Hey all, I'm getting ready to install a 2" LIFT ON MY 02 700, I have the install instructions and have a pretty good idea on how much to grind off the frt hubstrut, I remember seeing a picture somewhere, where someone had marked the hubstrut with a sharpie black marker to indicate how much needed to be taken off, now that I would like to look at that pic again I can't seem to find it, anyone know where to find it or have one of these pics, tks

Bigdogs right, i took about an 1/8" more than that pic shows. i can run my finger between the boot and strut with the strut fully extended.

You're welcome. Glad we can help.
Just slide your axle into the strut, and see if you have clearance. I had to put mine on and take it off a few times to get it ground down just right.

That pic up above was fine for stock axles, plenty of room in between the boot and the strut, I ran them like that with the 3" lift for over a year with no problems. They are ground down alot more now that I added Gorilla axles to the front.

Well I bit my tongue and went ahead and started the grinding, got one done, hope I didn't take to much off, here's some pic,s.
Question: I will be installing the 1.5" RD kit on the rear, my original problem was with sagging springs but then decided I also needed the lift, I was originally going to do the hockey puck thing to stiffen up the springs, can I still do that after I install the RD kit or will this increase my lift beyond the 1.5" tolerance, I figure I am only compensating for weak spring with the hockey puck spacer but wanted to make sure, tks again

The grinding should be fine.
Where are you wanting to putt he pucks, on the front along with my lift kit, or in the rear?
The front lift alone should be fine without adding more spring spacer, as well as the rear, I suggest you try it with just the lift and then if its still not how you want it, maybe space the rear too but I'm pretty sure you will be happy with just the rear kit by itself.

Yeah mine is great with just the front and rear lift by themselves. So far i've had no problems at all and am very happy with it.

Hi Turk, I guess my reason for asking is that I usually carry a pretty heavy load on the back end, I have an extended rear rack that holds about 10 gals of extra fuel and all the equipment and stuff required to be out for a week long adventure, camping gear, food, "cola's", etc..., the front is also pretty loaded but seems to carry the load ok, the back however doesn't, and although I'm increasing the ground clearance I really haven't increased my load carrying, so this is why I'm asking about the hockey pucks and if it will help load wise.
tks

Trust me on this, just try it with only the lift kit, for some reason, it does stiffen the rear end a fair bit, it will probably be more than good enough for you. I used my ATV this summer to transfer some cement bags from one side of my yard to the other where the fence was being built and let me tell you, I think they were 80 pound bags and with 4 to 6 bags on the back rack, it handled the weight just fine if memory serves me correctly.....

I ride with my wife on the back & the lift really helped with the rear end sag. The two of us weight about 425+ & I'm on the lowest pre-load as well. The rear drops only 2.25" with both of us on the bike.

ya something with the lift makes the rear end stiffer. maybe the different shock angle. my bike has the lift and is on the second preload. at 180 pounds when i stand on the hitch it mays like 1/2 an inch. your bike is different. usually the front sags. make sure you put the preloads all the way up.
Mine is set on the lowest pre load also on the rear with the lift.

mine are set to the lowest, stiff, but still flex's well (better than it did stock)

Mark, that's one sexy pic of those Turner axles :thumb:
But day-um that is a lot of relief grinding!
When I replaced my front outer with a slightly larger one from John at www.americancvstore.com
The thicker boots and bandit style clamps required some grinding to clear....and I don't even have a lift---YET!

Well thanks George!
Hey what exactly is a bandit style clamp? I've never heard that term before. What kind do I have on mine?

The band style have a thing on each side that you bend in then bend the rest of the clamp part back over it you know what i mean?? I'm partial to the pinch style clamps more... They take up a lot less space...

Ok Aaron, thanks.
I have the bands that come with the factory boot kit.I just got two more extra boot kits to have as spares fome babbits.com when I ordered my new polaris belt.I have a couple of the other band types but couldnt figure out to secure them properly.

The pinch ones you just put them on and at first with your hand you push the band closed as best you can with hand and there is little notch holes around most of the band, you secure the notch in one of the holes then get some pliers and squeeze it closed even more the pop down into another tighter notch then it has a "square" looking place on it and you take the pliers and squeeze it as much as possible and your done... I take a small hammer and hit the square you just squeezed down a little bit at the end...
Was just out in the garage looikng at those style bands. Thanks I think I get it now with those style bands.I've been lucky with the bands that come with the stock cv boot kit I figured out how to close them with a pair of plies because I dont own the band clamp tool for the factory bands yet.I learned that from someone over at the QS forum and who posts here sometimes, gotta love the QS forum.
Oh it was here in my cv boot thread.
Thanks to whoever bumped it for me.
