Okay, black lead on neg battery teminal and red lead on the red solinoid terminal is about 15 volts, same is I run it to the other end of that wire on the starter, but when I go to oms, with the black on neg bat. and the red on a starter bolt I get 0.3 oms so if my dad and I understand that correcty (he was nice enough to come over and have a look at it with my anf the instructions I was given here) that means the starter is shot or needs a rebuild right????
Let me know if that all sounds about right:doh:

If you hit the starter lead and battery and turn the key over and only get .3 ohms should be solinoid.....Try to jump the solinoid and see if the starter works then....If so then you will know for sure solinoid

Take an old screwdriver and put it across the two big termianls on the soleniod. If the starter works, you need a soleniod. If it doesn't work, you need a starter.
Don't use your new shiny Snap-On screwdriver or you'll burn it a bit, but then it'll lok used :)

okay, if memory serves me correct, isnt there 3 terminal on the solinoid or was it just 2 of them.
Also, I put the key to the on position, but if I'm jumping it, I dont turn the key like I would to start it with the key right? I just torn it to the on position and leave it alone and try the jumper right???
LOL, man I feel dumb right now

If you have 15 volts at the positive starter terminal (where the fat red wire bolts to the starter) and a good ground (0.3 ohms is good) then the starter needs to be rebuilt. Good work hunting it down Paul. :thumb:

You probably need a set of brushes. If you buy them from Polaris they are pretty expensive. Mine also needed the front bearing cause it was shot. It think for the brushes and the bearing I was almost $200. There has got to be a cheaper way for sure.

I think Royal Distributing has the rebiuld kits for around $49.95 Canadian, it says that the kit includes all necessary bushings, bearings, brushes and o-rings for OEM starters.
And I tried the solinoid jumper trick with a screwdriver, it didnt budge the starter.

It happened to a couple of guys that one of the brushes in the starter would not make a good contact to the armature and that would prevent the starter from turning. Open it up and have a look first before ordering the rebuild kit.
