I noticed today that my left rear CV boot looks like it's twisted. I know it's not "normal" but will it last a while or should I start pricing a replacement?

Can't tell from the pic if its twisted or disformed from heat. If its twisted, loosen one of the clamps and straighten it back out. Had that happen to hampsterranchers bike once, one of the boots just twisted right up on the shaft, i'm guessing something in the mud caught it and twisted it like that. I had a joint go that overheated and made the boot melt and look like that too, in that case start looking for a new axle.

I usually get that from long grass or weeds wrapping around the boot, in my experience it is a 50/50 scenario. You might just be able to turn it back by hand or wrench. You might have to cut the band and untwist it then just replace the band. Or.....yep, new one.

The heat idea had me worried...the last time it was ridden, my wife and I rode double for about 4 hours straight in hilly and rocky terrain.

I took a pair of channel locks and the boot turned really easily. It also slid right back up into the groove in the axle. I wonder now if the band is tight enough...

I would buy one and keep it with you, maybe this one has gotten week and would really put a damper on a weekend trip if it tore off the first nite.. ect..
