It would just depress me that I don't go enough... I'm down to four days a week if I'm lucky lately. Besides it's boat show season for me and that means lots of drinking and eating bad.

i'm on a bulking cycle so 4 days is all i go now. when bulking you need alot more rest so its only a 4 day rotuine. what kinda stuff you do?

B Man

well anyway i made this thread cuase i need some motivation, not feeling like i really wanna do this anymore, my lifts keep going up its just i don't look any bigger. it'll take me years and years to get "big" at this rate. any tips paul?

How many reps do you average? What kind of proteins are you using and how much? How many meals per day do you eat?

B Man

for every muscle i do 3 excerises, 3 sets each, 12, 10 and 8 for reps.

i take ON's 100% gold standard, eat a few scoops a day.

i try eat alot of small meals but can't becuase of my school/work scehdule. 5 meals a day average.

I'm back from Cuba, I'm in for a discussion on training, I need the motivation too and this always help ;)

B Man, how often do you change things up, like the days you do each muscle group, the exersices you do, the different approach to the days exersices, meaning adding in drop sets, super sets, pyramid sets, negatives, etc etc, stuff like that every once in a while to mix up the muscles memory?

B Man
01-20-2008, 12:32 PM
paul, i some times do drop sets and almost never do any of the other stuff you mentioned.

i've heard the super set lots, but what does it mean?

oh and yesterday i bught more ON's whey and a product called muscle milk. just throwing that out there.

B Man

ever do power cleans paul?

i don't, but i'm wondering cuase i know of a high school that has this "1000 pound club" competition, you have to total 1000 pounds in power clean, bench, squat and trap bar dead lift. then you have to do 15 pull ups, lol. i totaled like 900 without ever actually trying to do cleans.

No buddy, I dont have anyone at my gym that has a clue on any of the oly lifting techniches like cleans and power cleans and snatches or any of that stuff. I wish I did though, its supposed to be great for shoulder and overall development if I remember correctly.

I actually just watched it being done on youtube and it would greatly help with axle press events in my strongman since the hardest part for me is getting anything over 200 pounds on a stiff 2" bar up to the pressing position.

Heres the vid I just watched...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TlbDQUWs0s

Super sets would be something like this, for a back day, you could start by doing a set of lat pull downs on the machine, do your full 1st set of these, get up, go to the hammer strength rowing machine or something else for back, maybe barbell rows and bang out a 1st set on those, then hit a 3rd back exersice for its 1st set, all the while, you go from station to station with no rest until the 3rd station is complete, then get a rest and do it all over again for a second full triple set, its fast, gets the heart rate up there, the body warm real fast and a great pump. Usually if I do a superset, I hit 3 stations and I go through it 2 or 3 times, then maybe only 1 or 2 more exersices in a regular set after that.

NEGATIVES are great but you need a good strong spotter as he will be doing most of the lifting. Best example for this would be bench press, pick a weight that you know if heavy enough that if you were by yourself you might only get 3 reps. Then unrack the bar and lower it to the chest very controled and slowly, then with your spotters help and mostly his strength, get it back up to the top. The idea or principal for this is to hit the muscle hard in the negative range of motion, not the positive or pressing range of motion, thats what the spotter is supposed to do, take away as much of that weight on the press for you as he possibly can, then repeat, very slow and controlled down, and his help up etc etc for a full set of 8 to 12 reps. You could also do this for pull downs and have the spotter stand behind you to help get the bar pulled down, then its all you letting it back up slow and controlled. Same with barbell or preacher curls.

Pyramid sets are exactly how they sound, lets say you normally use 90 for cable pressdowns for your triceps. Start your first set with 80, do your reps, however many you normally do, then go to 90 for the next set, then 100 for the last set and if you want 110 for a 4th set. With this though, you can have that rest between sets as its not a supperset or drop set where you have to go go go.

And one of my all time favorits for a crazy ass arm pump are the famous 21's
Most people that have heard of or do 21's do them with a cambered curling bar, its 21 reps in a row non stop, but you start at the bottom like normal and you only curl it to the mid way point so your forearms would be parralel to the floor. You do that 7 times, then the 8th rep goes all the way to the top and when that rep starts to come down, it only comes down the the mid point so again, the forearms are parralel with the floor and back up it goes. You do that for 7 reps and after the 14th total rep in the exersice, now you do 7 final reps in a full range of motion, all the way down and all the way up.

21's for Triceps are one of my favorite things to do in the gym simply because nothing ever gives any of my muscles a harder or bigger pump. Its the exact same thing at the curls but I do it with a cable pressdown machine. 7 reps in the bottom half of the range of motion, right into 7 in the top jalf and finish it with 7 more full top to bottom reps.

Remeber though, with 21's, its 21 continous reps with no breaks until you hit all 21 reps. I sometimes make it 15's and use a little more weight so I know that on the 13 to 15 rep, I am at full capacity and am barely able to finish the set. I like to do the 21's the same way, but the last full reps, I need a spotter or some body english to get them out.

Are you a big kid Ruby? I got my nephew into the gym when he was around 12-1/2 years old, he just turned 16 and hes around 200 lbs and kinda short so he looks like a little tank LOL. Its probably the best thing I could have ever done for him, he loves it and trains more than I do now and I've been at it since late 1997

i had to go back down. cuz of the doc.. i messed my knee up and lower back so i cant do as much as i did before i got hurt. im still pushin around 700-750club. i lost bout 100-150 lbs..

B Man
01-21-2008, 07:38 PM
lol theres no such thing as a 700 pound club, or a 750 pound club. its the one, the only 1000 pound club. the real 1000 pound club is bench, deads and squat all total 1000 pounds. if you can do that your a f*cking beast no doubt.

paul, thanks for the difinitions there. my gym is cloed this week for some bull shit reason so next week i'll give them a go.

ruby, if your a lean 230, which i highly doubt you are, then you'd be a tank. if your 230 and don't have much muscle.....eek. i was the same and went on a "cutting cycle" for 10 months. i went down to 175 and was still pretty fat but i had nothing to cut down to, no muscle. so i started trying to put on muscle and gained 10 pounds, i was 185 but after being sick for a few days i'm 180. finally i'm starting to look a little bit musclar.

thanks for posting here guys its appreicated.

I always wanted the 4 plate club for bench and I finally got it, I got just over that on bench in my prime LOL (about 3 years ago) and I got just over 5 plates a side for a deadlift, and for squats, not really sure, my knees hurt soo much that I almost never do them, but I'm sure I could still handle 4 plates for a couple reps at least. Does that make me a member of the 1345 club :D

Yes its a myth, the people that are naturally assholes just become bigger assholes because they have this feeling that they are all of a sudden larger and people should get out of there way LOL. In general, when someone freaks out because they are on the "sauce", they are doing it to "act" like they are having a "rage" episode. Most people feel more relaxed, and have a better feeling about themselves when "on". I have done years and years of reading on the subject of "gear" and I know lots of people that have been "on" so I consider myself somewhat more educated than the average Joe, and to be honest, a lot more educated on the subject than most family doctors since they dont spend much time learning the ways of gear in humans for the purpose of building bigger bodies. Most family doctors (mine included) will rip you a new asshole right in their office as soon as you mention steroids to them.

At 17, you have sooooo much free testosterone in your body right now that you would be crazy to even consider it. All you need to grow big is good foods, and lots of it and lots of rest and training. I would never tell someone not to do something as I feel its a persons own choice what they put into their body, provided they arent hurting anyone in the process, but at your age, you shouldn't even consider it for many more years .... if at all.

yes i don't know first hand but every one says at 17 i have more free test than a 30 year old on test. if that makes sense. about the foods, i try but its frickin' hard man, i don't wanna eat to much and gain fat, but at the same time i don't not wanna eat enough and not gain muscle, and its hard to eat 3500 calories from "clean" foods cause they are so bland. after "bulking" for 3 months i'm only up 5 pounds after having a stomach flu(lost so much idk why) went from 175 to 185, now back down to 180 and i don't look much bigger. its discouraging.

"Roids are bad, M'kay!" - Power over "Puff"!

There are a lot of great sites on the net that can give you the in's and out's of BB and strength training. The one that I really like is www.drsquat.com. Dr. Fred Hatfield has plethera of information on this site. He holds the squat record for a 45 yr old man at 1014lbs.

Another great site is www.ironmind.com - great powerlifting products.

Like I said before, this just my opinion and nothing else....
