View Full Version : A few observations from my first mud ride

1. All in all, the RZR is a beast. It even made the bighorns look like a decent mud tire. Damn thing rides like a dream.

2. The belt snorkel needs some work. Got some water in the belt box and wasn't in very deep water at all.

3. Not very happy that the belt cover has no drain plug. Can't figure out the logic behind that. Pretty sure I'm gonna need a new belt at some point soon. Had to ride it back a pretty good ways to drain some water out. Slipping like crazy the whole way. Now it has a whining sound coming from the belt housing.

4. I need some ground clearance!! 29.5's and maybe a RD lift coming soon!

5 One last thing, it is an enormous pain in the rear to clean that thing. I think part of it was that I stayed away from the water fro the most part till I can extend and seal up the snorkels. Anyway, $10 in pressure washing at the car wash and another hour or more at the house got it pretty clean.

I know what you're saying about cleaning. At least the front end and bed tilt on my Rhino. That makes things much easier.
As for the belt...got mine wet too.Hopefully your Rzr belt isn't anywhere near as expensive as a Rhino belt.
My main observation of the Rhino is...I think my rear lift is installed wrong...and is actually giving me a .5" drop...no lift at all.
I can hardly wait until I can get this thing snorkeled and stick a set of 28" Silverbacks under it so i can see what it will really do.
We still need to get together for a ride...and remember...I still want those Bighorns.

And no pictures?

I brought the camera but forgot the batteries. I'm terrible about remembering that stuff. Terrible about remembering to take pics when I remember everything else. I'll get some next time out.

I know it sounds crazy but next time you get water in the belt, stick it in park or neutral, smash the gas to the floor and hold it for 4-5 seconds. You won't blow the motor because the rev limiter will stop it. The high RPM's will cause the clutch to spin fast and it will blow all the water out. Trust me.

Can Am's don't have a drain on the belt cover and doing what I said will get ALL the water out super quick.

They are definitely a pain to clean, theres under the seats, the dry storage (LOL, ya right) box under the seat, behind the seats is a cover in front of the clutch cover that comes out so you can clean that way, then you can reach up under the floor from behind the seats and pull out gobs of mud and it never seems to end LOL.

There is a pretty good snorkel write up on another forum, you can do it for around $60 and a couple hours work, we did ours as soon as we got it home.

Heres the snork info for you....

Hey Ryan....Don't you think Paul needs to send us a Rzr lift and a Rhino lift for R&D testing and advertising purposes?lol

That's exactly what I did assuming the same. It certainly helped but it still slipped for quite a while. It tightened and dried up after a while and i rode for a couple more hours just fine. Still doesn't seem to have the snap in low and it has a whining sound. I'm gonna pull it apart and check the belt, one way bearing, etc. Might sawp it our for a Sportsman cover so i have the drain plug, or make my own w/ a valve stem.

Thanks for the info Paul. I think the snorkel is pretty well done, just needs to be sealed up and extended a bit.

And yeah, I kept finding different crevices to store mud in that thing.

What's in the air (or water) in the Houston area that makes you boys forget details like takin pics???

Ryan, sounds like a perfect opportunity to mount up a flojet pump for the belt box.

Nope, waiting for my ship to come in or my money tree to bloom, whichever comes first. It's gonna be 2 more weeks.

Good deal...I don't have the cash for the Bighorns right now anyway...especially since we're leaving for Vegas tomorrow.

I decided to take the plastic trunk off because i wasn't happy with the way it was snorkeled. What a freakin chore!! Must be like 50 screw and bolts to get that dang thing off. I was so wore out when I finished getting it off that I decided to call it a day and resnorkel and seal it up tomorrow. I did install a drain plug in the belt housing cover. I'll takes some pics tomorrow.
