Okay, I see everyone mods their machines BUT without power mods what is the biggest tire I should go with on my 800 that won't risk axle or trans/diff problems. And yes I do intend to install a clutch kit and 2" lift. I'm seriously considering 28's or bigger.

I was looking at the 30" mud lites but I'm thinking they'll be too heavy.

you will have no problems with 30" mudlights and no clutch kit

No problems is a bold statement. Your right thumb is what will cause problems. You can break axles with stock tire if you put them in the wrong spot.

Let me clarify how my atv gets used. Primarily trail riding w/ some asphalt and open fields thrown in. Don't generally go into the deep mud cause it got stuck at busco beach real bad and I almost got stuck under it trying to winch it out. Deep water not too often but I have no problems with playing submarine. But my favorite is high speed trails.

I'll put it to you this way.If I had 800cc the sky would be the limit on tire size. You could always make clutch additions accordinly.

I broke an axle just backing down the driveway in the winter. All i did was turn the bars & crunch! by by CV. I was going slow to.
I guess its all about the position.

Well if your into speed my opinion is don't go with anything bigger than 28's and I would rethink the lift as well. The higher you go the more top heavy your gonna get.

I put 27's on mine and you can feel the difference. Mine is not the same as stock when ripping. I am going to put a Heel Clicker kit in it as well as replace the belt. Hopefully I can tune it back to where it really feels good. I do ride mainly fast trail, I would say 80% of the time. I had it lifted with a RD rear with EPI springs in the front but have gone back to stock. I personally like the stock ride better for my application and I rarely need the extra 2" of ground clearance. Also to compare, my buddies stock '07 X2 beat my '06 sportsman with a lift, 27"s and stock clutch by a bike length in a 500ft race. This site - http://atvquadsquad.com has good info for Heel Clicker clutches and tuning advice. IMHO....

Everyone has had some good input here and I guess I have some serious thinking to do. I don't want to lose performance as far as acceleration and top speed go (I'm still stinging from the spankin I took at Busco Beach by an outy 800 ). But I do want to "enhance" the bikes ground clearance and offroad ability (bigger tires tend to roll over obstacles easier then smaller ones) plus I'll admit it... there's the cool factor. The asphalt has been rough on my PXT's and I want something that will stand up to that abuse too.

Yep you gotta factor in where you're going to ride most of the time.
My Outlaws do ride rough at very slow speeds on hardpack, but I really don't have any complaints. I don't ride asphalt at all, so that's not a factor to me.
You just might need 2 sets of tires...one for the fast riding on hard surfaces, and another for the occasional slow deep stuff.

Good point Rebel. I didn't consider that but it could solve alot of issues aside from the money issue.

Even though I have an 800 popo, you will be hard pressed to beat an outy 800.

Cool doesn't always translate into performance!!

That's so true! Even the sport ATV's got spanked by it. They are fast off the line which is where he beat everyone. I can still taste the dust.

Yup, we call that "Purpose Tires" around here LOL, I ride with a guy that runs I think its bighorns for most stuff, but when its gonna be a sloppin good time, he puts on the zilla's.

Hey PoBoy800

I see your thinking about an EFI controller. I might be interested in selling my Power Commander PCIII controller. I do not have any skills when it comes to adjusting fuel curves. Way outa my league!!! Let me know.

Hey popotoys

I have looked at a couple of different units such as Dobeck, Power Commander, etc. But I haven't decided which 1 serve's my purpose best. Need to do more research. What you askin for it and why don't you want it other then programming it? Can't you just download maps for it from their website?

choPppps

For the Power Commander there is only a base map and a zero map available for download from the web. I cannot find anyone else that has maps... even have posted for this. Have used it for 6 months or so and it is still on the bike and I did notice an improvement through the mid range when I plugged it in. I am just more worried about screwing up my engine by messing with it more than anything. I think $150 + $10 for shipping would be fine. I have everything that came with it.

I'm giving it serious consideration but I'll have to think on it some. I'm kinda surprised about the lack of available maps for it. They've been around forever.
