Ok,I'm about to finally get an ATV (narrowed down to 3 different ones) and none of them have a winch.

To be perfectly honest...I can't afford to put a Warn on it.

I've been looking at a few different ones and would be interested in the opinions of everyone here.

Viper Elite EX3000

Viper Max MX 3000

Promark Offroad (Gorilla) 3000 lb XTR

Pros/cons of each?
Thanks.

I got the viper max 3000 in the box for my 850, just havent had time to install it yet. I got their 4500 on the RZR and so far so good, BUT I ride so well it only ever got used once so far LOL.

If you do decide on a viper, let me know, I may be able to save you a few bucks, we are talking now about being a supplier of theirs on a smaller scale.

Viper Elite EX3000

I have had that one on my bike for the last year. I have used it around 50 times so far.

I have used it for pulling quads out. Only once used it to pull me out! It has also been hooked to two different trucks to get them out of the mud. I did not use the winch to pull it in but used it as a tow rope and pulled them out in 4x4. That 850 XP is a heavy boy and pulls hard.

Well in all the times I have used it I can say this. It has not let me down yet.

Con's to a high priced winch like WARN: The main "BOX" is big and bulky. It stays powered even when the bike is off. There is an aftermarket fix to it but I have not done it yet. Just remember that it stays hot with the key off and not to let the kids get on and start pressing buttons. The Nuts and some other hardware are not stainless. You may want to trash the nuts that come with it and get some stainless or you may have some corrosion issues.

Also, FYI on this, go ahead and turn the winch to auto spoil and run the line all the way out. I am talking about the stock line. I learned the hard way they it is not tied off at the other end and will freely come off the reel. It is a lot easier to tie it off at the end in your yard than it is when your trying to pull your buddy out of the mud!

Well Jonathan...I may have to get it to pull myself out because with the ATV I'm considering...you Polaris guys and Honda guys might just leave me stuck.lol.(that is...IF...I get stuck, lol)

(btw...anyone still "vent" anymore?)

I would avoid Gorilla winches, I had nothing but trouble from my 3000#. It's on it's second solenoid pack and the second drum is now broken again. It has failed 3 of the 5 times I've needed it to get out of a hole. I will say the warrenty has taken care of it all but that doesn't get me out of the swamp when I need it to.

Yep, we still use vent but its at text message request most of the time. We will use it more to chat when it gets close to ride season again.

What are you looking at? I might have a CanAm one day to try but other than that I would not touch a Cat or Kawi. Thats just me...

I thought you were dead set on the 850 XP 2Up in Blue??? Don't give up on what you really want!

Yeah...I've pretty much ruled that one out after some research.

Viper winch guys...
What reasons are there for me to choose the Elite over the Max?
I know that the elite has the wireless remote...but that's not enough to justify it for me.

Found a pretty good deal on a 2008 Grizzly 700.I've driven just about everything out there and the Grizzly impressed me quite a bit.The $11k price tag on the 850 Touring is a deal breaker for me right now.
Not to mention my wife has showed a huge interest in a Rhino for herself so the 2-up isn't as much of a necessity.
I found a good deal on an 850XP that already has the Catvos lift on it but it's a little more than I'm wanting to spend,a little farther than I'm wanting to drive to get one,and it's not an eps model(and it's red, lol. So is the grizzly, but you don't see nearly as many red Grizzly's as you do 850XP's))

Whats wrong with a RED XP buddy. What an ass haha. Is the Grizz PS? If so, go for it and have fun. The more I have thought about it I dought I will ever buy a brand new quad again. I see stuff all the time thats less than a year old with under 300 miles on them and are $4,000 less than new. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

If you have a few minutes...pop into Vent and I'll show it to you
