Does anybody run a sealant like green slime in their tires? I've heard it's a bad idea. Got a tiny leak in my left rear tire and can't find it. Guess I ought to pull it off and submerge it in water but been too lazy. Any opinions?

Yeah I've used it when I had the bi/tris on to fix a leak around the bead from sand working its way in...problem solved.
Makes for kind of a nasty mess inside the tire if you ever have to pull them off the wheel, but it cleans up ok.
I always have a bottle of it in the rear compartment.

Thanks Reb. I keep 2 flat kits (1 with a small compressor) in the storage compartment but it's hard to plug a leak you can't see. Only loses a pound or 2 every couple of days but thats enough to make it catwalk in a curve when ya pop the front end up in the air.

I have some High Lifter Air Lock sealant just waiting for spring to put it in. According to HL this is the best stuff out there, but then they would say that.

Here is the info on it...
Air lock is economical, easy to install and completely safe. Most people who see it demonstrated, buy it to use on their ATV, trailer tires, dirt bike tires, etc. Although there are competitive products available, none compare to the performance of Air Lock.

they had the specs listed at one time but i cant find them now. I guess i will have to dig my bottle out.

5 Minutes later...

Ok here is what the bottle says.

Instantly & permanently seals a 1/2" holes in the tread & 1/4" in the sidewall
Last as long as the tire does
Prevents flats, slow leaks, bead leaks & pin holes in wheels
Wont rust or corrode wheels
Wont harden or freeze below -33
Biodegradable & water soluble
Non flammable
& that is about is I hope it helps.

You're welcome. I have the plug kit and compressor on board also. Definitely must have items to keep around.
I bet the slime will help that slow leak out. Just use about 1/4 of the bottle and ride it around so it coats.

Thanks for the info to both of you. That air lock sounds like some good sh**. Think I'll have to get a couple bottles. They sell it on the H/L website? Does it say it won't freeze down to minus 33?! Don't think I"ll be ridin in those temps!! Did it on a motorcycle 30 years ago and don't want to do it again!:smow: (Of course it was for a chick)

i use the moto master inflate and seal stuff you get at canadian tire. always carry a can in ym box. had one of my bugs pop off the bead the first time i rode it. that stuff works great. hooked it up and it inflated the tire and popped it right back on the bead. never have had a problem again.

Check this stuff out. I just put some in my Big Horns. this company is about 5 miles from my house. I stopped in to check this stuff out. The owner took me back in the shop and gave me a demonstation like this one.

I even tried it myself. This stuff works!!! No messy slime. It's about as thick as skim milk. He told me that he uses is in his tractor tires and that he also sells it to a few companies in Alaska that use it in thier bush plane tires.

PoBoy, I had a similar thing going on...had a small piece of stone caught in the bead that let silt in and would slowly leak down over a couple days.

Get the bead broke from the rim and clean both the bead and rim real good and re-seat the bead with some bead lube or diluted dish soap.....you will know if you were sucessful when the bead pops on and if there are no bubbles after inflating to 15/20 psi you can then air down to your perferred psi.

I also carry a plug set, air comp and one of those nifty CO2 cartrige/inflators with 10 extra 12 gram cyls....usually takes 2-12 gram shots to get me to 9 psi.
