View Full Version : 3" Lift Install

I'm in the process of installing a RD 3" lift on my 06 Sportsman 700. I've got one side on the front done, but now it seems really hard to spin the hub with the tire off and the bike sitting off of the groud on jack stands. It will spin but it takes a good bit of force. With the tire on obviously its much easier, but still a little tight. I can't remember how hard it was to spin the hub and the other side is already tore down. Can someone tell me how tight it should be, I just don't want something to be in a bind and end up breaking. Thanks for any help.

it will be hard because of the cv joints binding when the bike is off the ground. mine does it too with the 2" lift. just because the cv are at full angle.

Thanks, so it should be okay when its back on the ground?
Same thing when I was putting on my 2" lift.Once all was back together and off the jack stands all was ok.

Are you running stock front axles or are you running Gorilla's?
The tightness is becasue it is at full extension as stated, once you set her down it should be much better, but I would seriously consider getting some gorilla's if you dont already have them.

I have one Gorilla and one stocker. I'll run it like this till something breaks. I'm actually in the process of changing a boot on the Gorilla.

Well I know a guy that can probably beat just about anyone on gorilla axle prices, you just let me know when you need one and I'll patch you through to him ;)

Here is a link to Turner Cycles. I think their axles are very similar to Gorillas. http://www.turnercycles.com/

Rebel, how have they held up so far, good reviews from many people on them?

So far so good with no complaints at all. The last few times I've been out I've taken it somewhat easy on the throttle, especially in the deep situations where axle snapping could occur.
I haven't heard one single complaint about his product from people that I know that have them on. He can be a bit slow sometimes sending something out, but only because he has a smaller operation and just about every order taken is then personally custom made by him and his small staff. Daniel & Tonya are great people to work with, and if there is ever a need to discuss anything on the phone with them (esp Dan) be ready for a long convo...he loves to get into detail and won't rush to end the call.
Vern, what are you looking to get from him? Just axles or something else like a lift?

i missed this thread somehow, but you might want to check to be sure the reason its hard to turn is because the boots are rubbing on the strut housing. that would cause it to be really hard to turn. and it will show up pretty quickly if you start ripping boots.

Would this pic help for those to see just how much grinding is needed for them to clear?

Jesus man, did you have to grind all the way around that entire hole????
Will I need to grind that much for the gorilla's I got?

Turk, I used an angle grinder...3" disk I believe.
Paul, I think the Gorilla boots are the same size as mine from Turner, so my best guess would be yes. I've never seen one in real life though, so don't take my word for it.

Paul, there is a picture in the box.
We are setting one of our race machines up with a SLC lift with Turner axles. Gorillas prices are going through the roof. 14% price increase. Retail on a polaris front 395.95. OUCH. Try to see if turner is going to be more reasonable.

I surely will Paul, I'm one proud customer of Rubberdown Customs and Fox Valley Atv. Now if I could just get some scare stickers for the bike, hint hint.

Looks sweet ass brother.
One question for you though, WHY didnt you come see me for a rope and aluminum fairlead, a BAD ASS fairlead at that???? ;)
06Grizzwald
12-19-2007, 09:48 AM
Sorry about that, I was able to get the rope and fairlead for $50 shipped from a guy. I knew you had the BAD ASS fairleads, but I wasn't aware that you sold the synthetic ropes. Believe me when this set-up wears out I'm all over that GOT MUD fairlead.
