Hey guys next spring i am thinking about trading in the 800 for a rzr. I have driven them before and really like them and they seem to do good on our trails. I'm just not sure if i would rather have a rzr or a sportsman. I know i would really enjoy the comfort of the rzr. Just looking for opinions from guys that have switched from one to the other and own both. what do you like about driving one or the other?

Best of both worlds....I know I'd love a RZR-S someday.

Honestly dude, I love the RZR with the right setup, if you arent lifted and have a GOOD set of tires, you will hate it on rutted and mud hole filled trails, BUT if you lift it with a simple 2" RDC lift and run something like the 28" back we run, this thing is damn near unstoppable, hell, it will climb almost anything, it hugs the ground when climbing so good that you dont even worry about it when doing technical hills and stuff. I love it man, thats all I can say, just get a couple extra inches and good tires, at least a 28" tire and spacers to really get wider traction.

the RZR is awesome dude, but then again so is the 850. Both are 100 times better with good tires and a small lift, and I'm not just saying that, I hated the RZR first time we took it out stock, it got hung up all over the friggin place, but put some 28" backs on it with our little 2" lift kit and the thing goes damn near anywhere now with little to no effort at all.
It IS a tough call, I love both, I guess I'm lucky, I can ride both, but if I had to choose, I dont think I could, both are just so much fun.....
Sorry, guess I really aint much help here dude LOL.

haha no problem. how are the rzr's for the trails? 95% of our riding is done on trails in the forest. nothing real tight. rhinos seam to make it and the real tight spots always have go arounds. is it a work out riding them on trails?

trails are NO PROBLEM, we had to do a 3 point turn maybe twice on a couple rides in tight tight spots to make the turn, but thats about it. Because it is longer and a little wider than the ATV's, it eats up the rutted holes and makes em look like nothing :D

I must say, after following the rzr in TN and some trails up north i dont think you will have any problems with any trails. With the backs on that thing, it is bloody awesome. Thinking of getting the wife one for her and the kid, but i want this one...

I parted my sportsman 800 out to get a RZR S. I've rode them a few times and they are awesome. No where near the effort to ride as a sportsman. Just like Paul said, get a lift and some 28 or better tires and your good to go.

As much as I love my Sportsman it will be getting replaced by a RZR. I do alot of fast trail riding and the Sportsman just beats me up to much. A friend of mine has a little Kawi Mule and even though it's pretty low and slow it's still more enjoyable for buzzing through the trails, I certainly wouldn't drop the little mule in a mud hole like the Sportsman but a SxS just seems like a nicer way to blast my way through the woods.

so as far as mud these things are pretty descent? as far as i can tell cause of the width and wheel base they stay out of the ruts and stuff. plus they have the same amount of clearance as quad. not trying to sound like i am old and out of shape but the rzr is a much more comfortable ride and enjoyable on longer trips plus you can still have fun in it. thats kinda whats leaning me toward one. i would definately be putting a lift on to get that little big extra and tires for sure. no way i would stick with them stockers. i like the fact that you can carry a lot of stuff with you without having to cram it on the racks.
i have also been caught out in rain storms while riding and you have to ride in the rain for like 2 hours before getting back. same with snow storms. nice feature would be the roof and windshield.

Only regret I have about mine was selling it. They are awesome machines, mine had a few problems but nothing the ext warranty didnt take care of and is still taking care of the new owner. I see a rzr-s or something similar in my future, sxs's are where it is at. I have only seen a few that regreted selling the atv for a sxs. I highly recommend the rd lift, highlifter springs (or similiar), snorkeling, and a set of 28s right out of the box. Then your wallet will get smaller as you pour money into the accessories for it. Couldnt pass the chance at posting a pic of it.

I am seroiusly trying to hold out and wait for Polaris to drop an 850 in the RZR S before I get one (hopefully with powersteering). I did not like the SP 800 (that I had for a short time) mostly because of the sound of the engine truely annoyed me to my wits end!
The 850 just sounds sexy stock! I will hate to let my 850 XP go but I sure have the hankering for a SXS.
