Going to upgrade to the Amsteel blue from Paul, just wondering if I need to change the drum as well as the fairlead?

your drum should be fine, just feel it really well, if you feel any bur's or sharp edges, try to smooth them out with a file or sand paper.

Drum is ok, just the fairlead so the rope doesn't get chewed up on those rollers.

You'll never go back to wire after using the rope!

I used my rope about 12 times today and would never go back to a cable.

If the drum is scuffed up from the cable smooth it out with a file or sandpaper like Paul said then you can wrap the drum with a layer of duct tape this will cover any scratches or nicks that you missed.

I switched from the cable a couple of months ago. Haven't needed to use the rope yet, but I won't miss the cut fingers chewed up gloves I received from that cable. It's also a nuisance to wind back up compared to the rope.
I changed to a Hawse Fairlead and added a winch protector as well.
