DOes anyone own a press?
I don't know what the actual name is, but I am not referring to a drill press.
THis is a press that is used to press bearings and other things like that.
If you have one what kind do you have?
Do you have a hydrolic one, or one that you lower by spinning the lever?
thanks

Often called an arbor press, or if it's a hydraulic then it's a hydraulic press. The screw ones are a screw press.
I don't recommend the screw presses, they aren't very good. The small hydaulic presses which basically hae a little jack in them will do you quite good, and they aren't very expensive. For something like that I might recommend something like harbor freight. simple things ae pretty good there.

Thanks for the info TIm,
I will look into some small hydrolic presses then.
Thanks

At my work, we have both a large hydraulic press and a smaller bearing press that just uses a long lever to press things in. I only use the smaller bearing press, but its all set up perfectly square and I never need 5 tons of power to press in spacer studs or wheel bearings.

oops, I forgot about the lever presses. I have used these a lot for pressing bearings into bearing carriers and struts.

I have about a 20 ton in the shop here which does anything ATV related like crankshaft repair right down to pushing bearings. We had a couple presses where I used to work and one was a 20 some ton arbor press and the table had different shape cut outs to press on which was on a turret, what a sweetie for wheel studs and the like, but for the coin get a good sized hydraulic.
