If it runs fine on reserve...I'd bet it was something with the petcock if it was a carbed model.
Does the EFI model even have a petcock?

On the EFI models...how do you switch between "On" and "Reserve"?

Where is it located at?
The 2005 has it on the side of the tank with a round hole molded in the plastic.
Location is really irrelevant.I'd start by checking that switch.

Are you sure it's a 08 with efi cause I found no selector on mine been going thru old pics...not that efi doesn't have one because our 08 Rancher has fuel turn off selector don't even remember one on my old Rincon.

The EFI Rincon don't need to be switched between on and reserve, it switche by itself when the gas tank start to flash on the pod.

If he's switching between On and reserve...it's probably a 2003-2005 model.
That being said...I'd bet on a problem having to do with the petcock or the lines attached to it.
Maybe the primary fuel line from the tank to the "on" spot of the petcock is stopped up or kinked.
Has he had the bike apart to do anything lately...as maybe a snorkel or something...and could have kinked the fuel line when putting it back together?

My dad have the same problem with is old 350 but it's because he bent the gaz line inside the tank the last time he pulled it out. But if your buddy never removed the tank thee is probably something stocked it the line.

Then I stick to my suggestion to check the petcock and/or the line coming from the tank for an obstruction.

Yea, sounds like trash in it somewhere. Isnt there a filter in the petcock?

Mine is a 07 and no petcock.
EFI doesn't have this.
Did he get it all wet before the prob?
