View Full Version : Reserve your Front Diff Side Cover!

The first run of front diff covers will be for BOTH the electric actuator style cover and the cable style cover.
Price is yet to be determined but keep in mind it is a much more complicated cover to build than our Rear covers. Anyone that knows me knows I wont gouge anyone on pricing, but it has to reflect the work involved to build it.
Value added service may be available on these covers as well (sold with all brand new seals and vent tube installed)

I hope to get these first ones done, and then pull Al's front diff and see if its the exact same except how the cable actuator bracket connects to the diff. The fronts are going to be ready in the next couple weeks.

Looking at Al's on his machine and this new one I bought at the dealer (Al's being cable operated and the new one being used with the electric) everything looks the same, EXCEPT the cable operated cover has what appears to be 2 pins pressed into 2 holes to locate the cable bracket, which again, looking at the blue prints, is held in place with 2 small cir clips, not screws at all like I had originally thought.
If the above is actually the case, then I will see if the rest of the cover is the same, as they take the same seals for the Axle and the same seals for the diff engagment pin, in this case, we will use a tapped hole for the cable guys and add 2 small SHCS for the cable bracket to be bolted to the cover rather than circlipped to the cover.....This would result in the covers being made exactly the same for both options as I would just drill and tap the holes on all of them.

What is it thats the differece Quik, other than the electric ones not using the ears to mount a bracket? They are pretty much the same I think. Need to know the major differences. Like Paulie was saying, the bracket mounting holes aren't used on the electric ones bt they are still on it. They look pretty generic except for the bracket.

03-10-2011, 07:30 PM

now if your doing one off Al's Tcat it should be the same as mine......i've never actually looked at the electric difflock set up at all.....so.....i dont really have muh of a leg to stand on here. just been told they are different is all......

U know on ours where the bracket bolts on? The electric ones have those pieces that stick up, just that they are empty holes.
MUDPROTN
03-11-2011, 01:28 PM
Ok heres what i know. The bolt patterns on the cable operated ones will not bolt up to a bike that has electric diff lock. The bolt patterns are not the same. I know this because i have tried it. Its been so long since i tried the cover on mine that i cannot tell you cosmetically whats different but i do know that they will not swap.

it is, all that will be going through the fitting is air to breath the diff, or oil if it overflows due to heat I would guess.

I like the air line fitting myself. Ive worked on countless H2s, Cadillac, and other air ride vehicles that have these fittings. If they don't leak when pressurized w/ around 80-to whatever psi then water will not get in. And trust me I've worked on some nasty ass hummers and dirt has never affected the seal after the line was installed.
Awesome work Paul.

We went solid in that area for more strength. The way I was looking at it, the large cutouts where for fluid to transfer around to the cover side of the diff, there are still cutouts on the internals of the diff that matched the ones on the stock cover, just not the new cover. There is still a small alignment hole that meets with a small alignment pin inside the diff, and best I can tell, the cable or electric actuator pull the fork towards the cover to pull the locker gear onto the axle for dif lock, there should be a spring inside the diff to allow the ring to slide back away from the axle when diff lock is turned off.

We "might" have 1, there are 2 spoken for that have not been paid for yet, I am trying to reach both guys and see if they still need them, or if they even need them now or if they can wait a few weeks. 1 of them is already needed for another customer, but that still leaves 1 more if you want it.
Also, we have 15 more in the works right now, should be ready in a few weeks, about 8 for the electric and 7 for the cable style.
