What's everyone using. What can they do? Can you use your GPS to keep track of a trip then load the info to to your computure at home and view the path you took? I really know nothing about them. I am not so interested in the ability to plot a path ahead of time but to be able to see where I went. And not only see it on the handheld unit but also be able to transfer that info to a map on my laptop. How about being able to record a path and then go back and follow the same path a second time at a later date. How good are they with tree cover?

my 60csx does all that and I think if I had the topo software ikt would be even better. I use it to plot all of my trail rides when I'm in a new place, and you can load it to the computer and see it on a larger screen. As for back tracking, sure, you just follow the line you created when you originally plotted the course. The 60csx also works great in the car, it can find address's, restaurants, gas stations, etc etc.

The trail rides in new places is what I would be most interested in using it for. Just so I can see where I was and in the event of an emergency, I could find my own way out.

I have the 60csx too, and it'll do that for you Phil.
I used to be able to synch up with Google Earth and it would copy tracks and waypoints over, but the last time I tried that it said I needed the 'pro' account there or something like that.
It's a very handy unit though, and rugged (weatherproof).

Waterproof is my only other demand. It's gona be on the bars of the bike and we don't exactly ride down the road.

That's where mine is always at, and what I got it for.

I've got the 60cx as well. Excellent unit. Got the RAM mount and it's right on my handlebars. Google earth is a good resource, I think someone else mentioned you need the pro account which I believe is still only 20 bucks for a year.

Another good program if you want to play with tracks and overlays on maps is Ozzie explorer.

Go with the 60, you won't be disappointed. They're also the most popular so it's easy to find others online that you can get tracks from for different areas.

I was checking them out on EBAY. Best price by far that I could find for any of them. They were about $100 less on ebay than any stor I look at.

So have we convinced you to go with the 60?

I'd recommend the 76csx, it is a waterproof model that floats...I like www.gpscity.ca

Cool site. Only problem for me would be the shipping to the states. I will look into the 76 as the waterproof deal is going to be the best for how we ride.

I have a Garmin E-trex Legend. It will upload routes and waypoints to Topo or what ever program you are using, it's waterproof, pulls great reception through clouds and tree cover and is not much bigger than a cell phone. I think it was around $140 bucks at Walmart a couple years ago.

I browsed it a little bit, and my first thoughts were of how good the internal antenna is on the 76 compared to the external one on the 60.

I don't think it would really matter, mine has an internal antena and I can't recall ever being without a signal, even riding in the thick woods and mountains.
