Ok the wifey has bought a set of 589's for me for Christmas..LOL she slipped up..But I dont want to use the stock steel ones.(want to keep the stock tires and rims for running around the yard) If anyone knows of or has a set of vision/itpSS-106 rims with the proper offset in the front for a good price please let me know.

Thx.. Atomic

Highlifter has some plain steel rims, but they are the aftermarket offset that you need. They don't come with center caps, but they will work for your tires. I believe they said 10 bucks a piece plus shipping.

Those are small bell rims. They do not work on New sportsmans. They hit the brake caliper. Just trust me on that one. I ordered ten sets and they will only work on the older sportsmans with the 10" rear wheels.

Your very welcome.Sometime in the not far future i'll be looking for some 28" tires when I decide to ditch my 26's.Whenever that may be but i'll know where to look first.

will the vision rims bolt right on without having to change lugs? if not, is changing lugs a pain in the ass?

I really dont know for that application depends on the type of wheel.I know when I bought my ITP Type 5 wheels I had to use a different lug nut,the one's with the tapered ends for the new wheels but they came with the wheels.

ya you will have to get longer studs. just go to your dealer and ask for the longer 800 studs. very easy to switch out. takes about 5 mins a hub.

I was wondering if he meant studs instead of lugs.

Sorry I meant studs..

If your machine came withn aluminum wheels you will not. If it came with steel wheels. It is recomended. There are only about 6-8 threads holding the wheel on. Some people think that is enough, I don't. Studs are 1$ each. Some people only replace half of the studs with the longer ones

I learn something everyday. I guess I need to replace some of my studs with longer ones then. Mine came with steel wheels in stock form and I put SS106's on it Sunday. I wonder if I'll be alright if I just keep a good check on the lug nuts like they are??

Probably not a good idea man. I was going to sell my original aluminum wheels to a person that has the steel wheels, and they would have had to get longer studs, and I think the offset is even bigger on your 106's. Better safe than sorry.

I ran SS 106's on my old 05 400 popo and had stock studs which were plenty long enough and had no problems at all. Oh ya and I cleared 10" bugs with no problem at all.

Perhaps i should change my studs as well. My bike came with steel rims too. I have had my ITP T7's on for 2 years with no problems but its better safe than sorry.

Its possible some of the other machines have the longer studs. All of the machine that I have seen with steel wheels come with the short studs. Count how many full turns you get when installing the lug nuts. Some brands of wheel centers are thinner than other brands. Vision are about the thickest.

You don't need as much as may seam. If it's a 10 mm stud then you need 10 mm of thead engagment. look at a basic 3/8" nut and bolt, you'll see the nut is only 3/8" thick but it will take over 1000 pounds of force to pull the nut over the threads without turning it, the bolt will most likely stretch and fail first. Don't get me wrong I would rather see as much engagment as possible, but from a machining stand point the depth of engagment only needs to match the diameter of the stud or bolt.

the 04 bikes might have longer studs. i know in 05 with the new body style you got shorter studs with steel wheels and longer ones with aluminum wheels.

I've got an 05...For the price, I'll buy some "peace of mind" ...check your pm's Dog. my only question now...Is the offset on the Vision 160's different than stock. Looking on their site they sell 7" wide fronts and 8" wide rears. My biggest worry is if the fronts are going to rub with a 9" wide 589?

Atomic, The vision 160's have different offset than stock. I know....i have two set's of them and i might sell one set of them....lol. The front's will not rub with 9" wide on the front. I have 28x10 swamplites on mine with no rubbing at all.

Ok now yall got me curious as to what I have on my bike in regards to stud length so i'm going to have to go out and have a look.

My SS ITP's fit fine with the short wheel studs, plenty of thread left. The Vision wheels are pretty think and I think you will have to change them out if you are using Vision wheels but with ITP wheels you should be fine with either stud.

The lug holes are set pretty deep down on my IPT type 5's.My bike did come with steel wheels and i'm pretty sure I have the shorter studs.it seems like my lug nuts have plenty of thread to tighten up on though. So far in almost 2 years I've never had a problem with any lugs coming loose.

Atomic, if you are still needing rims, here is one hell of a steal on a set of Vision rims, center caps and lug nuts included.

Will i need to change studs on an 02 400.....if i go with the Vision 160's?
& yes, it came with steels, 10" but it has 12" steels on it now so i could run the rawhide's

Would really like to have a set of ITP 5's, 6's, or 7's but for the $$, Vision will do. $200.00 a set shipped.

It would be a good idea to change them.
