up a '99 Sportsman 500 that I'm slowly fixing up "for my girlfriend". I'm sure I'll be asking all kinds of stupid questions about it here shortly

That's kind of funny because she helped pick them out when I ordered them. She did get to ride it once though.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

The Sportsman is in fairly good shape, and runs pretty good now that I cleaned the carb really good. I traded for it, so it's not like i have very much cash in it at all at this point.

Just need to get new tires, figure out why the electrical system doesn't recharge the battery, re-assemble the recoil starter that I took apart and then broke, fix the speedo, and then get new struts/shocks and coils all the way around.

(Probably not in that specific order, however)

The only stupid question is one you don't ask.

The charging system problem is probably the voltage regulator. Had one go out on my 03. they are kinda rare to find used, but super expensive to buy new. It should be located under the front "hood" that's in the middle of the front fender, under the rack. It will be bolted to the frame support.

Welcome to RDC. Enjoy your stay.
